Photos of Stetten, Germany

Stetten Church

Stetten Church

Stetten a. Heuchelberg is where Michael HOLD (HOLT in Virginia) was baptized 30 Dec., 1696.  The village is a couple of miles southeast of Schwaigern, south of Gemmingen, and northwest of Brackenheim.  In other words this area was a hotbed of emigration in 1717.

The formal name of Stetten is Stetten a. Heuchelberg*, but locally the village is known as Stetten.  The time was a few minutes past five o'clock (or 17:00, as they say in Germany), and we had just checked into our room in Gemmingen.  It was about a five minute drive to Stetten from Gemmingen.

(This photo was taken by Eleanor and that's John taking a picture of her with his own camera.)

* ("Stetten a. Heuchelberg" means "Stetten am Heuchelberg", which translates into English as "Stetten at [or near] Heuchelberg; however, after a thorough search of the Web for "Heuchelberg", I can find no reference to it.  "Stetten am Heuchelberg" is used to differentiate this "Stetten" from other "Stettens" in Germany, of which there are many, although only German historians, I'm sure, will know what "Heuchelberg" refers to.  SgtGeorge, Web Site Manager)
