New Camp Coal Camp
New Camp Mining Camp

The New Camp was located on Route 23, south of Pound, Virginia in the Indian Creek community. Built by Clinchfield Coal Company to provide homes for their foreman's in 1952. The camp consisted of ten, three bedroom houses, five of which are still standing. Some of the people living there were the Card, Walters, Wright, Alderson, VanHorn, Clark, West and Selvey families, the Dutch Buskell family and finally the E.J. Gillenwater family.

They brought the custom of Trick or Treat with them, much to the delight of the neighborhood children.

Some of the children living in the camp that I attended school with were: Linda Walters, Bruce Card, Eugene, Roger and Nina Alderson. A few more of the children in the Alderson family along with Eugene,Roger and Nina were two more brothers Larry and David Alderson.

Others I attended school with were Roger and Naomi Wright, Betty and Barbara VanHorn, Iris Clark, Paul, Bob and Jay West and Jimmy and Carol Sue Selvey; as well as Sydney Buskell.
