Ball Knob Cemetery

Ball Knob Main Gate.jpg (107097 bytes)   Ball Knob Cemetery is located northwest of Alvord. Start north out of Alvord on Fm Rd 1655 and turn right just past the railroad tracts in town on E. Pine Street. Turn left on N. Shankle Street and then right on Beyette. After a few blocks take the right fork (CR 2590). Turn left on CR 2585 and then right on CR 2475. The road climbs to the top of the "knob" and the cemetery is on the left.
    When we visited the cemetery in October of 2000 it was mowed and well kept up. We recorded 230 headstones in one section and 8 rows.
    There is a historical marker at the main gate (text to right) and also a meeting pavilion building on the east side.

  Ball Knob Cemetery

    Land originally owned by James Ball, Sr. (1789-1867). Member of pioneer family. Used as burial ground for family and friends.
    Deeded 1890, by J.S. and Nancy Ball to Audubon Community. Incorporated as cemetery association 1962.

Ball Knob Map.jpg (18011 bytes)    In February of 1999 Dianna Joy Baklik, of Temple, and Mary S. Howard, of Alvord, carefully surveyed the cemetery and provided the information for our use. At that time they were able to read a few headstones that we could not read less than a year later. They also provided the maiden names and other information on some of the relatives that they were researching. This information is included in follow data with brackets around it, ( ) or [ ]. If there’s a bracket around a headstone number it means we did not find that headstone and of course there is no picture available.
