Notes for Moses Gerard


Moses was a sergeant in Capt. John Wilson's Co. stationed at Fort Pitt at the
time of Lord Dunsmore's War in 1774. In the spring of 1777 he joined the
American Army and fought in the Battles of Brandywine, Germantown and Yorktown
and saw the surrender of Lord Cornwallis 19 oct. 1781. He returned to Garards
Fort. Moses left for Kentucky in the spring of 1782, joining Capt. Estill's
troops in pursuit of marauding Indians, which they overtook. In that encounter
he lost his life.
