from - Ancestry.com lists the names of immigrants who took the oath of allegiance to the province and state of Pennsylvania from 1727-1775. All males over sixteen years of age were obliged to take this oath and declaration, as soon after their arrival as possible. Each entry includes the individual's name, age, place of nationality, and occupation. Taking an oath of allegiance was a process undergone during early colonial emigration. Richard Davison had resided within the limits and under the jurisidiction of the United States for three years now last past and upwards and one year thereof within the state of PA, that he was actually a resident on the 29 Jan 1795 within the limits and under the jurisdiction of the United States, that he wishes to become a citizen of the United States he therefore humbly prays that on this taking the OATH, making the proofs and complying with the items prescribed by law he may be admitted to become a citizen of the said United States. William Stephens Esq., Member of the House of Representatives of the United States from Massachusetts on his oath declares that he has been well acquainted with Richard Davidson for the space of two years and upwards, during which time he has been a man of good moral character
