JENNINGS, DEEMS, WATERS, WOODS, LENARD, LILLARD, DAVIDSON, BRYAN in response to Re: GEE, ODIEN, NOBLE, JENNINGS, COULTER, KINNEY, GLAZEBROOK, TAYLOR, posted by Jeff Bailey on Friday, 19 December 1997, MERCER CO. KY I have an Israel JENNINGS born about 1774 in PA; his father was Col. Henry JENNINGS, mother unknown; Israel moved to Kentucky at an early age (county unknown). The siblings I have for Israel are Lucrecia m. William LENARD; Degrass; Mary m. Jacob DEEMS ; Simeon; William; Israel m. Mary WATERS. I don't know if I have found all of the children of Col. Henry JENNINGS, so Thomas may fit in and your reference to William JENNINGS BRYAN made me think that this may be somehow related to my line. Israel married Mary WATERS about 1799 and had 8 children. They moved to Walnut Hill, IL. His son, Charles WATERS JENNINGS married Maria WOODS. Their daughter, Mariah Elizabeth JENNINGS, b. May 24, 1834 in Walnut Hill, IL; married Silas BRYAN in 1852; 4th child was William JENNINGS BRYAN. Other family names in this group are: LILLARD and DAVIDSON. This geneoalogy for William JENNINGS BRYAN is found in the book, "The Life of William JENNINGS BRYAN " Genevieve Forbes Heerick and John Origen Herrick, copyright 1925 by Grover C. Buxton. I am related to the JENNINGS family through Israel's sister Mary, who married Jacob DEEMS. I have a copy of a letter written by Jacob's son, Jacob Jennings DEEMS listing some JENNINGS ancestry (transcribed by Jacob Jennings DEEMS granddaughter). I would be happy to share what little information on do have my JENNINGS line.

in response to ASHCRAFT, DAVIDSON, posted by Janalee Garn William Davidson & Rhoda Ashcraft married in Estill Co., Ky. The "Estill Co. I have Rhoda Ashcraft b. 26 Oct 1804 Richmond, Madison Co., Ky. (dau. of James Sr. & Mary Ashcraft. James Ashcraft was in Estill Co., KY until 1836. In 1840 MO. ASHCRAFT, DAVIDSON - in response to Ashcraft, Davidson, posted by Lisa Sons I was happy to receive a source such as the "Estill Co. Marriage Permissive Notes" for William Davidson & Rhoda Ashcraft's marriage. Where can I find such a list? Maybe more of the family is on it. Makes sense Rhoda Ashcraft was b. in Madison Co., KY because her siblings on both sides of her were born there also. I wonder if there is anyone who knows Rhoda's mother's maiden name. I have her b. 1769 in VA or WV. She probably d. in Lafayette Co., MO. Rhoda's father James was b. abt. 1760/65, prob. in Fayette Co., PA. Do you have any idea where James and Mary were married? I know James' parents were Ephraim and Elizabeth Ashcraft, but I don't know where they were born, married or died. I have 3 children listed, Amos, James, and Prudence.

I am looking for a family of Davidsons who operated a ferry on the Monongahela River at a point called Davidson's Ferry across the river from Crucible. , possibly. That would put it in Greene Co., I think. Family history says Jeremiah Davidson owned this ferry and was succeeded by his son, Jeremiah, Jr. and that as late as 1847 it was operated by a grandson, James Davidson. The ferry is mentioned in a book entitled: "A Guidebook to Historic Western Pa." by George Swetnam and Helene Smith , on page 132, Fayette Co section, Item 38. I am trying to find Jeremiah Davidson, and his Daughter Rachel, who according to family history married my ancestor Samuel McKee in 1781. Sam was a Rev. War soldier who may have been at a spot called McKee Fort in Virginia about 4 miles from Davidson's Ferry. They had 5 children born at Davidson's Ferry and then moved to Ohio. Childrens names are Lewis, born 1782; Jeremiah, born 1786; Elizabeth, born 1787; Alexander, born 1789; Samuel, born 1793. Four more children were born in Ohio. So far, I have not been able to find proof that Jeremiah had a daughter named Rachel, or that she and Samuel were married. I would appreciate any help. I live in Indianapolis and can look up information here for anyone needing that. Elaine Harper [email protected] er [email protected]

DAVIDSON/ WITTEN-- Seek marriage record or any information for Virginia DAVIDSON, daughter of John and Tabitha (WITTEN) DAVIDSON of Tazewell, later Mercer County, Virginia/West Virginia. The DAVIDSONs' property was located on the Bluestone River. In March, 1848, they removed from Mercer County, Virginia, to Washington County, Virginia, according to Tabitha's bounty land and pension applications, filed on John's War of 1812 service from Tazewell County. Several of the DAVIDSONs' children were already residing in Washington County at the time John and Tabitha moved there. Does anyone know what has happened to Mercer County, Virginia, marriage records circa 1840-47? We have had no luck finding Mercer County marriage records in Virginia or West Virginia for this time frame. Are there any (Methodist) ministers' returns or church records for this period which might provide answers? Several of Tabitha's WITTEN relatives were Methodist ministers. Are there any old DAVIDSON or WITTEN Bibles, correspondence, or even family photographs which might provide answers? I will appreciate help or suggestions. Thanks.

Need information about DANIEL DAVIDSON and his wife MARY ENOCHS. Census records show Mary Enochs born in N.C. She is in the will of her father THOMAS ENOCHS, in Oldham Co., Ky. Her grandfather was DAVID ENOCHS and mother was MARYDAVIES, daughter of JAMES DAVIES of Rowan Co., N.C. DANIEL DAVIDSON,born in Virginia, and wife MARY ENOCHS were in Jefferson Co. Ky. records in 1810 with three small children. In 1817 they sold their land and came to Sullivan County Indiana where they settled and raised a family of 10 children. Where was Daniel from and where did he and Mary marry? I have land transfers and wills where THOMAS ENOCHS inherited from his father DAVID ENOCHS in Rowan Co. in 1781. THOMAS ENOCHS owned land in Jefferson co. Ky. in 1800. This ENOCHS family is related to REBECCA BOONE, wife of DANIEL BOONE. Any help appreciated and will gladly exchange information.

Lambert Clayton was one of the first residents of Buncombe County, and one of the first Justices of the Peace. He actually lived in present day Transylvani County. Seeking descendants and information about his ancestors. His father was George Clayton, 1723-1786 of Rowan Co., NC Lambert was born 1755 and died 1828. His wife was Sarah Davidson.
George CLAYTON b. c. 1723 (perhaps VA); d. will probated Rowan Co., NC 1786; wife Sarah (DODSON? LAMBERT?), will probated Iredell Co. NC 1800; believed to have lived in present day Iredell Co. Children: (1) Henrietta CLAYTON b. ca. 1745; married: Alexander DAVIDSON (most of their descendants went to TN but some remained in Iredell Co.); (2) Rebecca CLAYTON b. ca. 1747; d. perhaps 1782; married Robert OLIPHANT; (3) Rachel CLAYTON b. ca. 1749; d. before 1800; married: John FALLS; (4) George CLAYTON b. c. 1751; d.1814 (will Iredell Co., NC)married: Margaret (Peggy) THOMPSON (many of their descendants went to Buncombe and Henderson Counties.); (5) Margaret CLAYTON b. c. 1753; married: Robert NEILL; (6) Lambert CLAYTON b. 1755; d. 1828 married: Sarah DAVIDSON; (7) Ann CLAYTON b. ca. 1757; married: Thomas COOK (or COOKE); and (8)Hannah CLAYTON married:James NEILL. Sarah CLAYTON in her will mentions the following grandchildren: 1. Ann NEILL (probably the daughter of Margaret Neill); 2. Betsey NEILL (also probably the daughter of Margaret NEILL); Sarah Scott NEILL (also probably the daughter of Marget NEILL); Sarah CLAYTON (not sure which son she belongs to; and Lambert OLIPHANT (at this point I assume that his mother died before 1783 when it appears his father married again) I have information on many descendants but I am particularly interested in proving George CLAYTON's (1723-1786) father.

Researching the Brackett Davison Family. BRACKETT DAVI(D)SON was born in Prince Edward Co., VA on November 17, 1796, died September 9, 1863 Dallas Co, MO. He was the second son of George DAVIDSON and Lucretia MCDEARMON, both of whom were born in Prince Edward County. His parents moved to Maury Co., TN sometime after his grandmother, Sarah Owen Davidson, died in 1809. (In the final settlement of Sarah's will in 1825, it was noted that she spelled the family name DAVISON) George Davidson bought one hundred acres on Flat Creek for $200 on May 20, 1816 from Samuel Polk, father 0f President James Knox Polk. Polk, who had received 5,000 acres in a North Carolina land grant in Maury County, was a friend and neighbor of the Davidsons in Iredale Co., NC. Brackett bought several parcels of land adjoining and from Polk's grant and near the land of his father-in-law, James HARDISON. Brackett married Delilah Hardison, daughter of James Hardison and Mary ROBERSON on August 3, 1817. In 1838, Brackett sold his land on Flat Creek and moved his family to Missouri. Brackett and Delilah Hardison Davidson had fourteen children, the first twelve born in Maury Co., TN, the last two in Polk Co., MO. They were: *Thomas McDearmon, b. May 16, 1818, m. Elizabeth BARCLAY in Polk Co., MO on March 22, 1841. He was killed during the Civil War. *George (M.D.), b. Feb 22, 1820, m. July 28, 1823, m. Durrett Barclay on Sept 15, 1841, d. Feb 25, 1904. *James Hardison, b. July 28, 1825, m. Lucy Barclay on Mar 24, 1844, killed during Civil War, in Dallas Co., MO. *Milton McMacklin, b. Sept 9, 1826, m. Rosa Glover on July 24, 1845, d. June 12, 1912. *Margaret Catherine, b. July 13, 1828, m. Joe Stuart on May 7, 1845, d. Mar 29, 1910. *Calvin Brackett, b. Mar 1, 1830, m.(1) Matilda Jane Glover on May 10, 1849, (2) Mrs. Rachel Steinbaugh Bridges on Sept 6, 1864, d. Dec 6, 1903 in Rockwall Co., TX. *William H(ardison?), b. Jan 5, 1832, m. Sarah Jane Davis on Feb 3, 1853, d. Aug 21, 1855. *Sarah Elizabeth, b. Feb 6, 1834, m. John R. Glover Feb 3, 1853, d. Dec 6, 1887. *Joshua, b. Oct 13, 1835, m.(1) Henrietta BENNET c. 1855, (2) Mary BENNETT c. 1856/57, d. Apr 10, 1908. *Mary Jane, b. July 30, 1837, m. William Kennedy ATTEBERRY, d. Sept 9, 1848. Brackett and his older brother Joshua (1793-1850) served in the War of 1812. Pension records on file in the National Archives show that Brackett volunteered on September 27, 1814 in Maury County for a term of six months. He was assigned to Capt. James McMahon's Company (also referred to as Capt. Samuel Crawford's Co.) of Mounted Gunmen. His company was part of the First Regiment, commanded by Col. Dyer. Brackett was wounded at New Orleans on December 23, 1814 and was honorably discharged at Nashville, TN on April 27, 1815, being declared "three-fourths disabled from obtaining his subsistence by manual labor." DAVIDSON, LONG, STOOKEN, TROUTZ, WINTERS
posted by Joyce Hopkins on Wednesday, May 21, 1997 I have two Atascosa County ancestors. I am interested in contacting descendants of either one. Christopher TROUTZ (b.Baden, Germany) came to US thru NY in 1820 and came to Texas in 1837. He joined Texas army in Harris County--fought Indians and was a participant of the ill-fated Texan Santa Fe Expedition, 1840-41. He married I think in 1846 in Bexar County to a widow, Catherine STOOKEN.They are listed on the 1860 Atascosa census. He died near Somerset after 1860. I need more info on the wife and his exact death date. The second family, listed two names down from the Troutz family on the 1860 census, was James M. WINTERS. He was killed by Indians in 1861. His widow, Amanda DAVIDSON WINTERS married Tobias LONG. Both families lived in the vacinity of the Atascosa/Frio/Medina county lines.

Thanks.

Elaine Harper [email protected]

HANNAH/HANNA, DAVIDSON/DAVISON - I am interested in the Hannah, and Davidson families of Harford Co., MD. My Mary Hannah married John Davidson in Lancaster Co., PA in 1768 and we think that they lived in Harford Co., MD for a while before continuing the migration to Berkeley Co., WV, perhaps Mercer Co., KY. They finally came to rest in Adams Co., OH. I am hoping that some of the other family members might have remained behind in MD, hence the search for those surnames.

in response to Ashcraft, Davidson, posted by Lisa Sons on Sat, 25 Jul 1998 I was happy to receive a source such as the "Estill Co.
