Funeral for Lou Raley, 77, of Bridgeport will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5 at First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport with the Rev. Lucia Kremzar officiating. Burial will be at Chico Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Hawkins Funeral Home.
Raley died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2007, at her home.
Born March 14, 1930, in Bellevue to Robert W. and Mary Vaughn Kinsey, she married Vernon Raley on July 3, 1948, in Borger. They were married 47 years until his death May 4, 1996. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Pete and Mike Kinsey.
She is survived by her sons, Tommy Raley and his wife, Elaine, of Chico and Tim Raley and his wife, Sherry, of Crafton; grandchildren, Jereme Raley and his wife, Glory, of Temple and Tyler and Taylor Raley of Crafton; sister, Josephine Smith and her husband, Richard, of Monahans; brothers, Doug Kinsey and his wife, Margaret, of Tyler and Ronny Kinsey and his wife, Charolette, of Buffalo Springs; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Allen Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Wesley Kinsey, Clay Cavasos, Dickie Dunn, Mitch Arrington, Harvey Swaim and Arthur Martinez.

Raley, Mabeth Robertson

Funeral for Mabeth Robertson Raley, 81, of Runaway Bay will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18 at First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport with Rev. Lucia Kremzar officiating. Burial will be at Alvord Cemetery.
Raley died Thursday, Nov. 15, 2007, in Decatur.
Born March 26, 1926, in Decatur to Roy N. and Lottie Mae Potts Robertson, she married Leslie W. Raley Feb. 12, 1963, in Bridgeport. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeport. She was a past matron of the Decatur Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Leslie W. Raley, and special cousin, Taylor Fullingim.
Pallbearers will be Tom Raley, Tim Raley, Jim Nivens, Dustin Dobyn, Jimmy Meyers and Robbie Handlon.

Ramirez, Anselma Martinez

Funeral for Anselma Martinez Ramirez, 70, of Bridgeport was to be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport. The Rev. Margarito Lara was to officiate. Burial was to follow at Mexican Cemetery.
Ramirez died Thursday, May 12, 2007, in Decatur.
Born April 21, 1937, in Bridgeport to Liandro and Felicia Davila Martinez, she was homemaker. She married Jose Ramirez on April 18, 1985, in Frederick, Okla. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Bridgeport.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ricky Herrera; daughters, Thomasa Martinez and Alice Coleman; sisters, Juanita Padron, Amelia Nuncio and Bruno Lopez; and brothers Manuel and Freddie Martinez.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Ramirez of Bridgeport; daughters, Terry Romero of Bridgeport, Rita Granada of Fort Worth, Mona Corbin of Burleson and Rosalinda Herrera of Gainesville; sons, Ernest Herrera of Bridgeport, David Herrera of Chico, Anthony Rios of Denton, Carmen Martinez of Mineral Wells and Julio Martinez of Hondo; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brothers, Benny Martinez of Fort Worth, Joe Martinez of Bridgeport, Jessie Paul Martinez of Fort Worth and Raymond Martinez of Bridgeport; and sisters, Lola Ramirez, Lupe Silletti, Connie Silletti, Rose Ostiquin and Frances Huerta, all of Bridgeport.

Ratliff, Marvin C.

Graveside service for Marvin C. Ratliff, 83, of Fort Worth will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 25, at Boyd Cemetery. The Rev. Arnold Parker and Wayne Parker will officiate. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Christian-Hawkins Funeral Home in Boyd.
Ratliff died Thursday, June 21, 2007, in Fort Worth.
Born Jan. 12, 1924, in Ardmore, Okla., to Harry and Lillie (Early) Ratliff, he graduated from Boyd High School in 1941. He married Theda Ruth Madewell on Sept. 26, 1942, in Boyd. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He worked for Swift and Company for 24 years and retired as a photographer from Meisel Inc. in Dallas. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Boyd Yellowjackets.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Clinton Ratliff; and three sisters, Ivy Zucarro, Ruth Baker and Jewell Hardy.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Joyce Ann Ratliff of Denver, Colo.; two sons, Robert Ratliff and wife, Jean, of Benbrook and Larry Ratliff and wife, Joan, of Littleton, Colo.; six grandchildren, Becky Ogilvie and husband, Chris, Tracy Schroeder, Kyle Ratliff and wife, Jennifer, Andrew, Amy and Daniel Ratliff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rawls died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, in Decatur.
Born Sept. 16, 1918, in Locker, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Phil Rawls of Dallas; a daughter, Paula Hendrix and husband, Joe, of Waco; grandchildren, Brian Hendrix of Victoria and Carolyn Walker and husband, Van, of Crawford; and great-great-grandchildren, Kelly and Bethany Walker.

Ray, Billy V.
1945-2007
Graveside services for Billy V. Ray, 61, of Boyd, were to be private, with Perry MacFlories serving as speaker.
Ray died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, in Fort Worth.
Born Nov. 15, 1945, in Fort Worth to Albert Winfield and Ella Mae (Spears) Ray, he married Barbara Fincher April 11, 1969, in Killeen. He served in the U.S. Army and was an employee of Imperial Fabrications in Decatur.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Wayne Ray.
He is survived by his wife; a son, William A. Ray and wife, Amy, of Boyd; a daughter, Wendy McGill and husband, Joe, of Boyd; grandchildren, Stephen Bowman, Jessica McGill, Caitlyn Ray, Colten Ray, Dylan McGill and Tylor Seely; mother, Mae Ray of Rendon; a brother, Joseph Henry Ray of Crescent City, Fla.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers were Joe McGill, William Carmichael, Jim Moody, Doug Garnett, Greg Gaunt and Claud Arnold.

Reagan, Gary P.
1950-2007
Memorial service for Gary P. Reagan, 57, of Rome, N.Y., will be held at a later date. He is the nephew of Dessie M. Thompson of Alvord and the grandson of the late Sam and Mecia Reagan and Carlos and Cecil Watts, all of Decatur.
Reagan died Friday, Nov. 23, 2007, in Rome.
Born Feb. 11, 1950, in Lawton, Okla., to James W. and Maxine C. Watts Reagan, he graduated from Eisenhower High School in 1968. He married Karen L. Mills on June 23, 1973, in Washington, D.C. He was an accounting technician for DFAS at Griffis Air Force Base. He was the business development director for Lawton Housing Authority from 1995 to 2006.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Stephanie N. Reagan, of Norman, Okla.; a sister, Sharon Byram and husband, Charles, of Belton, Okla.; a niece, Kim Gerard and husband, Clem, of Johnson, Kan.; a nephew Chuck Byram and wife, Wendy, of Lees Summit, Mo; five great-nieces and nephews; and an aunt, Dessie M. Thompson of Alvord.

Rector, Sam Dale, Sr.
1926-2007
Funeral for Sam Dale Rector Sr., 81, of Decatur was to be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at the First Baptist Church in Decatur. The Revs. Craig Erb and Doug Vaughn were to officiate. Burial was to follow at Sanger Cemetery.
Rector died Thursday, June 7, 2007, in Fort Worth.
Born May 19, 1926, in Sanger to Sam and Ruth Rector, he graduated from Sanger High School in 1944. He received his bachelor of science in agricultural education from Texas A&M University in 1948 and his masters degree from North Texas State University. He also attended Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Rector taught in Millsap and Krum before teaching 23 years in Decatur. He also pastored Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and Bell Baptist Church in Decatur for 32 years.
He was a past master of masonic lodges in Millsap and Decatur. He was a member of the Texas State Teachers Association, the Wise County Retired Teachers Association and the Texas A&M Association of Former Students Country Club. He was also an honorary member of the Texas Future Farmers of America and Texas Vocational Teachers Association.
Rector served as dairy superintendent for 32 years at the Wise County Youth Fair. He married Bobbie Lee Lewter June 26, 1955.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ray Dean Rector.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Dale Rector and wife, Mary Lynn, of Crowley and Mark Rector and wife, Susan, of Decatur; two daughters, Lee Ann Arrington and husband, Mitch, of Bridgeport and Rhonda Enis and husband, Curtis, of Alvord; nine grandchildren, Lacie, Ryan, Taylor and Haley Rector, Lindsey, Emily and Blake Arrington and Whitney and Logan Enis; two brothers, Jack Rector of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Bob Rector of Frisco; and a sister, Pat Blalock of Duncanville.
Pallbearers were to be Byron Blalock, Johnny Blalock, Rex Rector, Brent Williams, Ron Mosley and Joel Gann. Honorary pallbearers were to be Raymond Gann, Ray Mosley and Charlie Burns.

Reid died Thursday, March 15, 2007, in Dallas.
Born March 10, 1978, in Fort Worth, he was a machinist for Del Fasco and a member of Cross Timbers Church.
He is survived by his son, Elijah Skyler Reid of San Antonio; his fiance, Natalie Latko of Hurst; his parents, Perry and Debbie Reid of Rhome; a brother, Coby Reid and wife, Jessica, of Newark; and his grandparents, Morris and Barbara Burcham of Boyd.

Funeral service for Martha Faye Renner, 62, of Nocona was to be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the Alvord Church of Christ in Alvord with Gentry Castleman officiating. Interment was to be in Alvord Cemetery.
Renner died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007, in Nocona.
Born April 7, 1945, in Dallas to Frank Elbert Goode and Martha Faye Jeffcoat, she married Tom Renner Oct. 29, 1973, in Waurika, Okla.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years, Tom Renner; two daughters, Robin Dykes of Westwego, La., and Christey Sageser and husband, Mike, of Alvord; three sons, Douglas Renner and wife, Julie, of Denton, Tommy Renner of Dallas and Michael Renner and wife, Debbie, of Denton; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; one sister, Elaine Dailey; and two brothers, David Goode and Dewayne Goode.

Funeral for Mary O. Rexin, 87, of Burt, Mich., and formerly of Chico, was Monday, Jan. 15, with the Rev. Daniel Bowman officiating. Burial was at Christian Memorial Cultural Center Cemetery in Peck, Mich.
Rexin died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2007, in Burt.
Born May 24, 1919, in Marlette, Mich., to Lloyd and Ruby (Funk) Osburn, she married Howard Rexin on Nov. 28, 1943, in Detroit, Mich. They lived in Chico from 1980 to 1998. She was a member of the Cass City United Methodist Church, Morris Memorial United Methodist Church in Chico, the woman’s society and the library club.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, Grant Osburn.
She is survived by a son, Wayne Rexin and wife, Barbara, of Hermiston, Ore.; a daughter, Mary McAnany and husband, Mac, of Burt; a brother, Lee Osburn of Vero, Fla.; two sisters, Marian Meredit and Iva Harneck and husband, Ivan, all of Marlette; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Rhine, Esther Caraway
1914-2007
Funeral service for Esther Caraway Rhine, 93, was to be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at Coker-Hawkins Funeral Home in Decatur with Rev. Ken May to officiate. Burial was to follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.
Rhine, a homemaker, died in Decatur on Oct. 4, 2007.
Rhine was born on May 14, 1914, in Decatur to Henry and Alice Young. She married Andy Caraway on Jan. 26, 1946. They spent several years running a dairy farm together before moving to town. Andy died on Dec. 8, 1985.
Rhine married Grady Rhine in 1986. Grady died on Christmas Eve of 2003.
Esther was a member of the First Baptist Church in Decatur.
She leaves no survivors in her immediate family.
Pallbearers were Andy Hawkins, Jerry Bethurum, Jerry Mara, Vic Morton, Frank Maxwell and W.M. “Doc” Lewis.

Rhine died Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, in Celina.
Born March 19, 1943, in Wheeler to Homer and Ann Dollins Pitcock, she was a homemaker. She married Charles Rhine on July 21, 1967, in Pampa.
She is survived by her husband of Paradise; two daughters, Liz Hubbard and husband, James, of Decatur, Brandi Schedcik and husband, John, of Alvord; three sons, Bill Munday, Homer Munday and wife, Nelda, and Rodney Rhine, all of Paradise; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born Nov. 19, 1963, in Paducah, he was an airline electrician with Boeing/Labinol. He married Rhonda Clark on Sept. 16, 1983, in Ardmore, Okla. He was a member of Crossing Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Rhonda Rhodes of Decatur; a son, Rickey Rhodes of Decatur; a daughter, Latricia Creswell and husband, Chris, of Decatur; two grandchildren, Celeste and Christian Creswell; and his parents, Bascom and Mary Patterson of Paducah.
Pallbearers were to be Ronney Smith, Jerry Taylor, Clark Turner, Jacob Rose, Cliff Fuentes and James Nunley. Honorary pallbearers were to be Hank Patterson, Mark Patterson, James Patterson and Michael Mays.

Richards died Monday, Feb. 26, 2007.
Born Nov. 2, 1925, in Vera to James Floyd and Maggie Dove (Moore) Henson, she was a retired elementary teacher’s aide.
She is survived by a sister, Peggy J. Miller, and a niece, Cynthia R. Mitchell and her husband, Tom.

Memorial service for Candace Marie Richardson-Clark, 54, of Decatur will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3 at the Decatur High School Theater.
Clark died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2007, near Decatur.
Born June 6, 1954, in Houston she was known for her work with the school theater costumes and work with downtown Main Street. She was Rodeo Queen Coordinator for 12 years and will be remembered for her carriage rides for rodeos, community events and parades.
She was preceded in death by her son, Shane Eichthaler.
She is survived by her son, Steven Eichthaler of Decatur and longtime partner, Steven W. Eichthaler.

Funeral for Edith L. Riley, 92, of Boyd was Jan. 23 at Briar Church of Christ. Phillip McIntosh and Kenton Harvey officiated. Burial followed at Pleasant Grove Cemetery No. 2.
Riley died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, in Decatur.
Born Nov. 22, 1914, in Boyd, to William and Maude (Buck) Rickman, she was a retired dietician and member of the Briar Church of Christ. She married Foy E. Riley Oct. 6, 1934, in Fort Worth.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, Michael; a brother, Jim Rickman; and two sisters, Edna Gant and Joann Yoder.
She is survived by a son, Gary L. Riley of Boyd; a daughter, Sue Sinclair and husband, Robin, of Ireland; a brother, Bill Rickman of Boyd; a sister, Lois Beaty and husband, Ernest, of Boyd; five grandchildren, Sarah, Jay, Amy, Scott and Shawn; one great-grandchild, Caitlan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rippy died Thursday, March 8, 2007.
Born Jan. 11, 1932, in Decatur to Bill McBrayer and Fannie Pearl Askey Rippy, he was a 1949 graduate of Carter Riverside High School in Fort Worth. He also graduated from Texas Christian University with a bachelor’s degree in history. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Deanna Spain Rippy; a sister, Nancy Rippy Welton; three children, Marsha Hill and husband, George, Wesley Rippy and wife, Becky, and Roger Rippy and wife, Albina; and seven grandchildren, Micah, Matthew, Molly, Travis, Jared, Dalton and Michael.

Ritz died Sunday, April 22, 2007, in Fort Worth.
Born Dec. 31, 1933, in Pulaski, Iowa, to Hubert and Ruth Ritz, he was a retired appliance serviceman for Westinghouse.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Shelton Ritz.
He is survived by two daughters, Susan Ritz of Keller and Gail Box and husband, Curtis, of Haltom City; a son, Mark Ritz of Haltom City; two granddaughters, Deanna Clarke and Amanda Dillon; two grandsons, Jeremy Farmer and Joseph Ritz; a great-grandson, Kyle Dillon; and two sisters-in-law, Linda Morris of Decatur and Barbara Dunn of Bridgeport.

Born Aug. 17, 1922, in Jacksboro to Lewis and Annie Bell Humphries Wilkinson, she married Joe Roberts Jr. on Dec. 27, 1982, in Apache Junction, Ariz. She was a retired State Farm agent.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Kelly Kramer and two sisters, Mary Vaughn and Betty Renfro.

Roberts died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, in Bowie.
Born Oct. 30, 1955, in Waxahachie to Robert Henry and Almeta Rae (Fowler) Roberts, he graduated high school and joined the United States Army. He married his wife, Kay, on May 21, 1988, in Wichita Falls and moved to Sunset. He worked as a truck driver for several trucking companies. He enjoyed the outdoors, specifically hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle. He was known as ‘Pack-Rat’ by his friends.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Samuel Roberts of Sunset; his father, R.H. Roberts and wife, Jan, of Italy; his mother of Gallitin, Tenn.; a brother, Chris Roberts of Arlington; two sisters, Karen Roberts of Arlington; stepbrothers and sisters, Randy Rudd and wife, Lynn, of Italy, Tammy Dekle and husband, Ralph, of Duncanville, Vicky Compton and husband, Randy, of Waxahachie, and Hot Rod Rudd and wife, Christine, of Idaho; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Robertson died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, in Pilot Point.
Born July 17, 1923, in Munday, to R.J. and Wilma Orene (Smith) Alexander, she married Marvin Kirkeby. He preceded her in death in 1987. She later married Weldon Robertson, who preceded her in death in 1998. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Sanger and a retired bank bookkeeper.

He was a deacon at Faith Baptist Church in Sherwood Shores and a life member of VFW Post No. 8789 in Bowie where he served as post commander. He farmed and ranched in Sunset and was a golfer.
He was preceded in death by is first wife, Helen; and two brothers, J.T. Sanford and Marvin Sanford.

He was a retired engineer for Rohr Industries in Riverside, Calif. He was also a member of the Wise County Antique Auto Club, the Friendship RV Club and the Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Marie Bulmer; a son, Corey Michael Schaefer; daughters, Judith Claire Saul and Carol Sue Thornton; a brother, Julius Tee; and a sister, Frances Elizabeth Schaefer.

Memorial service for William F. "Bill" Searight, 83, of Amarillo, will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at Polk Street Methodist Church in Amarillo. Graveside service will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Austin.
Searight died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, in Melissa.
Born June 11, 1924, in Dripping Springs to Gib and Irma Searight, he went through Austin Public Schools and graduated in 1941. He attended Texas A&M University before joining the Army Air Corps. and won his pilot's wings in April of 1944. He was sent to Italy in the 15th Air Force, where he flew B24 bombers until Germany surrendered.
He graduated from Saint Mary's College in San Antonio in 1949 and married Patricia Stephenson May 19, 1951, in San Antonio. They moved to Amarillo in 1956.
He retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1968 as a lieutenant colonel and retired from SPS (Xcel) in 1986.
He is survived by his wife; children, Sally Rieger and husband, Tim, of Decatur, Pat Searight and wife, Susan, Gib Searight and wife, Kelly; grandchildren, Brad Rieger, Eric Rieger and wife, Marie, Whitney Cox and husband, Rusty, Kyle Searight and Tanner Searight; great-grandchildren, Gage and Mack Rieger and Paxton and Mackey Cox.
Pallbearers will be Eric Rieger, Brad Rieger, Tanner Searight, Kyle Searight, Stan Fisher, Greg Fisher, Mark Fisher and Fred Elsner.

Sewell died Monday, Dec. 24, 2007.
Born Aug. 12, 1916, in Rochester, N.Y., to Andrew Allen and Lillian McPhee, she married Dr. Robert Loane Sewell April 18, 1942. She graduated salutatorian from Rochester High School and obtained her registered nurse degree from the School of Nursing at the University of Rochester in 1938. She gave time and assistance to the creation of Providence School to provide special education to children with learning disabilities. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, the Fort Worth Junior League and Rivercrest Country Club. She hosted touring tennis professionals and a Christian missionary to southeast Asia.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother, Bud McPhee; and a sister, Pluma Chapman.
She is survived by children, Robert A. Sewell and wife Susan and Michael E. Sewell and wife Carolyn Sue, all of Rhome, Dr. David Andrew Sewell and wife Debbie of Fort Worth, and Kathylan Sewell Boll and husband Mitch of Benbrook; brother, Larry McPhee; sisters, Lorraine Guino and Ollie Moore; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Sewitsky was born Nov. 27, 1956, in Denton to Clyde and Barbara (Smallwood) Lambert. She married Robert Sewitsky on May 25, 1988, in Decatur. She worked at National Bannker for 35 years and enjoyed arts and crafts. She was a pee-wee football fan and a fan of the Northwest Texans.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, of Rhome; sons Robert Paul Sewitsky and Donald Paul Sewitsky, both of Rhome, and Ricky Dean Keck and wife Kristy of The Colony; a brother, David Lambert of Lewisville; grandchildren Kiley, Kaytlin and Patrick; and many aunts and uncles.

Shackelford died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, in Denton.
Born Jan. 10, 1948, in Knox City to Gene Shackelford Sr. and Billie Maurine Hill Shackelford, he was a coach. He graduated from Stamford High School in Stamford, Texas, and received his Bachelor’s of Business Administration in economics and business administration from McMurry College and a Master’s of Education in supervision from Texas Woman’s University in 1983. He was a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association, the Old-Timers Cowboys Association, Gorman’s Lion’s Club, 1977 Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Football Selection Committee and First Presbyterian Church in Denton. He was a 1983 Class AA Football State Champion Coach with an undefeated season. In 2001, he received Mirabear B. Lamar Award of Excellence from the Masonic Lodge No. 716 in Gorman. In 2003, he was given honorary life membership to the Texas Association of School Administrators. He married Marsha Lynn Royall June 6, 1969, in Stamford.
He is survived by his wife of Denton; two daughters, Stacie Leah Stegeman and husband Josh of Wylie and Jennifer Ann Guthery and husband Blake of Early; a son, Kelly Dale Shackelford and wife Margaret of Bowie; his father; a sister, Vickie Maurine Jones of Hawley; and four grandchildren, Carter and Davis Shackelford and Zachary and Mackenzie Stegman.

Shaffer died Thursday, June 14, 2007, in Justin.
Born May 2, 1936, in Beaver County, Okla., to Roger Youtsler and Mayme Marie (Stewart) Shaffer, he was a businessman. He graduated from Guymon High School in 1953 and from Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla., with a bachelor of science in mathematics. He served in the Air Force and Navy.
He worked at NASA as part of the Gemini program, was an Apollo Missions moon landing flight director, with Skylab and with the space shuttle program. He retired from NASA in 1976 and became a consultant for Rockwell Industries.
He received a master’s degree in advanced mathematics and a Ph.D. in psychology. He lived in Bacliff for 30 years before marrying Sue Winters Rawls on April 13, 1999, in Santa Fe, N.M. The couple moved to Amarillo.
He is survived by his wife; children, Melissa (Rawls) Huya and husband, Tim J., of Bridgeport and Tim Rawls of Guthrie, Okla.; a brother, Gene Shaffer and wife, Melva, formerly of Guymon, Okla.; a sister, Susan Crouse and husband, Steve, of Rose Hill, Kan.; grandchildren, Hanna, Dalton and Clair Elizabeth Huya; and numerous nieces, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Born May 29, 1988, in Wichita Falls to Marvin and Michelle Shackelford, she was a longtime resident of Wise County. A graduate of Perrin High School, she was on a drill team since the age of 5. She was an All-American cheerleader who performed in Orlando, Fla., at the Capital One Bowl. She was a member of the dance team at Perrin High School, was named to Who’s Who in American High School Students and was on the honor roll. She was attending Weatherford College and planned to teach art.
She is survived by her parents, Michelle West of Perrin and Marvin Shackelford of Wichita Falls; two brothers, Ty West of Perrin and Blane Maxwell of Wichita Falls; a sister, Mayci Shackelford of Wichita Falls; and grandparents, Wayne and Marie King and Mildred Shackelford, all of Oklahoma, and Frank and Barbara Marcotte of Wichita Falls.

Born Feb. 2, 1918, in Clyde to Herman and Virginia Jewel (Thompson), he was a former owner of Shaw Construction. He married Lucille Luna on Sept. 28, 1935. On May 1, 2000, he married Elsie Downie.
He enjoyed his ministry and had a radio program “Words of Hope” that aired each Sunday morning. He played the guitar, sang, wrote proverbs for his family and went to the zoo with his grandchildren.
He was preceded by his first wife, Lucille Shaw, in 1997 and by a son, Tex Shaw in 1996.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Clete Shaw and wife, Diane, of Alvord; a daughter, Clydena “Dena” Bryant and husband, James, of McKinney; two sisters, Faye Graham of Decatur and Earlena Watkins of Bowie; a brother, Vernon “L.V.” Shaw and wife, Gwen, of Bowie; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was pastor of First Baptist Church in Paradise from 1962 to 1967. He was also a pastor for churches in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. He served as chaplain for the North Carolina Department of Corrections for 20 years. He retired as associate pastor of Smith Memorial Baptist Church in 2006.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Tom Shirley of Chicago and Bob Shirley of Williamsburg; three daughters, Beverly Whaley and Susan Hubbard, both of Williamsburg, and Linda Welch of High Point, N.C.; two brothers, Parker Shirley of Belton, S.C., and Jim Shirley of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two step great-granchildren.

Born Sept. 7, 1916, in Hollis, Okla., to Edward and Amy Sypert Thompson, she married John Austin Sides Aug. 24, 1936, in Dallas. They were married 66 years until his death in 2002. Sides lived in Runaway Bay since 1975 and was a member of Runaway Bay Community Church.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Will Merchant, and eight siblings, Sypert, Bill, Buck and Pete Thompson and Ruth Wood, Amy Rackley, Rachel Haydon and April Royal.
She is survived by two sons, Ron Sides and wife, Martha, of Krum and Ken Sides and wife, Linda, of Bridgeport; a daughter, Tanya Harrison of Sasche; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Eddy Thompson of Bryan.
Pallbearers will be Austin Sides, Ryan Sides, Brian Sides, Hunter Sides, Drake Sides and Baine Rydin.

He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Simmons; a granddaughter, Deanna Simmons; his wife of 48 years, Lorain Simmons; and his wife of 13 years, Wanda Simmons.
He is survived by a daughter, Lana McKenzie and husband, Hewitt, of Haslet; a granddaughter, Andrea Powell and husband, Mark, of Fort Worth; two grandsons, Russell Jennings and wife, Marla, of Granbury and Jason Jennings of Haltom City; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Jennings, Deanna Powell, Jared Jennings and Peyton Jennings; and three sisters, Ettie Mae Doyle, Esther Roper and Bonnie Keen.

Sipes, Eddie
1947-2007
Eddie A. Sipes died doing something he loved: Working with his cattle and horses with his wife at his side.
Sipes, manager of Wise Electric Cooperative, died Saturday, July 14. His funeral was Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Decatur with burial in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Sipes and his wife of 38 years, Sharon, were loading livestock on their place south of Decatur when he suddenly collapsed. Sharon Sipes performed CPR on her husband until Wise County Emergency Medical Service arrived, but they were unable to save him.
In addition to his love of cattle and horses, Sipes was deeply involved in his work.
Sipes was named general manager for Wise Electric in 2006, succeeding his friend and mentor, Loyd Jackson.
“I knew Ed for 37 years,” said Jackson. “He didn’t say much, but when he did, you better listen. He worried about the co-op’s employees and members. He also had a great sense of humor.”
Sipes went to work at the cooperative in 1970 in member services after graduating from North Texas State University with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He was promoted to member services director in 1975 and was named assistant general manager in 1992.
Sipes was the state president of Texas Cooperative Member Services Association and received its lifetime achievement award in 2005. He served two terms as board director for the association, an organization representing rural electric marketing and communications personnel. He was past editor of the Wise Electric’s local pages in the Texas Co-op Power magazine and was author of the monthly manager’s column.
Sipes also served his community and church in a wide number of important roles.
He was elected to two terms on the Decatur ISD school board and served two terms on the Decatur Chamber of Commerce board of directors. He was active in Wise County United Way, serving as a director from 1981 to 1983 and received the United Way’s fund drive special award in 1980. Sipes was currently serving as secretary of Wise County Sheriff's Posse and was president of the Wise County division of the American Heart Association. Sipes also was president of the Decatur Youth Fair Buyers Association and chairman of the Wise County Youth Fair executive committee. A 4-H leader, he was general superintendent of the Wise County Youth Fair for seven years.
Sipes was an adult Sunday School teacher at both Pleasant Grove Baptist and First Baptist Decatur and was currently serving on the budget and finance committee at FBC where he had been a member for 25 years.
Sipes was born June 28, 1947, in Weatherford to Dr. D.C. and Wanda Waters Sipes. He was an outstanding athlete at Bridgeport High School, competing in track and earning all-district football honors in 1965. He was a Future Farmer of America member and earned a Lone Star farmer degree at BHS. He was also voted “most likely to succeed” in high school.
Sipes is survived by his wife of Decatur; one son, Joe Sipes of Boyd; a daughter, Shelly Vinzant and husband, Travis, of Decatur; grandchildren, Trinity and Wyatt Vinzant; his mother, Wanda Sipes of Bridgeport; one sister, Jackie Hutto and husband, Mike, of Bridgeport; nephews, Bobby and Brodie Doherty; and numerous cousins.

Bill L. Smith, 69, of Decatur, died Wednesday, June 6, in Decatur. He was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver.

Born Nov. 25, 1925, in Tarrant County, he served in the Navy during World War II. He was baptized at an early age in Oliver Creek.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Starnes; a son, Larry D. She is survived by her children, Curt Tage and wife, Shirley, of Great Falls, Mont., Bill Tage and wife, Jeri, of Greenwood and Judy Parrish and husband, Walter, of Bowie; grandchildren, Kim Cunningham and husband, Kyle, of Bowie, Corrine Brandvold and husband, John, of Snohomish, Wash., Todd Tage of Great Falls, Mont., and Kyle Tage and wife, Wendy, of Bozeman, Mont.; seven great-grandchildren; a foster daughter, Rhonda Morton of Bowie; a foster granddaughter, Ashley Hagan of Bowie; a foster grandson, John Hagan of Tennessee; sisters, Janie Ford, Florine Deweber and husband, Newton, all of Bowie, and Mary Mitchell of Bridgeport; and a brother, Archie Hicks Jr. and wife, Joyce, of Newport.

Graveside service for Catherine Ellen “Jarrett” Tarpley, 54, of Chico, will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30 at Chico Cemetery. Visitation was to be 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28 at Jones Family Funeral Home.
Tarpley died Dec. 26, 2007, in Chico.
Born Feb. 11, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Eva Caron and James Williams, she was a housewife.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Tarpley of Chico; son, Donald Jarrett and wife, Florencia, of Justin; daughter Heather Swatsworth and husband, Randy, of Boyd; stepdaughters Debra Tarpley of Seattle, Wash., and Trish Graham of Bowie; brother, Shelby Williams and wife, Trina, of Bridgeport; half-brother Wayne Braisher of Alaska; sister Marie Byers and husband, George, of Chico; five step-grandchildren; four nephews and one niece.

Tate, Jerry Hugh
1931-2007
Funeral for Jerry Hugh Tate, 76, of Paradise will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at White’s Funeral Home Chapel in Springtown. Burial will follow at Springtown Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
He died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, in Paradise.
Born July 20, 1931, to Arvil R. and Lula Boyd Tate in Borger, he was a longtime resident of Parker and Wise counties. As an avid cowboy, Jerry enjoyed a life of riding, roping and rodeos. He served his country in the U.S. Army and Navy.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Billie Tate Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Tate; two sons, Jerry Dan Tate of Weatherford and Jessie Wayne Tate and wife, Gina, of Rockdale; two daughters, Cherry Lynn Tate Watson and husband, Kenny, of Sunset and Michelle Tate Seay and husband, Chancey, of Rio Vista; two sisters, Margaret Phillips and husband, Bill, of Weatherford and Shirley Madderra and husband, Harold, of Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
