Rufus P. Yancey, a noted educator, died at his home at Woodlawn, Ala. Sunday evening 3 January 1909.

Mr. Yancey came from Hickman County, Virginia when six years old and located in Giles County, Tenn where resided for [??] years. During the year 1[?0]3 he moved to Birmingham, Ala where he lived a quiet life. He was buried from his home at Woodlawn, Ala. On Tuesday 3 January 1909. Services were conducted by his pastor Rev. Mr. Lewis of the C.P. Church, after which the Odd Fellows took charge and laid him to rest in Elmwood Cemetery , he having been a member of that order in good standing for more than 50 years.

He left a wife and three children, Miss Eugenia and John Yancey of Birmingham, Ala. And William J Yancey of Pulaski.
