Helen M. Haak, 87, of Decatur died Saturday, April 12, 2003, in Decatur.
Born Dec. 31, 1915, in Chicago, Ill., she was a retired secretary for a theatrical production company. She married William E. Haak on April 16, 1938, in Chicago. He preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, James Haak of Florida; a daughter, Joan Haak of Decatur; three brothers, Walter Alcumbrac of Decatur, Paul Hornburg of Arkansas and Ron Alcumbrac of Indiana and two sisters, Pauline Hornburg of Michigan and Sharon Tatge of Illinois.

Graveside service for Albert J. Hachtel, 92, of Newark, will be Monday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery. The Rev. Dan Hunt will officiate.
Hachtel died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, in Newark.
Born Dec. 23, 1910, in Bowie to Will and Matilda Hachtel, he married Jewell Kelley Sept. 1, 1934, in Denton. He was a retired driver for Dye Trucking and a member of the First Baptist Church in Newark.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a son, Jimmy Hachtel.
He is survived by a son, Donald and wife, Earlene, of Newark; three sisters, Clara Doyle of Slidell, Vivian Montgomery of Decatur and Flora Branch of Sycamore; four grandchildren, David and wife, Gaby, of Newark, Cynthia Rasbury and husband, Kevin, of Boyd and Lorie Stevenson and husband, Andy, of Boyd; five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Hachtel, Kevin Rasbury, Matt Rasbury, Andy Stevenson, Josh Stevenson and Caleb Stevenson.

Hale died Friday, May 30, 2003 in Haslet.
Born April 16, 1961 in Fort Worth to James Herbert and Rosie McAlister, she married Johnny Hale June 21, 1984 and worked as a postal carrier.
She was preceded in death by her father.
She is survived by her husband Johnny Hale of Haslet; mother Rosie McAlister of Nocona; two daughters, Keeley and Carson of Haslet; four brothers, Michael McAlister and wife Cindy of Alvord, Gary McAlister and wife Kathy of Springtown, Randy McAlister and wife Beth of Godley and Timbo McAlister of Nocona; two sisters, Becky Sadler and husband Guy of Nocona and Sandy McGaw of Denton and many nieces and nephews.

Service for Shirley J. Hale, 57, of Bridgeport was to be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport. The Rev. Johnny Irish was to officiate. Burial was to follow at Eastside Cemetery in Bridgeport.
Hale died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2003, in Decatur.
Born May 24, 1945, in Littlefield, she was a caregiver for home health. She married Benjamin Franklin Hale III on March 5, 1965, in Boyd. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Boyd.
She is survived by her husband; her mother and step-father, Sibyl and W. B. Arrington of Bridgeport; a son, Scotty Hale and wife Wendy of Arlington; a daughter, Traci Meekins and husband Donald of Bridgeport; two brothers, Jerry Hartsell of Fort Worth and Michael Hartsell of Bridgeport and three grandchildren, Christopher and Haley Meekins of Bridgeport and Emily Hale of Arlington.
Pallbearers were to be Christopher Meekins, Johnny Hale, Danny Hale, David Donley, Jimmy Wilson and Ronnie Shockey.

Hamer, Linnie Bruce ‘Butch’

Funeral for Linnie Bruce “Butch” Hamer, 47, of Lewisville was May 7, at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home. Burial was at Swisher Cemetery in Lake Dallas.
Born March 29, 1956, in Marietta, Okla., to Linnie Burch and Annabell Daniels Hamer, he died Saturday, May 3, 2003, at his home. He was rock hauler from Lewisville known as “Hammer Head” on the citizens’ band radio.
He is survived by his mother, Annabell Putnam of Lewisville; a daughter, Shannon Lynn Hardy and her husband Ron of Lake Dallas; a son, Scott Hamer of Lake Dallas; grandchildren, Erica Geninatti, Devin Geninatti and Kaleigh Hardy; and step-brother, Dewey Reyonalds of Caney.
He was preceded in death by a son, Leonard Charles Hamer and a grandson, Austin Geninatti.

Funeral for Lillie Fae Haney, 91, of Bridgeport was Thursday, April 17, at the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport. The Rev. Johnny Irish officiated. Burial followed at East Bridgeport Cemetery.
Haney died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, in Bridgeport.
Born March 4, 1912, in Wise County, she was a lifetime resident of Bridgeport. She was a homemaker and a retired store clerk. Haney was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bridgeport and the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She married S.A. Haney Jr. on April 28, 1934, in Decatur.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 9, 1984, and by a great-granddaughter, Shannon Hofacket.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Beard and husband Jerry of Bridgeport; a son, Edwin Haney and wife Melba of Decatur; five grandchildren, Karen Slimp and Kevin Haney of Decatur, Melanie Harris of Chico, Laurie Lange of Wichita Falls and Dan Beard of Richmond; 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Loyd Jackson, Wayne Alexander, Harold Mosley, Ronny Beard, Levert Beard and Jerry Rawle.

Memorial service for Donna Leon Berg Harbour, 60, formerly of Decatur will be Feb. 19, 10:30 a.m. at Mid-Cities Funeral Home in Haltom City. Cremated remains will be interred at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
Harbour died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, in Dallas.
She was born Nov. 23, 1942, in Decatur to Alfred Leon and Yvonne Hayes Berg.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1998. She is survived by her husband, Donald E. Harbour of Grand Prarie; father, Alfred Berg of Fort Worth; children, Joseph Atkins of White Settlement, Yvette Johnston and husband Ricky of Fort Worth and Mac Young of Blomingdale, Ohio; brother, Wendell Berg of Houston, and grandchildren, Katy, Andy and Guinevere.

Graveside funeral for Sally M. Hardee, 71, formerly of Chico was to be at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2003 at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens.
Hardee died Thursday, June 12, 2003.
Born in Chico, Mrs. Hardee moved to Pooler, Ga. in 1992. She was a member of Cuba Baptist Church in Bridgeport.
She is survived by six sons and a daughter-in-law; Robert and Anita Hardee of Eden, Ga., James Gray of Pooler and Bill, Paul, Buster and Charles Hardee of Texas; grandchildren, Robert, Jessica and Kenny and Johnny Joe Hardee, Crystal Hardee Rodriguez and Peggy Rackley all of Texas and Kathy Ann Hardee of Arkansas; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister and brothers, Lucy Hamm and Willie White of Bloomingdale, Ga. and Randy Marie White of Pooler.

Graveside service for Nadine Hardy, 83, of Newark was Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Chadwick Cemetery in Lometa. David Sheppard officiated.
Hardy died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, in Newark.
She was born June 28, 1920, in Coryell County to George and Delila Delano. She married Ethan Thomas Hardy on Oct. 10, 1939, in San Saba County. Hardy was a retired newspaper carrier for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and an active member of the Apostolic Tabernacle of Fort Worth. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and seven brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter, Anita Pope and husband, Phil; three
grandchildren, Elliot Pope and wife, Tammie, Rebecca Adelstein and husband, Tim, and Sylvia Newton and husband, Randall; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Read, Patricia Adelstein, Corinna, Allison and Elliot Pope Jr., Casey Watson, Savannah, Stage and River Spears, Seth and Colton Newton and Crystal, David and Shera Lynn Tunstall.

Service for Byron W. Harlow, 93, of Decatur was to be Saturday, April 12, at 2 p.m., at the Decatur Church of Christ. Bud Hale was to officiate. Burial was to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Harlow died Thursday, April 10, 2003, in Decatur.
Born July 27, 1909, in Rising Star, he was a retired insurance agent and a member of the Decatur Church of Christ. He married Mary Gladys Hughes on March 30, 1930, in Shackleford County. She preceded him in death July 25, 1995.
He is survived by two sons, Hollis D. Harlow of Decatur and Johnny Harlow of Possum Kingdom Lake; three sisters, Jonnie Ward of Decatur, Faye Archer of Abilene and Mary Lee Jones of Sunrise Beach; six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were to be J.D. Taylor, Ron Hess, Roy Oliver, Larry Wooldridge, Doyle Green and Clay Smith. Honorary pallbearers were to be W.B. Woodruff, R.A. Pinkerton and Ruben Pinkerton.

Service for Jessie Bastian Harrell, 91, of Paradise was June 6 at the Coker Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur. The Rev. Jack Vereen officiated. Burial was at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Harrell died Wednesday, June 4, 2003, in Decatur.
Born Nov. 3, 1911, in Decatur to John A. and Orie (Caver) Price, Harrell was a homemaker and a member of First Methodist Church in Paradise for 65 years, and the Bridgeport Quilting Club.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Fred J. Bastian; her second husband, R. B. Harrell; her parents, and her sisters, Laverne Price and Geneva Thacker.
She is survived by three sons, John Fred Bastian and wife Judi of Paradise, Richard Bastian and wife Joy of Decatur and Gerald Bastian of Paradise; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Ed Murphy, Jim Paschall, Bennie Dickinson, Ed Black, James Burns, Joe Richardson, Carl Cox, Harold Read and Truman Read.

Born Jan. 10, 1958, in Brownfield, she was a homemaker and a member of Grace Outreach Church in Chico.
Harris is survived by her daughter, Priscilla Hargin and husband Leslie of Chico; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Laura, Chloe, Caleb, Rachel and Michelle; her brother, Andy Crisp and her fiance, Robert Siefert.

Funeral for Ruth Cleo Hartsell, 93, of Arlington will be Monday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. at Moore Funeral Home in Arlington. Burial will be at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Hartsell died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in Arlington.
Born April 10, 1910, in Fife, she and her husband, Lawrence Frederick Hartsell, owned and operated family groceries in many areas including Chico. The couple also owned property there. She served as a house parent at Buckner’s Orphanage and the Methodist Home in Waco.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter, Bobbie Jean Jernigan and husband, Eugene.
She is survived by two sons, Fred Hartsell and wife, Alethea, of Fort Worth and Tom Hartsell and wife, Peg, of Nocona; a daughter, Glenda Keilstrup and husband, Duane, of Arlington; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral for Johnnie Ruth Pennington Haun, 85, of Weatherford, formerly of Rhome was April 1, at Schmitz, Floyd, Anderson Funeral Home in Denton.
Born Nov. 7, 1917, in Justin to John and Jessie Pennington, she died March 29, 2003, in Ft. Worth.
She married Arlis Haun May 13, 1939. They made their home in Rhome for almost 50 years prior to moving to Weatherford in 1991.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rhome, lifetime member of the Rhome Women’s Club and charter member of the Fairview Community Club. In recent years, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in Weatherford where she was a member of the Sweet Spirit Senior Choir and Dorcas Sunday School Class. She was also a volunteer for Weatherford’s Manna Storehouse.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Pennington and sisters, Margareet Burks and Martha High of Justin.
She is survived by her husband, Arlis Haun; daughter and son-in-law Dixie and Kenneth Henson; grandson and wife, Danny and Kalynne Henson; great-grandsons, Kale and Keaton Henson, all of Weatherford; and a brother, Hugh Pennington of Burleson.

Funeral for Floyce Tally Hawkins, 85, of Bridgeport was Friday, Feb. 7, at the First Baptist Church of Bridgeport. Dr. Bill Dye and the Rev. Bo Blakey officiated. Burial followed in East Bridgeport Cemetery.
Hawkins died Monday, Feb. 3, 2003, in Bridgeport.
Born Oct. 29, 1917, in Joy to John and Johnnie (Alford) Tally, she was a homemaker and retired co-owner of Hawkins Funeral Home. She had lived in Bridgeport since 1938. She married Bert E. Hawkins on Oct. 15, 1938, in Decatur. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bridgeport and the Bridgeport Civic Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Bobby Hawkins; a grandson, Bert Hawkins and a brother, Hoyt Tally.
She is survived by a daughter, Diane Hawkins Loper and husband Bennie of Germantown, Tenn.; a sister, Ruth Cox of Dallas; two sisters-in-law, Idell Hawkins of Jacksboro and Margaret Williamson of Decatur; five grandchildren, Rob Hawkins and wife Von of Bridgeport, Brant Hawkins and wife Stacey of Bridgeport, Lori Millar and husband David of Germantown, Tenn., Bennie Loper II and wife Kim of Dallas, Brook Loper and wife Marissa of Collierville, Tenn., and eight great-grandchildren, Trey, Chase, Zack, Tiffany, Raby, Barton, Piper and Braeden.

Born May 24, 1935, in Cardington, Ohio, he died Sunday, March 30, 2003, in Decatur.
He was the owner of Dallas Heimlich Custom Cabinets.
He is survived by a daughter, Pam Davis and her friend James Mikoleit; a son, Leroy Heimlich and wife Shelly; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne and Joe Heimlich; and a sister, Ida Lewis.

Funeral for Shirley Sue Helms, 58, of Denton was May 27 at the DeBerry Funeral Chapel in Denton. Burial followed at Fairview Cemetery in Wise County.
Helms died Saturday, May 24, 2003 at her residence.
Born Oct. 10, 1944 in Montague County to Frances Marion and Beulah Jones Frazier, she married Jimmy Helms in Bowie on June 14, 1964.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sons, Jimmy Victor Helms and Cody Wayne Helms.
She is survived by two daughters, Julie and her husband Carlos Crenshaw of Denton and Vickie and her husband Larry Gordon of Rockwall; a son, Scotty Helms and wife Robin of Dallas; two sisters, Reba Grottie of Bowie and Dorothy Huddleston of Forestburg; a brother, Jim Frazier of Krum and five grandchildren.

Funeral for Calvin E. Helton, 79, of Fort Worth will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2003, at University Church of Christ in Fort Worth. Jim Smith and Curtis Ramey will officiate. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at Paradise Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Shannon North Funeral Chapel in Fort Worth.
Helton died Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2003, in Fort Worth.
Born March 4, 1924, in Hugo, Okla., he was a retired machinist with General Dynamics. He served in the Army and had been a peanut farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pansy Helton, and a brother, Lloyd Helton.
He is survived by a son, Terry Helton and wife, Dorene, of Bethlehem, Pa.; a daughter, Vickie Bowers and husband, Monty, of Forth Worth; a grandson, Zachary, of Bethlehem, Pa.; a brother, John Helton and wife, Georgie, of Chesterfield, Calif., and several nieces and nephews.

A former resident of Decatur, Henson died Saturday, May 3, 2003, in Fort Worth.
Born Nov. 18, 1935, in Decatur to Claude and Lela Henson, he was retired from the International Brotherhood of Teamsters.
Henson was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his mother, Lela Henson of River Oaks; two sons, John Randy Henson and his wife Andrea of Fort Worth and Patrick Henson of Irving; two brothers, Ed Henson and his wife Judy of Decatur and Jerry Henson of River Oaks; one sister, Claudette Harrell of Newark; two grandchildren, John Henson and wife Jennifer and Aaron Henson, all of Kerens; three great-grandchildren, Jessica Henson, Justin Henson and Jamie Henson, all of Kerens; and numerous nephews and nieces.

Born March 13, 1959, in Colorado City, Ricardo was a construction worker. He married Lanie Clark Sept. 10, 1999, in Bridgeport.

Herring died Saturday, March 15, 2003, near Sheridan, Ark, in a plane crash that also killed his father, Lewis Allen Herring Sr.
Born Jan. 14, 1971, in Mullins, S.C., he was a mechanic for Delta Airlines and a Marine veteran. He married Tina Mari Wilcher Sept. 30, 2000, in Houston.
He is survived by his wife; his mother, Janet Street of Boone, N.C. and his grandparents, Jackie Gaddy of Mullins, Edwin and Betty Hayes of Florence, S.C. and Dale Hayes of Concord, N.C.

Born Dec. 21, 1984, in Denton to John and Theresa Hobbs, she graduated from Slidell High School on May 23, 2003. She was a lifetime resident of Wise County and a student.
She was preceded in death by two grandmothers, Barbara Long and Melba Joyce Hobbs, and step-grandmother Faye Long.
She is survived by her parents John and Theresa Hobbs of Bridgeport; a sister, Emily Hobbs; a brother Jarrett Hobbs; grandparents, Harold Long of Chico and Sherman and Kathy Hobbs of Greenwood; seven aunts, nine uncles and numerous cousins and friends.

Born Feb. 16, 1913, in Gomez, he was retired from the Civil Service. He married Salomae Steen on March 25, 1939, in Lubbock and was a member of First Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Forrest S. Holgate of Grand Junction, Colo. and Stanley H. Holgate of Fayetteville, N.C.; one daughter, Elizabeth Young of Decatur; one sister, Kathrin Hamilton of Brownfield; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Holland, Lloyd Emerson

Graveside service for Lloyd Emerson Holland, 88, of Boyd was to be Wednesday, April 9, at 3:30 p.m. at Keeter Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Richardson was to officiate.
Holland died Sunday, April 6, 2003, in Boyd.
Born Oct. 9, 1914, in Pottsboro, he graduated from Denison High School and attended Poly Tech in Los Angeles, Calif. In 1942, while working for General Motors in Los Angeles, he entered the military service and became a member of the Fifth Armored Division serving in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He served in seven campaigns, receiving several medals including five Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.
He married the former Jonivee Bynum on Nov. 7, 1945, in San Antonio. The couple moved to Tulia in 1959 where they managed Gusler Products for more than 20 years. He served as a Boy Scout leader for many years and was the troop’s liason for the Kiwanis Club. The couple operated Swisher Ambulance Service in Tulia until their retirement in 1988. They moved to Boyd in 1994. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Boyd.
He is survived by two sons, Charles E. Holland and wife Debbie of Hutto and Billy Holland and wife Melinda of Quanah; one daughter, D’Ann Johnson and husband Mark of Boyd; three granddaughters, Crimson Dawnivee Jimenez and husband Matt of Austin, Kristen Holland of Hutto and Rachel Holland of Quanah; three grandsons, Jonathan Johnson of Boyd, Kyle Johnson of Austin and Nathan Holland of Quanah; one great-granddaughter, Maya Jimenez of Austin; one brother, Frank Holland of Salem, Ore.; one sister, Marjorie Heironimus of Trinity and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were to be Nathan Holland, Jonathan Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Ryan Bialis, Matthew Jimenez, Tom Bialis, Gerald McClanahan, Steve Heironimus, Clarke Heironimus and Robert Montgomery.
A final tribute with military honors was presented by the Wise County Veterans Group honor guard.

Holt died Friday, March 14, 2003, in Decatur.
Born Oct. 26, 1912, in Wilson Prairie, she was a retired school teacher and a lifetime resident of Wise County. She was a member of the Church of Christ and past member of the Bridgeport Women’s Club and Retired Teachers Association She married Woodrow Cheves in 1931 and Alvin Holt in 1950. Both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Dalton, Don and Danny and one sister, Christine.
She is survived by three sons, Ron L. Cheves and wife Pat of Humble, Harold Cheves and wife Janice of Albuquerque, N.M. and James “Sam” Cheves and wife Allene of Bridgeport; a stepdaughter, Alva Jewel Bordner and husband Frank of Bridgeport; four grandsons, Mike Cheves of Haltom City, Scott Cheves of Bridgeport, Phil Cheves of Albuquerque and Brad Cheves of Westlake Village, Calif.; three granddaughters, Lee Ann Lukianuk of Lee, N.H., Susan Stavala of Kingswood and Melinda Manoushagian of Hurst; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Nell Allen of Porterville, Calif. and a special friend, Faye Coffman of Bridgeport.

Hopson, D.F. ‘Hoppy’

Funeral for D.F. Hoppy Hopson, 84, of Alvord will be Thursday, April 24, at 1 p.m. at Coker Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation was to be Wednesday, April 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Hopson died Sunday, April 20, 2003, in Alvord.
Born Feb. 16, 1919, in rural Fannin County to Bob and Mina Hopson, he was a professional dog trainer. Many of his craftsmanship skills were learned early in his career in the aircraft industry. He married Irene Magness in 1940.
He was a major supporter and competitor in the National Bird Hunters Association (NBHA), winning such titles as the National Open Championship, The National Futurity, The National Open Invitational and the Open Shooting Dog Championship. This resulted in his being inducted into the NBHA Hall of Fame as well as the Texas Field Trial Hall of Fame.
He is survived by his wife; a son, Rob Hopson; a daughter, Susan Ervin; a sister, Jewell Harris and five grandchildren, Rhonda Torsiello, Ray Hopson, Leslie Carpenter, Nick Ervin and Angie Ervin.

Hufhines died Friday, Oct. 31, 2003, in Fort Worth.
Born Aug. 25, 1940, in Decatur to James Daniel and Walcie Jones Jobe, she married James “J.B.” Hufhines on July 10, 1956. She was retired from Corning Cable Company where she worked as a telephone assembler. She had lived in the Boyd area since 1975 and was a Baptist, an active bowler for more than 40 years and a member of the Crowley Moose Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990 and a sister, Sylvia Johnson.
She is survived by a son, James Hufhines of Fort Worth; three daughters, Becky Vess and husband Jerry, Shirley McConnell and husband, Clay, and Sandy Worley and husband, Jeff, all of Boyd; one brother, Kenneth “Cowboy” Jobe and wife, Frankie, of Eagle Lake; one sister, Jody Clement, and husband, Johnny, of Crowley and six grandchildren, Jerry, Amy, Jake, Kyle, Jonathan and Tiffany.

Born Aug. 25, 1928, in San Diego, Calif., he died Saturday, March 29, 2003, in his North Richland Hills home.
He owned and operated John Jeffrey Roofing Company in Fort Worth for more than 45 years. He had been involved with the Masonic Lodge and the Moslah Shrine. In recent years, he was adopted by the Austin/Kidd families and enjoyed gardening, yard work and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of North Richland Hills Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by his wife, Reba and his son, James, he is survived by a sister, three sons, two daughters, 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Born April 3, 1935, in Daingerfield, she was a retired waitress who had lived in the Chico community since the late 1950s. She married Teddy Johnson on May 29, 1965, in Chico. She was a member of the Church of Christ of Chico.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Rex Johnson of Chico; a daughter, Sheliah Potter of Madisonville, Tenn.; three brothers, Olen Vaughn of Daingerfield, Donald Vaughn of Midlothian and Neil Vaughn of Daingerfield; five sisters, Verna Lee Brantley of Daingerfield, Dorothy Lanier of Daingerfield, Patsy Brown of Longview, Zeldia Eaton of LaPorte and Bettie Ellis of Tyler; a granddaughter, Shelley Cearley of Chico; a special ‘grandson’ Wesley Moody and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Russell Johnson, Rusty Johnson, Cody Johnson, Adam Johnson, Jeff Johnson and Jason Johnson.

She was born March 21, 1920, in Milwaukee to Eugene and Gertrude Frasier Chloupek and married Lewis P. Jones on Aug. 29, 1942. She was a homemaker and a graduate of Purdue University.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis, and a son, James “Larry” Jones.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Born Feb. 18, 1916, to Glenn and Viola (Richburg) Hawk in Paradise, she died Sept. 4, 2003, in Fort Worth.
She married William David Jones on June 2, 1934, in Warika, Okla. Together they worked their farm until moving to Waxahachie for his job in soil conservation. She then worked at Kresky selling candy and peanuts. His work later took them to Bowie and Brownwood. They spent their retirement years in Granbury and Fort Worth. Mr. Jones died in 1985.
Jones was a long-time member of the First United Methodist Church of Paradise but also attended the Baptist Church in Tolar the last six months of her life.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Maxine Hawk,.
She is survived by two sons, Roy Jones and his wife Ann and Harold Jones and his wife Pam, all of Paradise; two daughters, Peggy Phillips and her husband Harry of Arlington and Lydia Bridier and her husband John of Tolar; seven grandchildren, David and Tim Phillips, Tonya, Brad and Logan Jones and Kyle and Emily Jones; great-grandchildren, Micheal and Benjamin Phillips, Brian and Ashley Phillips, Jared and Jessica Gilliam and Hunter Jones; and two sisters, Alma Ruth Harms of Springtown and Etheline “Tootsie” Read of Houston.

Kaker, Charles ‘Chock’ Franklin

Service for Charles “Chock” Franklin Kaker, 66, of Bridgeport, a retired dairy farmer and rancher was to be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, at First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport, with the Rev. Johnny Irish officiating. Burial was to be at East Bridgeport Cemetery.
He died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at his home, after a nine-year battle with cancer.
Born in Bridgeport Feb. 9, 1937, to Weldon Frank and Carrie May Hartsell Kaker, he lived in Bridgeport all his life. He graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1955 and attended North Texas State University for two years. He married the former Ann Dawson, whom he had met at a country dance in Chico in 1960, on March 31, 1961, in Weatherford.
In his early years he worked on the family dairy farm and ranch, did some work in the oilfields and enjoyed calf roping at the rodeos. He was a dairyman for more than 25 years and a rancher for more than 40 years.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a former member of the National Guard, a charter member and former director of the Bridgeport Country Club, a member of BCC Men’s Golf Association and the Senior Oil Man’s Golf Association. After retirement, he enjoyed playing golf and snow skiing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, J.C. Dawson.
He is survived by his wife Ann; son, Steven Frank Kaker and wife Susan of Keller; daughter, Sharon Lin Blake and husband Dan of Ponder; grandchildren, Charles Brandon Kaker, Jayci Danielle Blake, Kelcie Sue Kaker and Jared Eldridge Blake; sister, Darlene Bean of Bridgeport; mother-in-law, Willa Mae Dawson of Decatur; two nieces and a nephew.

King died Monday, February 10, 2003, in Decatur.
For years, King and her late husband George King, hosted spectacular Christmas light displays at their home north of Decatur. After his death the mammoth displays were shown at the home of Hollis and Sue Jones near Decatur Golf Club and many were later given to the city.
King was the long-time owner of Fashion Coiffures, a beauty shop in Decatur. After she retired from her own shop, she worked at Patti’s Hair Parlor in Decatur.
She is survived by a son, Charlie Young of Highland Village; three sisters, Annis Power of Houston, Wanda Reed of Fort Worth and Ruth Armstrong of California; six grandchildren and seven great- grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sue Swaim of Decatur.

Born to Alice (Henderson) and Lonnie “Jabo” Larry Jr. in Decatur on March 1, 1950, she died May 10, 2003, in Tulsa, Okla.
After graduating from Decatur High School, she attended Cook County College in Gainesville for two years.
One of the first African Americans to work in downtown Decatur, she was a communications officer for the Sheriff’s Department. She later worked for Victor’s assembling welding torches.
She married Roscoe “R.C.” Knight in Fort Smith, Ark., on Sept. 23, 1977, and moved to Ardmore, Okla., where she worked for the police department. In 1980 they moved to Wagoner, where she worked for the Wagoner County Sheriff’s Department and the city.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Roscoe C. Knight Jr.

Leggett died Thursday, July 3, 2003, in Decatur.
She was born on May 16, 1928, in Fletcher, Okla., and married Thomas S. Leggett on June 16, 1971, in McKinney. Leggett was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by one great-grandchild, Melisa.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas; son, Larry Milligan of Henderson; daughter, Sandy Hollis of Decatur; three brothers, Buck, Curly and Johnny Young, all of Decatur; grandchildren, Dianna Tiller, Eddie Ward, Missy York, Kara Dungo and Brandon Milligan and nine great-grandchildren, Lauren, Drew, Tamara, Dakota, Hunter, Derick, Allie, Tanner and Madison.

Born May 31, 1913, in Duncan, Okla., she was a retired restaurant owner. She married M.A. Lester in 1928 in Comanche, Okla. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Wendell M. Lester of Decatur and Edwin H. (Skippy) Lester of Burneyville, Okla.; a daughter, Darlene Roper of Fredericksburg; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral for Marvin Dean Lewis, 66, of Sunset was to be Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 10 a.m. at the Burden Baptist Church in Kansas. Military interment rites will follow at Burden Cemetery.
Lewis died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003, in Dallas.
Born Aug. 9, 1937, in Wilmot, Kan., to Emory and Dorothy Lucile (Adkins) Lewis, he graduated from Burden Public Schools in 1956. On May 18, 1956, he married Eva Marie Stewart at Burden Baptist Church. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was awarded a certificate of recognition from the U.S. Air Force for his performance of outstanding service to his country. In 1965, he began a full-time commercial career in flying. In 1972, the couple moved to Sunset and bought land which would become the Astronomy Ranch. He was a member of the American Brittany Club, the American Simmental Association and Texas Cattle Raising Association and BISC.
He is survived by his wife; his mother, Dorothy Lewis of Winfield, Kan.; two brothers, Emory Lewis of Burden and Donald Lewis of Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Virginia Atkins of Burden and Marilyn Plain of Winfield; 23 nieces and nephews; 17 great-nieces and nephews and five step-great nieces and nephews.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Boyd, a retired teacher’s aide for Boyd ISD and an active member of the Boyd Band Booster Club.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Bobbie Ann Baker and Faye Rochelle and a granddaughter, Andrya Hobbs.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Clarice Kemp.

Lovejoy died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003, in Fort Worth.
Born Aug. 7, 1912, in Wise County, he was a lifetime resident of Wise County. He was a retired maintenance supervisor for LeFarge Corp. in Chico, and he was a U. S. Army veteran serving in World War II. He was a member of the Morris Memorial United Methodist Church of Chico. He married Maggie Lena Chambers on May 31, 1935, in Wise County.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years in October 1998.
He is survived by three daughters, Aneta Jane Nichols and husband Marcus of Fort Worth, Sue Black and husband Sam of Chico and Alice Solis and husband Greg of Rifle, Colo.; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was an engineer with Texas Instruments and an investor in real estate. He had retired to his ranch in Alvord.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Dow Luther in 1962; a daughter, Colleen; a brother, George Moss and a sister, Edna Reynolds.

Lyle, John Emett
1910-2003
John Emmett Lyle, 93, a former Texas congressman and state representative, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003. Burial was to be Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at the Texas State Cemetery in Austin.
Born Sept. 4, 1910, in Wise County, he served as a second lieutenant in the Army from 1942 to 1944 during World War II.
He graduated from Wichita Falls and later attended the University of Texas at Austin and the night school branch of the Houston Law School. While attending the university, he worked as a night watchman in the basement of the state Capitol. In 1934, he moved to Corpus Christi and began practicing law. Five years later, he was elected to the state Legislature, representing a district comprised of Nueces, Duvall and Jim Wells counties. During his service in the Army, Lyle experienced combat in North Africa, Malta, Sicily and Italy. He was awarded a Purple Heart in the Anzio campaign. In 1944, he was elected to Congress, representing the 14th District of Texas. He served five terms and then returned to South Texas to continue his law practice. In 1963, he moved to Houston.
Lyle served on presidential commissions under Presidents John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson and Ronald Reagan. In 1994, he was appointed by President Bill Clinton to the federal council on aging. On Oct. 21, he was appointed by Gov. Rick Perry to the Texas State Cemetery Committee.
In addition, he was a longtime board member at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston and was active in the Texas State Bar Association.
Lyle is survived by his wife, Nadine, a niece and nephew, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She married Orval N. Mann Jan. 17, 1942, in Paradise and was a homemaker and a Jehovah’s Witness.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Orval N. Mann; daughters, Orvella Horton and husband, Micheal, and Ida Nell Robertson and husband, Mike; son, Rondal Mann and wife, Sue; grandchildren, Brandon, Chelsea, Chandra and Larissa; great-granddaughter, Kristin; sisters, Minnie Cook and Dollie Powers and brother, Winford Trammell.

Graveside service for Leona Collins Maratea, 88, of Wichita Falls will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Lone Star Cemetery in Wise County.
Maratea died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2003.
She was born Nov. 30, 1914, in Decatur. She retired from the Singer Sewing Machine Co. and was a member of the Lady Elks.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Collins, in 1980 and her second husband, Anthony Maratea, in 1998.
She is survived by her daughter, Dolores Wright of Wichita Falls; sons, Ronald Collins and wife, Terry, of San Marcos and Michael Collins and wife, Carol, of Wichita Falls; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Gertrude Taggert of Decatur and many nieces and nephews.

Service for Janet Hufhines Marburger, 82, of Chico was Friday, June 27, at the Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Bridgeport. The Rev. James Arrington officiated. Burial followed at Chico Cemetery.
Marburger died Sunday, June 22, 2003, in Decatur.
She was born on Feb. 12, 1921, in Jack County and married Monroe Marburger on Dec. 20, 1940, in Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe.
She is survived by her son, Milton Marburger and wife Janie of Albuquerque, N.M.; a daughter, Monette Tawbush and husband Joe of Chico; her sister Maxann Hancock of Abilene; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Monroe Marburger, Ashley Marburger, Scott Huckabee and Joe Tawbush.

Graveside service for Peggy Martin, 62, of Greeley, Colo., formerly of Forestburg, was to be Saturday, Dec. 6, at 2 p.m. at Hardy Cemetery in Forestburg.
Martin died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003, in Greeley.
She was born July 12, 1941, in Sanger to Audie Monroe and Eloise (Harris) Evans. Martin grew up in Forestburg and moved to Sterling, Colo., in 1969. She moved to Fort Worth in 1980, and after she became ill, she moved back to Greeley to be near her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by four sons, James Winters of Roggen, Colo., Michael Winters of Sterling, Bill Winters of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Dale Martin of Fort Worth; daughter, Kim Winters of Bogata; brother, Lynn Underwood of Queen Creek, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and three daughters-in-law.

Martin died Monday, Aug. 4, 2003, in Paradise.
He was born Nov. 21, 1945, in Bowie to Verey and Margaret Martin. He married Nora Jean Kimmons on Nov. 24, 1969, in Fort Worth. He was a Marine veteran and a graduate of Texas Wesleyan University.

Funeral service for Blaza Garcia Martinez, 48, of Bridgeport was to be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Bridgeport. The Rev. Gil Pansza was to officiate. Burial was to be at East Bridgeport Cemetery.
Born April 10, 1955, to Lorenzo and Guadalupe Gonzales Garcia in Mexico, she was a lifetime resident of Bridgeport. She married Humberto Martinez in 1992 and worked as a cook for the Methodist Camp of Bridgeport.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Eddie Cortez and Daniel Cortez and wife, Aliza; four brothers, Juan, Arnold, Oscar and Juan Angel Garcia; two sisters, Amparo Barrera and Jovita Roman and grandchildren Cameron and Casey.

Born Feb. 18, 1921, in Oklahoma, she died Monday, March 10, 2003, in Bridgeport.
She was a Baptist and retired as an LVN. She married Fernando Martinez Sept. 9, 1949, in Fort Worth and had lived in Bridgeport since that time.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1985; her son, Leonard Eugene Silletti; granddaughter, Debra Leann Silletti; and brother, Jack Rottger.
She is survived by a daughter, Alice Coleman and her husband, Michael of Chico; son, Anthony Silletti and his wife Lupe of Bridgeport; eight grandchildren, Steven and Curtis Stilletti of Bridgeport, Jeffrey Sillletti of Decatur, Richard Silletti of Fort Worth, Diane Taylor of Bridgeport and Eugene, Anthony and Tammie Silletti, all of Chico; 13 great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law Connie Silletti of Bridgeport.

Matzinger died Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, in Paradise.
Born Aug. 13, 1922, in Paradise, to Irv. F. and Mary (Meadows) Matzinger, he was a salesman for Olmsted Kirk Paper Co. for 26 years.
He also purchased Ideal Printers, which he operated until his retirement. He served three years in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He married Mildred Stanfield of Bridgeport in 1942. He was also a member of the Decatur Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Alan Matzinger and Dan Matzinger and wife Leah Nan and three granddaughters, Melissa Ann, Savannah Leigh and Joni Mae.
Pallbearers were D.W. McDonald, Charles Ferguson, Ray Cook, Sam Cook, Gib Lewis and Lee Seeton.

Memorial service for Pike McCasland, 60, of Midland was to be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31 at the First Baptist Church Chapel in Midland. The Rev. Bob Hopkins was to officiate.
McCasland was the brother of Gail Seerey of Bridgeport, and he taught school in Paradise for five years.
He died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, in Midland.
Born Dec. 5, 1942, in Center, he attended many schools in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Illinois, and he graduated from high school in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
