Winifred Egan Passed Away

By Chas. K. Bassett
Hyannis, Nebraska

Winifred Teresa Egan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Egan, was born in Hyannis, Nebraska, November 2, 1986, and departed this life at 8 o'clock p.m., December 24, 1923, aged 27 years, 1 month, and 22 days.

She attended the Hyannis schools where she was very attentive to her studies, until in 1915 she was a member of the graduating class. She then took a course at St. Agnes Academy in Alliance and graduated therefrom in 1918.

Never was the saying "Death loves a shining mark," more applicable than in her being summoned to the great unknown. She grew from childhood to a refined, amiable and lovable young lady in this vicinity and every acquaintance respected her and was her friend.

For several months her health had not been good and three weeks prior to her death was taken sick, but recovered therefrom and on the Saturday before the final summons went to the office of Dr. W. L. Howell to resume her work as bookkeeper, suffering a relapse the following day.

In addition to an unusually large number of friends she leaves to mourn her departure the parents, three sisters and two brothers: Mrs. D. L. Rock, Vetal, S.D.; Mrs. W. G. Heelan, Valentine, Nebr.; Mrs. Geo. W. Bunner and Thomas D. and Leo P. Egan of Hyannis; all being present at the funeral which was held at the family home at 2 o'clock p.m., Thursday, Jan. 27th, conducted by Rev. Fr. Daly, assisted by Rev. Fr. Albel of Seneca, and attended by a large number, despite the cold, all business houses in Hyannis being closed during the services in respect to her memory. Gerald Howell of St. Louis, a cousin, came and was present at the services.

The floral offerings were the most profuse and elaborate ever seen here which evidenced the high esteem in which she was held. The family extend sincere gratitude to the many friends who rendered assistance during her illness and after death.
