While all of the connections are not clear, we have evidence that Georgianna (Frentz) Dawson was descended from the prominent Vanderbilt family, probably the man referred to in this fragment of a newspaper clipping. Cornelius J. Vanderbilt was the younger of the two sons of Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt, the wealthy railroad magnate. The Commodore and Cornelius J. did not get along, and the Commodore disowned his son, leaving him only a pittance at his death. Cornelius J. was given to gambling, and accumulated a great level of debt. He killed himself on 2 Apr 1882 in New York. His body was taken to Hardford, Connecticut where his home was located. Georgianna was one of the children transported by the Orphan Train to Kansas, where she met and married Elmer Dawson.
