Real hot out. Slept on dining room floor. Slept nearly all am. Didn't feel very good. Went swimming at 2:30. Bussy, Thurman & Huff & I took our V-8 to see the Bayard fire. Pretty bad. Came home at 5:00. Took another dip, went down & saw dump fire Paul T. started & then home. Mountains came just at supper time. When they were leaving the whistle blew. We kids went in. Emery's garage started. Think someone set it. Everything real dry.

["Paul Tuel?" added later, above the line]

Tuesday, July 7

Didn't feel very well. Took salts & felt better. Cleaned whole house. Mom scrubbed kitchen. After dinner I painted the sewing machine. Put on bath suit & washed in new tub out in the yard. Cleaned up. Wore eyelet to bank nite. With Jean & Bertha. Jane Withers in “Gentle Julia.” Surely good. “Say not so, say not so.” Waited for Earl to come. Bells sat in car with us. Leo & Dad got new o'alls.

[added later: "Bertha Rhodes? Earl Bell?"]

Still hot out. Gave sewing machine a second coat. Slept a little before dinner. Fixed over glee club dress & then took bath in new tub. Floyd & Ronnie Cret. here binding oats. Went to work in V-8. Ordered groceries. Paul started to put them in wrong V-8. Happened to think of Grandma singing “Puttin' on the Agony.” – Freeky's pop corn wagon burned at 6:30. Not much work tonite. Home at 11:00 with Leo. I had a honeymoon sandwich & Leo had a smicker (sp?).

Thursday, July 9

Still no relief. Feel better. Cleaned whole downstairs. Sorted music & cleaned sewing machine drawers. Men finished shocking in am. My dress goods came & I cut it out after dinner from Inez's pattern. A little bit cloudy but I'm afraid I'll be disappointed If I look for rain. Mom made ice cream after supper. Bussy & I used new shower bath & then we cleaned up. Wanted to go to band concert but didn't get to. Slept up stairs. Didn't eat any ice cream. Just a little angry with the world.

Friday, July 10

Did the separator & then made my Indian Head dress. Sewed practically all day long. Still real hot. At nite made button holes out in lawn. Berneice P., Fat Reid, Ralph P. & Fat Davis here. After they left I took a shower out doors in new shower room. Leo constructed today. Put on pajamas, laid out on yard awhile & then to bed on dining room floor.

Saturday, July 11

Did separator & cleaned whole house. Finished buttonholes. Got dinner, ironed my dress, washed head under shower, got cleaned up, went to work at 5:30. Couldn't get emergency off, had to wait for Leo to come from fishing. Worked till 12:00. Leo & I got butter brickles. Had mapleline ice cream when we got home.
