Bushy HartmanSource: [email protected] Subject: [VA-SOUTHSIDE-L] HENRY COX/COCKE, WILLIAM COX/COCKE, HONOR COX, TOLLIVER M. COX, ANN MADISON, ROGER MADISON, CLEMENT COX I am trying to find "my" Henry COX/COCKE. We tracked what we were lead to believe was his progenitor "Walter Cocke of Surry County" by the text Tenn Volunteers Vol 2 but the Henry's of that line so far do not match up. I feel he is of the William CockeCox line of Henrico Co. VA because of other movements where that line moves with our line. HENRY COX/COCKE b. mid 1700's married first wife name unknown has one child CURD COX born 1762 in Charlotte Co.,VA. Henry #2 wife is Ann MADISON m. 1773 Charlotte Co.,VA She is the daughter of Elizabeth TALIAFERRO, and Roger MADISON. They had a large group of children and eventually moved to Blount Co.,TN. Tolliver M., Samuel T., John Madison, Clement, Nathaniel Hall, Elizabeth (Saffel), Ambrose,Nancy. >From Blount Co. it is pretty well documented. Were trying to get past Henry and so far no one has. There are stories Henry was William Henry Cox and he owed money and baled and changed his name. I disagree with this theory since his first son Curd was born in the same county he married his second wife in. They have large amounts of land in TN and slaves. The two sons Tolliver M. and Clement go to Edgefield, SC in the early 1790's (were not positive of the date wether it is our Toliver or the other one who shows up first), and Tolliver married Honor Cox (her maiden name) in Richmond County in GA 11/08/1801. The Taliaferro Cox of William Cox direct line also got married there to Frances Davison 12/20/1802 in Warren County, GA. Both of these men were in VA now both in GA, coincidence or what? Also the possiblity they both lived in Edgefield by the census data. I am also searching for the Cox line that has a HONOR COX born around 1780 or later in order to marry in 1801. She could be from the VA, GA, or Edgefield, SC area even TN is a possiblity since Tolliver and Clement could of been living with their families till they were old enough to leave the family. If anyone has any info on these lines please let me know.
