David Caldwell (1725-1821), a graduate of Princeton, removed to North Carolina, where he

and was constantly harassed by the Tories. In 1781 the British encamped on his plantation and
burned his house, with its valuable library and collection of sermons. He was born in Lancaster
County, Pa.; died in Mecklenburg County, N. C.

Robert Alexander (1743-1813) was a member of the first convention held at Newbern, and at
the close of the war was a member of the Provincial Congress. He was born in Pennsylvania;
