Hoffarth, Hans Jorich
The book "A History of the German Baptist Brethren in Europe and America," by G. M. Brumbaugh. On page 61, notes Jorich Hoffart as being among members of the church who were baptized in Europe and who came to America with Alexander Mack, considered the founder of the German Baptist Brethren church. Alexander Mack is also listed as a passenger on the ship "Allen."
The name Jorich variously appears as any of the following: Yerrick, Jerg, Jrg, Yerg, or Jorick. Following the German custom, Hans Jorich would not often have used the first name "Hans."
Vol. 1, 1717 - 1775, Pennsylvania German Pioneers (3 Volumes) by Ralph Strassburger states that "Jorick Hoffart, Christian Hoffart (under the age of 15), Anna Margaret Hoffart and Anna Margaret Hoffart, Jr. were listed on a list of 59 Palantines, a total of 126 persons came on the Ship Allen, James Craigie, Master, from Rotterdam - "At the Courthouse of Philadelphia, September 15, 1729."
