Bethel-Decatur Cemetery

    There are three "Bethel" cemeteries in Wise County. Decatur's Bethel Cemetery is located just to the northwest of Decatur about a mile out FmRd 1810 (road to Chico).
    We found 576 headstones when we surveyed the cemetery the first part of April 2000. We added 40 additional records from a listing that was done by Mr. & Mrs. Homer L. Roper and Mr. & Mrs. W. Cletus Johnston in April 1967.
    There's a metal headstone plaque in the cemetery that says "William Benton Edwards 1800-1875 First Grave in Bethel Cemetery".
