Orswell family of Tiverton

Orswell family of Tiverton, R.I.,
Fall River, Mass.,
and West

by Todd A. Farmerie

At the start of the 19th century, the Horswell family of Rhode Island began consistently appearing under alternative spellings of their surname, the variation adopted primarily by two (apparent) brothers from Tiverton, Benjamin and Israel, being that of Orswell.  While occasional members of other branches appear with this surname (specifically, the widow and daughter of their brother Ephraim; and a more distant cousin, George and his family in N.C.) it appears that all of the descendants of these brothers used the Orswell form, and thus this page deals with these descendants.
