Abbott died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, in Bridgeport.
Born Nov. 25, 1911, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Natale and Rosaria (Otere)
Cannistracci, she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; a granddaughter, Danielle
Hines; two brothers, Paul Carr and Charlie Comistaci; and three sisters, Augie
Blue, Geneva Bates and Lillian Cannistracci.
She is survived by three daughters, Phillis Birks and Marilyn Roddick, both of
California, and Bette Hines of Boyd; a son, Richard Abbott of Maryland; five
grandchildren, Dale, Dean, Dawn, Douglas and Danon; and four
great-grandchildren, Nathan, Dylan, Shayla and Alexa.

Funeral for Joan Admire, 71, of Fort Worth was to be Saturday, Jan. 24, at 10
a.m. at Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Bridgeport. The Rev. Joe Motsenbocker was to
officiate. Burial was to be at West Bridgeport Cemetery.
Admire died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, in Fort Worth.
She was born April 1, 1932, in Bridgeport to Clarence and Audrie (King) Admire.
She was a retired office manager for Cockrell Printing in Fort Worth and a
member of the First Baptist Church of Bridgeport.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert C. Admire.
She is survived by three sisters, Rosetta Richards and husband, James, of
Arlington, Helen Fisher and husband, Carroll, of Lakeside and Lola Neil and
husband, Bob, of Benbrook; brother, Billy Admire and wife, Nell, of Bridgeport
and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers were to be Mike Pedigo, David Pedigo, Samuel Smith III, Robert
Fisher, Shane Miles, Mike Pearce, Patrick Talley and Micah Yarbrough.

Walter Joseph Alcumbrac, 87, of Bridgeport died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in
Decatur.
Born Jan. 11, 1917, in Chicago, Ill., he was a retired warehouse manager.
He is survived by a niece, Joan Haak of Decatur, and a sister, Pauline Hornburg
of Michigan.

Aldridge died Saturday, March 6, 2004, in Dallas.
He was born Sept. 17, 1999, in Fort Worth.
He is survived by his parents Chris and Misty Aldridge of Fort Worth; brother,
Kasyn Aldridge; grandparents, Roger and Waltraud Aldridge of Watauga, Larry and
Debbie Rasbury of Boyd and Donna Aldridge and Marilyn Stokes of Chandler, Ariz.;

Funeral for Audie Cecil Allen, 82, of Bridgeport was to be at 10:30 a.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 6, at Hawkins Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Charles Wetherbee was to
officiate, to be assisted by Billy Don Workman. Burial was to follow at Willow
Point Cemetery.
Allen died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, in Bridgeport.
Born Jan. 5, 1922, in Boonsville, he was a retired aircraft worker at Bell
Helicopter, farmer, rancher and carpenter. He was also a private first class in
the Army. He was a member of the Gibtown Baptist Church and a deacon since 1959.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leonard, Clifford and Link Allen;
four sisters, Lucile McClarendon, Jewel Gary, Trecie Laird and Lessie Fitzgerald
and one granddaughter, Angela Alcorn Wallace.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Angie Ilene Allen; three daughters, Ila
Alcorn and husband, Don, of Bridgeport, Sharon Kay Taylor and husband, Mike, of
Weatherford and Karen Gay May and husband, Jim, of Conway, Ark.; six
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were to be Ronald Acorn, Matt Taylor, Patrick May, Chuck Stevens,
Carroll Franklin and Pat Counts.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, at Christian-Hawkins Funeral

Almonrode died Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, in Rhome.
Born July 23, 1947, in Fort Worth, she was a homemaker and an active member of
Chisholm Trail Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy John Almonrode.
She is survived by two sons, John Almonrode of Hurst and Chris Almonrode of
Bedford; a daughter, Julie Boaz and husband, Paul, of Rhome; four grandchildren,

Amaya died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, in Wise County.
He was born June 18, 1977, in Rodeo Durango, Mexico. He lived in Bridgeport for
the past three years and worked as a painter for Crisp Industries. He was a
Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maria Del Pilar Ivanez Amaya, and three
brothers, Catalino, Venustiano and Ventura Amaya.
He is survived by his father, Catarino Amaya; five sisters, Ma. Elena Amaya and
husband, Isauro Renteria, Gloria Amaya and husband, Mario Sarmiento, Senobia
Amaya, Maria Davis and Hermelinda Amaya and husband, Paulo Perez, and three
brothers, Silvestre Amaya and wife, Arsenia Soto, Ever Alan Amaya and wife, Alma

She died Wednesday, June 3, 2004, in Alvord.
Born March 4, 1936, in Decatur to Glenn and Jackie Arnette, she was a longtime
Episcopalian who served on the church vestry and as a delegate at Episcopalian
conventions over the years.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Anderson; three sons, Steve and Mary
Anderson of Keller, Clay and Betty Anderson of Decatur and Blake and Robyn
Anderson of Dalhart; a daughter, Janan and Larry Miller of Alvord; a brother,
David Arnette of Dallas; and seven grandchildren, Whit Anderson, Kyle Anderson,
Taylor Anderson, Katy Anderson, Robert Brasher, Rachael Brasher and Carter
Anderson.

Arant died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in Dallas.
Born Jan. 13, 1928, in Brownwood to David and Iva (Goddard) Arant, he retired
from LaFarge Industries in Chico. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and
Navy and a member of the Cates Street Baptist Church of Bridgeport.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Annie Arant and a brother, David
Arrant Jr.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Evelyn Rose (Kraatz) Arant; two
daughters, Brenda Bynum and husband, Barry, and Shelia Woodworth and husband,
Archie; a son, Mark Arant and wife, Diane; two step-sons, Roy Provence and wife,
Sharon, and Travis Provence and wife, Carla; stepchildren, Linda, Randy, Cynthia

Armstrong died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004, in Decatur.
Born June 22, 1922, in San Antonio, she resided in Fort Worth from 1950 until
moving to Wise County in October 2003. She was a retired beautician and had
worked for Yellow Cab Company for more than 10 years and Holiday Inn for more
than 10 years. She was also a freelance artist.
She is survived by her two daughters, Peggy and Sherie; six grandchildren; 12
great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside service for Jesse Connally “JC” Arnold, 96, of Blacksburg, Va.,
formerly of Alvord, was Tuesday, Dec. 28, at Newport Cemetery. The Rev. John
Edwards, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls, officiated.
Arnold died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004, in Blacksburg, Va.
Born May 9, 1908, in Halsell, to Jesse L. and Lillian (Connally) Arnold, he
worked for many years as civil servant at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita
Falls. He was married to Lillie Christine Stark for 69 years. Arnold was a
longtime member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Wichita Falls, a Master
Mason for 57 years and served in the Army Air Corp during World War II and in
the Air Force during the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a brother, Luther Arnold; a sister, Helen
Cowen and a grandson, James R. Arnold Jr.
He is survived by two sons, Jesse Arnold and wife, Peggy, of Blacksburg, Va.,
and James “Jim” Arnold and wife, Joyce, of Houston; one brother, Robert
Arnold and wife, Laverne, of Wichita Falls; one sister, Birmah Malone of Wichita
Falls; three grandchildren, Christa Arnold of Gainesville, Fla., Jess
“Chuck” Arnold of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and David Arnold of Houston; four

States Navy during the Korean conflict.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Vernon, Mack, Robert and J.C.; and a
sister, Elizabeth Harper Campbell.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Faye Ashley; a son, Nim Ashley of Sanger; two

Born March 5, 1923, in Paris, Ark., he was a retired electrician for Textron in
Fort Worth and a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, a daughter, Ranelle Willis, and a
stepson, Earl Peters.
He is survived by a son, David Atchison and wife, Nancy, of Arlington; a
daughter, Diane McGee and husband, Emmett, of Fort Worth; two stepdaughters,
Linda Colvard and Sharon Shipley; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren;
four step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and

Funeral for Glenn G. Baker, 87, of North Richland Hills was Dec. 17 at Richland
Hills Baptist Church. Burial followed at Moore Memorial Gardens.
Baker died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, in North Richland Hills.
Born Aug. 28, 1917, in Watauga, he was ordained to the gospel ministry June 19,
1949. With his family and about 20 friends, he led in organizing and becoming
pastor of Brown Trail Baptist Church of Hurst on the first Sunday in 1953.
During the next 35 years, he served several small congregations.
He also worked as an engineering designer. After retiring in 1982, he continued
to do volunteer work at several churches.
He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was awarded life membership in 1987
and the Golden Trowel in 1997 by Richland Hills Lodge No. 1348 A.F.& A.M.
for continous service as lodge chaplain since June 1981.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ina Lou Hand Baker, and his second
wife, Ruth Loyd Baker.
He is survived by a daughter, Wanda Fitzgerald and husband, Jack, of Bedford; a
son, Calvin Marshall Baker and wife, Jeanette, of Alvord; two sisters, Helen
Yelenich of North Little Rock, Ark., and Rebecca Smith of Lewisville; and
numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Barnett died Monday, Dec. 29, 2003, in Dallas.
Born Feb. 15, 1931, in Denton to King and Lucille Barnett, he spent his
childhood in Decatur and Denison where he graduated from high school. He
attended Stephen F. Austin and Arlington State College and became a member of
the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He married Patricia J. Ary
March 9, 1963, in Gainesville. He worked for many years for Blair Electric in
Denton before obtaining his master electricians license and opening his own
company, King Barnett Electric. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

She was born Jan. 14, 1930, to Richard L. Huse and Estelle Simmons in Rhome.
She graduated from Rhome High School in 1947, Brantley Draughon Business College
with an associate of applied science degree in 1948 and Tarrant County Junior
College in 1982. She was named to the dean’s list at TCJC.
She married N. Ray Stockard in 1948.
She retired from Bell Helicopter in 1990 after 25 years of service and was a
member of the American Business Women’s Association, where she served as the
annual tea chairman.
She was preceded in death by her second husband, Chuck Beavers.
She is survived by her son, Alan Stockard and his wife, Kathy, of San Marcos;
daughters, Cindy Hiller of Amarillo and Cathy Blood and her husband, Jerry of
Arlington; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Born Sept. 18, 1925, in Bridgeport to Raymond and Stella (Brazier) Bird, he was
a lifetime resident of Bridgeport. He married Margaret Russell on Nov. 14, 1953,
in Bridgeport. He was a retired foreman for Gifford Hill and served in the U.S.
Navy in the South Pacific from July 1943 to March 1946. He owned and operated
the Bird Texaco in Bridgeport for 12 1/2 years. He was on the Bridgeport City
Council and was mayor pro-tem. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of
Bridgeport.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1989.
He is survived by two sons, Randy Bird and wife, Janice, and Ricky Bird; two
daughters, Becky Bowyer and husband, Bill, Linda Sue Grill and husband, Charlie;
five grandchildren, Stephanie, Stacey, Scarlet, Amber and Jurice; four

Branch died Saturday, July 3, 2004, in Decatur.
Born Feb. 17, 1912, he was one of five children born to Lenora Kelly and John M.
Branch.
He married Flora Catherine Hachtel on June 22, 1933. They kept their marriage a
secret until Flora was reappointed teacher of a one room school with seven
grades in the Cottonwood community.
Branch was elected sheriff of Wise County in 1960 after defeating Rook Ramsey by
22 votes in the Democratic Primary. He served as sheriff until 1972.
In the 1960s, the Wise County jail was located where the Wise County Sheriff’s
Department’s temporary administration office is on North State Street.
Sheriffs and their families also lived at the jail at that time.
Branch was not the first in his family to hold the office of sheriff in the
county. From 1906 to 1910, his father, John M. Branch, was sheriff and J.R.
Branch’s brother, Malcom, was sheriff from 1942 to 1947.
In addition to his law enforcement career, Branch was also a farmer and a member
of the Sycamore Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Teresa Branch.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Kenneth of Decatur; two daughters, Judy
Branch of Burlington, Vt., and Laune Pitts of Decatur; five grandchildren,
Claudio and John Branch, Berdessa Pitts Saunders, LaVon Pitts Hayes and Chad
Michael Boyd; seven great-grandchildren, Dee, Jake and Kelsey Hayes, Ben, Chase

lieutenant colonel and former commander of the Wise County Veterans Group. He
was a member of the Rhome United Methodist Church.

daughter, Diana Thorton of New Mexico; seven grandchildren, Cassy, Christopher,

He was the president of the Paradise Cemetery Association, secretary of the
Paradise Historical Society and a member of the Wise County Rock and Fossil Club
as well as a lifetime member of the Texas Teachers Association. He was a member
of the First Baptist Church of Paradise.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah Ross and Lillian Bell (Adams)
Campbell.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Roberta Campbell; a son, Kevin Campbell

She was born June 10, 1915, in Edmond, Okla., to Charles Fred and Ohla Kathryn
(Hunt) English. She married John Robert Christmas on April 10, 1948, in Oklahoma
City. Christmas and her husband helped start South Plains Junior College in
Levelland and San Jacinto Junior College in Pasadena. She established and was
the head of the food service department. She lived in Oklahoma and Texas and had
lived in Waxahachie for the past six years. She was a member of the Eastern
Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sisters.
She is survived by four children, Margaret Bailey of Slidell, La., Stanley
Christmas and wife, Judy, of North Richland Hills, Mary Ray of Bridgeport and
Jan Christmas of Waxahachie; nine grandchildren, Jim Bickerton, Cheryl Bickerton
Louviere, Kirk Bailey, Gwynn Stancil-Christmas, Jenny Ray Stilwell, Autumn Ray

He was born May 28, 1905, in Lone Rock, Iowa, to Frank and Marie (Helgens)
Dacken. He married Gladys Hall and lived in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. In 1942, Dacken
entered Moodys Bible Institute. After graduating from Wheaton College in 1946,
he graduated from McCormick Seminary in 1949. In 1976, Dacken lived in Boyd
where he served as a circuit minister for five rural Methodist churches. He did
this for 12 years until he retired at age 83. After the death of his first wife,
Dacken married Ruth Hall in 1981 and in 1988 moved to Go Ye Village where he was
a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tahlequah and served on the board
of directors for Hope House.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Esther Lindgren and husband, Jim; two
grandchildren, Sarah Fravel and husband, David, and Rebekah Davis and husband,
Mike, and six great-grandchildren, D.J. and Christine Fravel and Rachel,
Shannon, Carolyn and Abigail Davis.

in World War II and the Korean War and was discharged with the rank of captain.
He received his bachelor’s degree in geology from Texas Christian University
and in 1966, he formed The Canyon Co., which we was still operating when he
died. He also invented the Gamma Ray Core Logger.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Midland, a charter member of the
Ranchland Hills Country Club, the Petroleum Club and the West Texas Geological
Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Larry Dameron and his
brother, Jack Dameron.

A memorial service for Fred Arnold “Jack” Davenport Jr., 79, of Wichita
Falls, formerly of Decatur, will be Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at the First
Presbyterian Church, 3601 Taft St., in Wichita Falls with Dr. Isaac Butterworth
officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park.
Born Feb. 11, 1924, in Decatur to then county Judge Fred A. Davenport and Velma
Carpenter Davenport, he died Jan. 23, 2004, following complications from a
stroke.
Davenport served in the U.S. Army in Europe in World War II. After returning
home, he completed a bachelor’s degree and post graduate work at the
University of Texas. He moved to Wichita Falls in 1951 where he met and married
his wife, the former Lou Ann Karr. She preceded him in death in 2003.
Davenport enjoyed a long career in civil service and was chief of civilian
personnel at Sheppard Air Force Base until his retirement in 1983. He was an
elder in the First Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Wichita Falls
Symphony Board.
Survivors include his daughter Dr. Ann Lucas and husband, Michael, of Morro Bay,
Calif.; two grandchildren, John and Christina, also of Morro Bay; and a sister,
Mrs. Charles Hull of Denton.

Service for Johnny Wayne Deaton, 58, of Bridgeport was Thursday, April 1, at

Deaton died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, in Bridgeport.
He was born June 3, 1945, in Bridgeport and married his wife, Jackie, on July
17, 1999, in Wise County. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served in Vietnam, a
truck driver and a member of the Assembly of God Church and VFW of Wise County.
He is survived by his wife; brother, Bobby Deaton of Bridgeport; sister, Sharon
Daves of Bridgeport; five aunts, Ann Deaton, Opal Connors, Billy Jo Hollowell,
Alma Sparks and Minnie Sparks and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was born April 26, 1924, in Chico and married John Deaton on April 8, 1944.
She was a lifetime resident of Wise County and a retired licensed vocational
nurse and ambulance driver for Decatur Hospital. Deaton was a member of the
Assembly of God Church in Chico.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Cotton, Ode and Bud
Sparks and two sisters, Jettie Sanders and Rhoda Fields.
She is survived by two sons, Johnny Wayne and Bobby Deaton; daughter, Sharon
Gail Daves; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Opal
Conners and Billy Jo Hollowell.

a chef at Harvey’s Cafe in Rhome and a member of the First Baptist Church in
Rhome.
She was preceded in death by her husband and son Wayne Dickey.
She is survived by four sons, Jimmy Dickey of San Angelo, Allen Dickey of Boyd
and Tony and Raymond Dickey, both of Rhome; three daughters, Berta Gilbert of
Crowley, Jackie Malone of Roanoke and Marie Moore of Rhome; one brother, George

Born Dec. 2, 1907, in Rising Star, she retired from LTV of Grand Prairie after
20 years of service. She lived many years in Arlington before moving to Decatur
to be near family after her retirement. She was a member of various Nazarene
churches during her life.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Eleanor Nichols and three brothers,
Wade Hash, Bert Hash and Lee Hash.
She is survived by a daughter, Jerry Whiddon and husband, Bill, of Decatur;

DoByns, he grew up in Nevada. He married Betty Rich April 5, 1950, in Nevada,
Mo. He retired in 1992 as a forklift operator for Bell Helicopter in Fort Worth.
He was a member of the Oskaloosa Freewill Baptist Church and Fort Worth
Riverside Lodge No. 1194 A.F. and A.M. He enjoyed working on cars, hunting and
fishing.
He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Terry DoByns and wife, Lisa, of Columbus,
Kan., and Troy DoByns and wife, Mary, of Paradise; one brother, Addis Cecil
