The site is located about 14 miles from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. It was settled in 1696 by 52 people from New England who landed at Seawee Bay. This group was ship wrecked on Cape Fear on the North Carolina coast and had to spend the winter there before reaching South Carolina.
