Point, Georgia. He married SUSAN CAROLINE (UNKNOWN) December 11, 1834.

Notes for DAVID DAVIDSON:
David moved to Long Cane, Troup Co. GA in 1836. Long Cane is just
a few miles northeast of West Point on the road to La Grange.

According to the 1840 census, David Davidson ( 5-1-1-2) lived in
Troup County, Ga. The 1850 census named the members of his family.
(David was listed as 41, a farmer with $1,500 in real estate and
7 slaves. His wife, Susan was listed as 37. Their children included
William R. Davidson age 15, my great grandfather. The other children
were John P. - 13, Timney E. - 6, Lucinda M. - 3, Mary E. - 1)

David was still in Troup County in 1860, only the census says he
is 62 years old (I believe this was incorrect census information.
It perhaps should have been 52 years old, instead of 62 - agreeing
with the 1840, 1850, and 1870 census). His real estate was valued
at $2,860 and his personal property was listed at $15,000 --
which is probably the 16 slaves he owned by that time.
His wife, listed as SUSAN CAROLINE is in the 1860 census as 44
years old. In the 1860 census, the children are the same, except
that William R. Davidson is no longer in the household.
J. T. - 22, T. E. - 16, Margaret - 13, M. E. - 9, W. C. - 8,
S. F. - 6, D. T. - 4.

The 1870 census lists David as 63 years old. His wife, Susan Cary,
is listed as 53. The children still living at
home are:  Maggie, age 24; Mary, age 22; Watson, age 19 (farm hand);
Fannie , age 16; and Dolphus, age 14. His real estate is listed as
$1500 and his personal estate is listed as $1000.

Davidson is in very feeble health. He is suffering from a stomach

Generation No. 4

16. WILLIAM R.4 DAVIDSON (DAVID3, JOHN DAVIDSON2 (RS),
JOHN1 DAVIDSON, SR.) was born September
19, 1835 in Georgia, and died July 29, 1891.
He married KATE HAMMOND (?).

Notes for WILLIAM R. DAVIDSON:
1850 Troup County census lists him as 15 years old - farmer.

During the Civil War, William R. Davidson enrolled in the 2nd Georgia
Calvary, Company H, as a private.
He joined Captain Mathew in the Railroad Company, 9/1/1863.
At one time he was a depot clerk for the railroad.

In 1877 David Davidson paid taxes on land in Chambers, Alabama.
In 1878 William R. paid taxes for the
land. In 1881 William R. and Timney Davidson Beatey paid taxes for
the land.

Notes for KATE HAMMOND (?):
Mr. Johnson (Troup County historian) found the following death
announcement in the La Grange Reporter, Thursday, December 19, 1989:

" Mrs. W. R. Davidson, calmly fell asleep in death at 6 o'clock on
the morning of the 18th. The funeral services will take place at
the Presbyterian church, of which she was a consistent member, at
10 o'clock on the 19th. A good woman has fallen. Her loss will
be mourned by her bereft husband, four sons and two daughters.
(Yes, a good woman - one of the best. In all the relations of life,
she was noble and true, and was loved to the last degree.
Her death was a grand triumph. May god strengthen the bereaved.
- Ed. Rep."

Children of WILLIAM DAVIDSON and KATE (?) are:
	i.	ROBERT EMMETT5 DAVIDSON, b. Georgia; d. 1898-1901.

Notes for ROBERT EMMETT DAVIDSON:
Robert E Davidson is listed as a major for the 1 Florida infantry
in the Historical Register and Dictionary
of the U.S. Army, 1789 - 1903, Volume 2, page 204.
This is an alphabetical list of officers of the regular army who
were killed or wounded in action or taken prisoner. This information
was found at Ancestry
He is also listed in the book "Ocali Country" by Eloise Ott and Louis
Chazal on page 156. The book stated: "February 14, 1898, the
Battleship Maine was sunk in Havana Harbor, and the United States by
April was at war with Spain and troop trains moved through Ocala.
Company "A" Second Florida Infantry, known more familiarly as the
Ocala Rifles," commanded by Captain R. E. Davidson, was given
a tearful send-off by relatives and friends when the military unit
left for Tampa." He would have been 44 years old in 1898.

Additional information about Robert Emmett was found in a newspaper
obit about David Elmo Davidson. It stated that " his brother,
Major R. E. Davidson, was a commander of the Ocala Rifles."

R. E. Davidson was mentioned in a Leesburg Commercial newspaper
article about John Elmo Davidson being candidate for commission at
Navy Officer's School (August 1962). The article stated that many of
John's ancestors had served their country. Among the names
mentioned were "Major Emmett Davidson, early settler of Marion County".

Mrs. Sybil Bray of Ocali, Florida (historian and author of "Salty
Crackers") sent me a copy of a April 1898 Ocala Banner newspaper.
It told about Captain R. E. Davidson, covering the Arlington Hotel
in to a mess hall and recruiting office for the Ocala Rifles .
It named the men in his company and told of the days before they
left for Tampa and the Spanish - American War.

Sybil also sent copies of the list of the "Soldiers of Florida in
the Seminole Indian - Civil - Spanish -American Wars".
This was prepared and published under the supervision of the Board
of State Institution, as authorized by Chapter 2203 Laws of Florida,
