Monday, August 17

Leo lots better. He slept pretty good last nite. O. H. Texas operated on Sat. nite. They're in operating room & surely are nice people. In pm. they wanted to move Leo & me in with Texans but they finally decided not to. Leo a little upset but felt better at nite. Ate at J&M. They were from Bayard. Made jello. Met Chuck Grimm. Leo had orange juice & jello today. Listened to radio quite a bit. Leo slept pretty good at nite.

Tuesday, August 18

Awfully hot out. Worst yet. Leo just felt keen, though. Another woman operated on last nite. They moved Texas to end of hall & a woman in operating room. Saw Louis McNurlen at breakfast. He came over several times & bro't fruit juices. Swell kid. Got ice & Dutch cleanser. Worked! Folks & Lil's here at nite. Leo sleepy. They went home at 9:00. Bro't supper & ice cream.

Wednesday, August 19

Rained nearly all nite & early this morning. Leo just slept real well. I was only up about three times. Got up early & brushed his hair & wrote in diary. Getting nice & cool out. Leo got letters from Ida and Paul Jones. Mr and Mrs Boyden came up at nite, brought plums & talked. Listened to Stoopnagle & Bud & Lucky Strike Hour.

Thursday, August 20

Up early. I slept from 9:30 to 11:30 & thought it was afternoon. Drs took out stitches. Said we could go home but decided to stay ‘till tomorrow. Dad called & brought Paul Nielsen down I took Leo back. I stayed with Paul. He just swore terribly while coming out of ether. Mrs. Boyden slept with me but I got very little sleep. Gave Paul hypo.

Friday, August 21

Paul has gas pains. My side hurt. In pm. decided to go home. Drs. examined me & I'm ruptured. In bed for 2 wks & can't lift for six months. Aunt Lil & Del came for me. Rained. Stopped at Del 's awhile. Robert & Edna there. Home at 10:30. Glad to be home. Slept on floor.

Saturday, August 22

Felt pretty fair but surely wish I was up. Got pen & pencil from Aunt Ida & Morris. Slept in pm & moved to cot. Mom worked all day long. Slept in pm. Ida Marie came out while we were eating potato soup. Cloudy & rained a little. To sleep about 9:30. Wrote to Ruth.

Sunday, August 23

Leo better up some. Up at 6:30. Felt pretty good just aggravated. Must keep from having dull minutes. Had chicken for dinner. Listened to radio & read Sunday paper. Dad & Bussy to town in pm. Wrote letter. Made ice cream in pm and then went and got Howard. I slept on cot. Slept good.
