AUSTRALIAN FIFIELDS

The earliest Australian Fifield reference I have seen is of a Thomas Fifield who was convicted of a crime in March of 1796 in the shire of Surrey, England. He was sentenced to Australia for seven years, and arrived there May 18, 1798 on the ship Barwell out of Portsmouth. Reportedly he died in Australia without issue.

Records of New South Wales show that a Samuel and Charlotte Fifield had a family there. Most Australian Fifields descend from this couple, and their line is presented below. Frederick H. P. Fifield, born Hampden Maine about 1860, removed to Australia. In 1903 he married there Harriet Alice Blunt and had four daughters, two of whom were known to have died before the age of two.

He appeared on the census of 1851 in Moreton in the Marsh, Gloucestershire, England. He emigrated in 1853; Samuel, Charlotte, Hannah and John arrived in Australia on the ship Tamar, January 29, 1853.
