1820 BUCKINGHAM COUNTY

p108 New Canton
Davidson, Stephan  110110 30010  He married Lucy Neighbours around 1808.
Now proven to have been a part of DNA Family 7.  Per one of his descendants,
the family history is that Stephen/Stephan had brothers named Joseph and Henry
(and see the Joseph Davidson and Henry Davidson below).  We believe that this
was the Stephen Davidson who appeared on the 1830 Campbell Co., VA census and
then appeared on censuses in KY after that (and the family eventually began to
spell the surname as Davisson).  Per the 1850 KY census, he was born in GA in 1785.

p108 New Canton
Davidson, Joseph  000001 - 00301
This should be Josiah, not Joseph. He was the one
on the Appomattox census in 1850 (who was then in his 80s).  He married Rebecca Giles
and was part of DNA Family 10.  He was the last known son of David Davidson
(died about 1798 in Buckingham) and Mary Giles.  Josiah had older brothers named
William, Edward (married Judith Pendleton; see below), Stephen (see below) and Giles Davidson (Giles Davidson had moved to Amherst Co., VA, well before the 1820 Buckingham census, and Giles
married Gemina/Jimina Pendleton).

p109 New Canton
Davidson, William S.E.  100010 - 00010
We think that S. E. meant son of Edward (son of the Edward Davidson who married
Judith Pendletonsee below). He was part of DNA Family 10.

p116 New Canton
Davidson, William T.  000010 - 20100
Son of Josiah and Rebecca (Giles) Davidson, and hence, part of DNA Family 10.

p154 New Canton
Davidson?, Henry  000010 - 00100
He is apparently a member of DNA Family 7.  He may have been one of the two Henry Davidson's who were on the 1830 census in Buckingham....but no proof. Possible brother of the above "DNA Family 7 Stephan/Stephen Davidson."

p154 New Canton
Davidson?, Joseph/Josiah  011001 - 00001
This should be Joseph

This was apparently a member of DNA Family 7, and we dont know what happened to him after 1820.  He was a possible brother of the above "DNA Family 7 Stephan/Stephen Davidson" and Henry Davidson.  It was a different/unrelated Joseph Davidson who was in Appomattox Co., VA on the 1850 and 1860 census (that Joseph Davidson in Appomattox in 1850 and 1860 was younger, and it strongly appears that he was out of the Prince Edward Co., VA DNA Family 5  family"). The Joseph Davidson who was in Campbell Co., VA in 1840
and 1850 was another member of DNA Family 10.  He was a son of Philemon Davidson and a brother of Reuben Davidson, and that Joseph Davidson moved to Campbell Co., VA from Cumberland Co., VA sometime before the 1840 census.

p157 New Canton
Davidson, Stephen  210101 - 01201
A member of DNA Family 10.   He was born in Cumberland Co., VA around 1757 and died in Buckingham in the 1830s. Unfortunately, we do not know the name of his wife. It seems almost certain that Stephen was the father of Dr. Charles Edward Davidson who was a surgeon for the CSA.

p157 New Canton
Davidson, Edward  000111 - 00301
He married Judith Pendleton and a was member of DNA Family 10.   He and the above Stephen and Josiah Davidson were brothers, and all were sons of the David Davidson (died about 1798 in Buckingham) who apparently married Mary Giles (she may have been David Davidsons second wife..but no proof). We believe that the above-referenced William Davidson S.E.  was a son of this Edward Davidson.

Note: Goldman Davison, son of James Davison II (FTDNA  Davidson Family No. 13). "Goldman" is the official spelling of his first name per his own handwriting as a county tax official. Goldman was married to Elizabeth Wills. The two young females in the household would have been their eldest daughters Elizabeth and Karenhappuck. Davison, Samuel  000010 - 00100

Note: The identify of Samuel Davison (born between 1790-1900) is unknown. A Scott County marriage bond, dated 1/11/1816, exists for Samuel Davison and Sarah Ramey. The bondsman was James Davison (which one is unknown). Samuel owned 9 acres of land on Big Moccasin, and land tax records show it was 12 to 15 miles NE of the courthouse which was near the Russell Co line. Samuel disappeared from records after 1840; however, the land was never sold and it remained on the land tax list through 1855 with notations to the effect that the residence of the owner was unknown. (Submitted by Sue Elfving and reflects research as of 1 Aug. 2013).

Davison, James Jr  000100 - 00000

Note: The identity of this James Davison is unknown. He appears to be unmarried and may be the same as the 3rd James Davison who appears on the 1817 Scott County tax list for the first time with only 2 horses and no other taxable property which distinguishes him from the other two James Davisons. (Submitted by Sue Elfving and reflects research as of 1 Aug. 2013).

Davison, Daniel  300010 - 00010

Note: The ancestry of this Daniel Davison is unproven at this time. Per Scott Co deed records, he married Margaret Dyer, daughter of Francis Dyer Sr. The three young males in the household would have been their sons William D, Henderson W, and Jehiel H. The FTDNA Davidson y-DNA Surname Study has no participants from this Daniel Davison. (Submitted by Sue Elfving and reflects research as of 1 Aug. 2013).

p188/No Township Listed

Davison, John  000100 - 00000

Note: John Davison, son of Joseph Davison and Mary Edwards (FTDNA  Davidson Family No. 13). No record has been found that suggests John Davison ever married. Scott Co court records show that he fathered two female children out of wedlock with Catharine Barnhart who later removed to Missouri . John remained in Scott Co until he died after 1860. (Submitted by Sue Elfving and reflects research as of 1 Aug. 2013).

p188/No Township Listed

Davison, Joseph  000101 - 00101

The identity of the younger male and female in the household is unknown. Joseph named his children in his 1826 Scott Co will. (Submitted by Sue Elfving and reflects research as of 1 Aug. 2013).

Davison, William  100100 - 00100

Note: The parents of William Davison are unproven at this time; however, a descendant's y-DNA results places him as a member of FTDNA Davidson y-DNA Family No. 13. William was married to Sarah Sturgill. The young male in their household should have been their eldest son Joseph. (Submitted by Sue Elfving and reflects research as of 1 Aug. 2013).

p189/No Township Listed

Davison, Henry  000100 - 00100

Note: The ancestry of Henry Davison of Rye Cove is unknown. He appears for the first time on the 1813 Russell Co, Virginia tax list indicating he was at least 16 years of age or older. He was married first to Mary Taylor, daughter of Nimrod Taylor Sr and Mary Lotz, and secondly to Mrs. Susan Long Thompson. He is often shown by descendants as Henry P Davidson; however, no record in Scott Co has been found that documents this middle initial; however, a chancery suit records in Scott Co between his heirs do style him as Henry W Davidson. His second eldest son William P Davidson is documented (per chancery records) to have had the initial "P". A family genealogy written by descendants who removed  to Cass County , Missouri , may have inadvertently attributed the same initial to Henry. This same genealogy includes a tradition that Henry's father was named William and that he moved away to Kentucky with a new wife and had another family. The FTDNA Davidson y-DNA Surname Study has no participants from any descendant of Henry Davison of Rye Cove, and this family really needs a participant to test in order to further develop Henry's lineage since it is truly brick-walled. (Submitted by Sue Elfving and reflects research as of 1 Aug. 2013).
