Here is a somewhat zany look at the world of Gentner.
For those interested in Gentner trivia, here are some Gentner-related Web sites. The Gentner name is relatively uncommon, but you can still find it on the Internet. www.gentner.com is the home page for Gentner Communications of Salt Lake City, Utah. They manufacture telephone systems for call-in radio talk shows and teleconferencing systems. www.gentner.net is the Web site for Roland Gentner Software, a computer software company in Neresheim-Elchingen, Germany. www.gentner.org is a Web site for the family of Charyl and Robert Gentner, descendants of the Wiesental Gentners. There is a Gentner clothing store in Backnang, near Stuttgart, Germany. Gentner Verlag is a publishing house in Stuttgart, Germany that produces technical books and magazines.

Germans are justly famous for their beer and there is a Gentner Brewery in Wolframs-Eschenbach, Bavaria owned by Harald Gentner. Harald generously sent me a few bottles and my friends and I agree, it is fantastic! Thanks, Harald. | ||

Gentners also ran dairies. My grandfather, Frank Gentner, had a small dairy and milk route in Springville, New York. A bottle cap from the Gentner Dairy of Lodi and Stockton (in the Sacramento valley of California) is shown on the left. And M. J. Gentner's Model Dairy (right) was located somewhere in northern Kansas. Does anyone know more about this dairy? |

There was a Carl Gentner chemical products factory in Göppingen, Germany, east of Stuttgart. Among other things, they made Schneekönig (snow king) soap powder and Nigrin shoe polish. Their logo includes a chimney sweep carrying a ladder. The picture on the left is an advertising card for Schneekönig soap powder with a picture of Hussar General August von Mackensen, a German Army hero in World War I. On the right is an advertisement for Nigrin show polish. The Carl Gentner factory has gone out of business, but polishes are still sold under the Nigrin brand. Interestingly, the Märklin model train company is also located in Göppingen and a few years ago Märklin issued a special tank car and Benz truck with the Carl Gentner and Nigrin logos on the side, shown below. |
