Bodine, Smith and Woods Cemteries are three small cemeteries located off the main roads near the North border of the county.
Bodine Cemetery
Bodine Cemetery is just east of Park Springs. Its on the Bill Buckner Ranch that is now owned by his daughter, Bobby and her husband Leiland Jett.
Go north from Chico on Hwy 101 to Park Springs. Turn right at the Park Springs curve onto CR 1797. Go 1.6 miles to a white pipe gate on the left that says Buckner-Jett (JB).
Follow the pasture road to a coastal field and cross the field heading northwest. The cemetery is in the woods just to the north of a green pipe corner post on the fence line.
Thank you to Leiland and Bobby Jett for taking me to this cemetery. We found the 2 headstones buried in the leaves in November of 2000.

Smith Cemetery
Smith Cemetery is east of Park Springs in one of the LBJ National Grassland areas. Its in the woods about a half of a mile from the road.
From Chico go north on Hwy 101 past Park Springs to CR 1790. Turn right and go 1.5 miles to Echo Road. Turn left on Echo and look for the first gate on the right. Its a large "grasslands" double gate.
Walk in and follow the tracks off to the left. When the tracks fork stay with the ones to the left.
You will see a mound of dirt ahead and to your left. Walk into the woods just to the left of this dirt mound. The cemetery will be ahead and a little to your right.
Thank you to Homer Hodges for great directions to this cemetery. In October of 2000 there were 3 headstones in the fenced area in the woods.

Woods Cemetery
Woods Cemetery is located south of Sunset.
Go north of Alvord on Hwy 287 and turn left on CR 1793. Follow this road until it dead-ends into a gate. This is a locked wire gate over a cattle guard. The ranch is owned by the Cantrell Family.
After you enter the gate walk down the road and you will see the pipe fence that encloses the cemetery off to the left.
There have been several people buried in this cemetery but there were only 3 headstones that we could read anything on in October 2000.
Thank you to Mr. & Mrs. W.M. Woods of Boyd who helped us find this cemetery. The double headstone has only the initials M. & N. but we were told that Mitchell was a family name and that the "N." was for Narcissus.
