(A) Birth: 11 Mar 1822; Death: 6 Jan 1887 Reiverview Cemetery Records, McCook,

(B) 1850 Fairfield, Jefferson Co., IA, Census: Chas. Fox 29 M Stage Driver b. NY
(C) 17 July 1850 married Julia Ann Grigsby at home of her father Demps Grigsby in
Wapello Co., IA
(D) Served during Civil War in 8th Iowa Infantry Regt. Was company temaster during Army
service and was appointed Regimental Teamster May 1863. Wounded at Shiloh, April 1862.
Later received a pension. When he re enlisted 1 Jan 1864 he showed his birthplace as
Nassau County, NY. However, Nassau County was not created until 1898, after his death.
Gazeteers show two areas that were known as Nassau. Finding nothing in what is now
Nassau Co., subject must have been born somewhere else. Several towns in Rensselaer
Co. were Nassau, West nassau, East Nassau and North Nassau. The village of Nassau in
Nassau Township is the only one to survive.

(F) Nathaniel Bartlett Sylvester's "History of Rensselaer County" (published
1880), page 421 re: town of Nassau: "Jeremiah Fox came from Columbia County, near
Kinderhook Lake, about the year 1800, and located nearr North nassau, near the Deverdaux
farm. he engaged in farming there, and carried on a country store.
"His sons were Isaac B. Fox, Bristol C., Oshee G., and Ethan S., who is yet living
in Chicago..."
