In May, 2000, and in May, 2002, John and Eleanor Blankenbaker traveled to Germany and Austria to visit villages from which our Germanna ancestors immigrated.  This page contains photos taken in Klings, Germany (formerly in "East Germany").
(Each photo is labeled for the month & year it was taken.)
(If the photos don't load at first, click the "Reload" or "Refresh" button in the icon bar of your web browser until they all show up.)

Klings is the village where Cyriacus Fleshman originated.  It was formerly in East Germany, so it had not been visited too many times by Germanna descendants.  According to the Web, 550 people live here.  There is hardly a business in town.

Homing in on the area closer to the church, we get this view of the downtown area.  By the time you count three streets, you have run out of streets.  The town is very neat and orderly and in good condition.

The church can be seen more clearly here.  Right behind the church is the Friedhof, the "resting place".  What was the most common surname in the cemetery?  Check the next picture.

(That's John in the photo again.  How does he keep getting Eleanor to take these wonderful photos with him in the picture?)

By actual count, the most common name in the cemetery is Fleischmann.  Of course, there they spell the name with all of its letters.  As both of these cemetery photos show, it is a very beautiful place at this time of the year.
