Notes for JOSIAH BASDEN:
I have been reviewing my Basden/ Mills deeds for the `1820 - 1830 have come to a conclusion that Josiah must have had two wives. Josiah Basden/Baisden b. abt 1740 in Isle of Wight county VA, in his will dated 1816 (which is listed in the deeds of Onlsow county, NC) listed his wife as Mary Ann. It is thought that she is Mary Mills Basden a the sister of James Mills who left a will dated 1823.
Mary Mills and Josiah would have been married no later than 1758 for the estimated birth date of Josiah's son Elijah. Josiah Jr.'s age is listed as 70 - 80 years old in the Liberty County Ga 1830
census making him born sometime between 1750 and 1760.
If Mary were 16 when married sometime between 1750 and 1760, then her birth year would be between 1740 and 1750. The birth date of one of the younger children attributed to Mary Mills Basden, Silas
Basden, is Abt 1810. If Mary Mills Basden was also the mother of Elijah and Josiah Jr., she was bearing children in her 60's to 70's. Also Mary Basden was signing deeds disposing of her brother's property as late as 17 Feb 1837 making her in her late 90's.
I believe that Josiah Sr had a first wife who became the mother of Elijah, Josiah Jr, Selah, Hosea, and Jonathan; and that Maryann Mills was the mother of his last three children, Lightborn md. Elizabeth Mills, Silas md. Elda Mills, and Matthew.
Also I believe that Elizabeth Mills, wife of Lightborn, is the daughter of Jesse Mills the brother of Maryann and James Mills. Elizabeth's sisters or one might be mother are Sarah and Mourning Mills. Jesse Mills is not listed as one of the heirs disposing of James Mills's property in 1837, instead of Jesse appear Elizabeth Mills Basden and husband Lightborn son of Josiah and Maryann Mills Basden, and Sarah and Mourning Mills.

"The Heritage of Onlsow county" gives Mary Ann Mills as the wife of Josiah Baisden. Josiah's will listed as a deed dated 1816 lists his wife as Mary Ann. She is thought to be the sister of James Mills who left a will dated 1823. If the Mary Ann listed in Josiah's will/deed dated 1816 is the sister of James Mills, then Mary Ann is probably a second wife. The sister of James Mills will of 1823, Mary Basden, is still alive 17 Feb 1837 signing deeds disposing of the property of her brother James Mills.
