GORE / SULLIVAN

Maurice GORE (1843-1907) was born in Pennsylvania according to the US Census records. His parents are unknown. He and a brother were probably orphaned and he was raised in Canada. He married Margaret SULLIVAN in Chicago, IL about 1875. They had four ch: Thomas GORE, Margaret GORE, Sarah GORE, and Gertrude GORE, the first and last being born in Michigan and the middle two were born and died in Cleveland, Ohio. Maurice Gore was associated with Great Lake and St. Lawrence River shipping. The only relatives I am aware of were several Gore families in the Prescott, Ontario area. This area has the only concentration of Gores in the entrie province. Maurice Gore was buried in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. I suspect that some of the Pennsylvania Gore families may be related but have no information of my own to go on other than the census.

GORE

I am interested in finding information to prove or disprove a family story that states that our family is descendent of German and Dutch sailors who were pirates and took their name from Lord Gore of England whose ship it was that the sailors took. As the story goes, these German and Dutch sailors took Lord Gore's ship and called themselves "Gore - Men of Blood". Supposedly, my great uncle Robert H. GORE had a history compiled that showed this as a fact. I have yet to find any proof. My father's family (James Harold GORE, Sr.) is from Evansville, Indiana. Thanks for any help you can give me.

GORE / DAVIS / ANDRADE

Hello UK Gores, I am looking for my family in the UK. I have had no contact with my father or my family over there since 1958. I would appreciate any leads you might provide. I will include what information I know and hopefully one of you may be a relative and could put me in touch before I move back to the USA in Jan. 1997. My father went to the USA, arriving April 8, 1949. His name is Derek Barrington GORE, born in Huddersfield, May 13, 1930. His residence just before departure was Lewisham. He married my mother Cecilia ANDRADE in 1950 in New York. I arrived May 3, 1952. They divorced 1958, I think, while we were living in Bogota, Columbia, South America. Family information I do have:

  • 1. My grandparents are Sidney James Henry Gore married to Irene Davis Gore.
  • 2. I have an uncle John Gore, and an aunt Valerie Gore (may have married since).
  • 3. My father went by the name Del Gore (nickname)
  • 4. My grandmother's family, the Davis', are from the London/Kent area and the family owns or owned a castle in Ireland.
If you have any information about my family I would appreciate any help you can provide. I am in Germany right now and will be going to the US to open branches of our internet and satellite services there and the next couple of months will be my last chance for awhile to find them. I've tried searches, newspapers, genealogical societies, and struck out in all cases.

GORE

My line of the family comes from London (Dulwich and Chelsea to be precise, but I only know that back to around 1840). Family tradition has it hat my great grandfather, Herbert Gore (who was a great traveller as a railway engineer) was in New York around 1900/1910 but he was also in South America and on the Gold Coast of Africa around that time (we have photos showing this).

GORE

I am researching the Gore family originally from Connecticut, who settled the area of PA known as Sheshequin, in Bradford county. One individual in particular I'm searching for is Sarah Alice GORE, born 1861, Bradford Co, PA. Her father, Silas GORE was killed in the battle of Gettysburg at the Peach Orchard. He served with the 141st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. I have traced most of his family. After his death, his daughter, Sarah Alice, lived with her mother in and around Bradford Co, PA. Sarah Alice GORE married (year and to whom is unknown) and moved 'out west'. Pension records show nothing. I am very interested in finding out what happened to her.(email 18Oct1996)

Lucy Armistead MOREHEAD, daughter of Sen. James T. MOREHEAD, on 15 Sep 1846 in Covington, Kentucky. Orphaned at an early age (parents unknown) and became a ward of the Orphan's Court. GORE / KRAMTHON

Searching for information on James Robert GORE born ca 1810-1820. Died 27 March 1877 Jamaica. It has always been believed he was born in Scotland, however in view of the Gores found in Jamaica from very early days, he may well have been born there. Married to Elena (or Ellen) KRAMTHON. Children: Sussanah b ca 1840 PR (*see following note); Frederick b 08 Feb 1840 Dublin Castle; Charles H. b ca 1842 PR; George A. b ca 1842; Stephen; Isaac; Martha; James Robert d 1915 in Peru; Ellen Victoria b ca 1863 PR; Mary; Walter Augustus b ca 1862 PR; Ellen Jane & Thomas Edmund (twins) b 1864 PR; Euphemia Sotella b 1867; Theodore Amos b 1859 d in Peru; Ella Lucy; Harriet Lavinia b ca 1864 PR. There is another child, Rachel E. b ca 1866 PR, but it is doubted that she was James Robert's daughter.

*note: PR indicates that the baptism of child was located in the Parish Register. Many of the children's names were given to my Grandfather by one of James Robert's son-in-laws.

James Robert GORE was a 'planter', this was shown on Frederick's (my great grandfather) marriage certificate. He was at the Dublin Castle plantation in 1840 and later a plantation "...near Newcastle overlooking Kingston". This was believed to be the Middleton plantation.

In the Jamaican Almanac of 1891 there is an entry showing 'J.R. Gore & Co.' importers and general dealers in plain and fancy goods, haberdashery boots shoes etc.' This presumably is James Robert "Junior", his son. (email 10/96)
