Graveside service was Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Sunset Cemetery for Carrol Floyd “Crick” Able, 88, of Sunset. The Rev. Doyle Wade officiated.
Able died Monday, Oct. 23, 2000, in Decatur.
Born May 7, 1912, in Park Springs, he was a retired railroad switchman for the Rock Island Railroad and a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include a daughter, Janice K. Armstrong and her husband Joe, of Sunset; three grandsons, Joey Armstrong of Houston, J. Lee Armstrong of Wichita Falls and Jarrett Armstrong of Keller; a granddaughter, Robin Kuntz of Houston; and a brother, Royce Able of Fort Worth. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Acker, Maggie Imogene
1911-2000
Graveside service for Maggie Imogene Acker, 88, of Kaufman was to be Wednesday, Aug. 2 at 11:30 a.m. at the Boyd Cemetery. The Rev. Earl W. Aldridge of Gainesville and the Rev. Charles Goady of DeSoto were to officiate.
Acker died July 30, 2000, in Kaufman.
Born Nov. 10, 1911, in Ben Wheeler, she married David Ernest Acker on Oct. 17, 1927. She was a supportive pastor’s wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, Henry and Bessie Tatum.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty and husband Billy Eugene Hall of Mesquite; two grandsons, David Ernest Hall and wife Nancy of Dallas and Britton Lee Hall and wife Angie of Mesquite; seven great-grandchildren, Billy John and Tracy of Bedford, Olivia and Garrison of Dallas, and Robert, Brittany and David of Mesquite; three brothers and two sisters.

Acola, Marian Woody

Graveside service for Marian Woody Acola, 94, of Decatur was Monday, Feb. 7, at the Deep Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Rusty Hedges officiated.
Acola died Feb. 5, 2000 in Decatur.
Born Aug. 26, 1905 in the Deep Creek Community of Wise County, Acola was married to the late Sam Acola in 1927 in Dallas. She was the granddaughter of Sam Woody, an early settler of Wise County.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Sam Woody and Betty Acola of Fort Worth; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn Acola and Richard Phelps of Conroe and Elizabeth and Harold Clevenger of Dallas; two grandchildren, Maxine Acola of Houston and Gary Phelps of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two great-grandchildren.

Adams, Jeff
1965-2000
Service for Jeff Adams, 34, of Upton County, was Thursday, May 4, at the First United Methodist Church in Crane. Joe Bullock and Craig and Raquel Mull officiated. Burial followed at Crane County Cemetery.
Adams died Monday, May 1, 2000, at his home.
Born May 27, 1965, in Midland, he was a lifetime resident of Midland and Upton counties.
He was a graduate of Crane High School and earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Angelo State University. He taught in the Crane and Midland school districts.
He is survived by his parents, Neal and Clair Adams of Upton County; two sisters, Stephanie and husband Kevin James of O’Donnell and Anne Marie and husband Daryl Aubin of New Braunfels; a brother, David and wife Pamela Adams of Alvord; three nieces, Menda James and Ashley James of O’Donnell, Callie Aubin of New Braunfels; three nephews, Case Aubin of New Braunfels, Aaron James of O’Donnell and Samuel Dalton Adams of Alvord and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great aunts and great uncles.

Albin, Vessie Irene Stockton

Graveside service for Vessie Irene Stockton Albin, 90, of Decatur was Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, in the Hopewell Cemetery. Rev. Jerry Miller officiated.
Albin died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000 in Decatur.
Born June 12, 1910, in Alvord, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne and J.C. Stockton, both of Decatur; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Alexander, Dava Lou

Funeral for Dava Lou Alexander, 65, of Bridgeport, was Tuesday, Aug. 22, at the First Baptist Church in Olney. The Rev. Bill Higgins, pastor of the Bible Baptist Church in Bridgeport and the Rev. Dennis Garner of Gunter officiated. Burial followed at Restland Cemetery.
Alexander died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2000, in Decatur.
Born Feb. 7, 1935, in Skellytown, she married Jack Alexander on June 23, 1951. She was a retired nurses aid having worked for Hamilton Hospital and Olney Nursing Center. She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church in Bridgeport. She moved to Bridgeport in 1996 from Olney.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Alexander; her father, Clyde Tiffany and a brother, Darrell Tiffany.
Survivors include a son, Mike of Electra; a daughter, Brenda Byers of Bridgeport; her mother, Telva Tiffany of McKinney and four grandchildren, Chrissy and Dianne Byers of Bridgeport and Kevin and Jennifer Alexander of Electra.

Allen, Janice

Service for Janice Allen, 65, of Bridgeport was Wednesday, May 17, at Pleasant View Baptist Church. Rev. Warren Crothers officiated. Burial followed at Thomas Cemetery in Bridgeport.
Allen died Monday, May 15, 2000, in Fort Worth.
Born Dec. 9, 1934, in McLean, she lived in Bridgeport 34 years. She was a retired secretary for Moore’s Business Forms in Denton. She married Billy Ray Allen on July 30, 1966, in Denton. He preceded her in death on July 24, 1999.
She is survived by her parents, Walter and Lillian Shirley; her son, Richard Ooten and wife Sharlene; her daughters, Kathy Morrow and husband Joe, Sandy Bailey and husband Rick and Tawana Cothran and husband Rick; her sisters, Carol Embry and husband Eugene and Kay Draughon; 10 grandchildren, Tiffaney, Brandey, Wes, Chad, Lori, Ryan, Mara, Garrett, Tommy and Tanner; and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Ryan Ooten, Garrett Reeves, Tanner Reeves, Tommy Reeves, Chad Morow and Wes Bailey.

Allen, Jasper Clay

Service for Jasper Clay Allen, 87, of Decatur was to be Wednesday, May 10, at 2 p.m. at the Coker Funeral Home Chapel. Warren Crothers was to preside, with the assistance of Eddie Johnson. Burial was to follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
Allen died May 7, 2000, in Decatur.
He was born on Nov. 14, 1912, in Denison.
Allen was the owner of a freight delivery service. He married the late Alma Louise England Robinson Allen on Oct. 15, 1943, in Marietta, Okla. He served in the Army Air Corps. Allen was preceded in death by a brother, LeRoy Allen and a sister, Julia Miles.
He is survived by a stepson and daughter-in-law, Frank and Naida Robinson of Decatur; one brother, Earl Allen of Childress; one sister, Bernice Clark of Decatur; one step-grandchild; one step-great-grandchild; four step-great great-granchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Anderson, Curtis Buchanan

Funeral service for Curtis Buchanan Anderson, 79, of Alvord was to be Saturday, July 1, at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Alvord. Burial was to follow at Alvord Cemetery. Bill Cleveland was to officiate.
Anderson died June 29, 2000, in Alvord.
Born May 12, 1921, in Bridgeport, he was a Navy veteran and a member of the First Baptist Church in Alvord. He married Mary Ann “Pid” Shaunty in Weatherford in 1943. He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Craig Anderson.
Survivors include his wife of Alvord; one daughter, Sandra Ann Thompson of Alvord; one sister, Faye Sweet of Amarillo; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Pallbearers were to be Ben Peace, Joe Campos, Danny Bramlitt, Tim Shaunty, James D. Anderson, Tommy Sweet, Dan Stinnett and Don Pierce.

Anderson, Ken

Service for Ken Anderson, 68, of Alvord was to be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 16 at the First Baptist Church of Alvord. Burial was to follow at Alvord Cemetery.
Anderson died Feb. 13, 2000, in Decatur.
Born Oct. 3, 1931, in Clovis, N.M., Anderson was a welder and a foreman of a construction company. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Alvord and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He married Beverly Gayle Miller on July 29, 1954, in El Paso. Anderson was also a member of the El Paso Masonic Lodge #130 AF and AM, and he was a member of the El Maida Temple and York Rite.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Alvord; his step-father, Eugene Walls of El Paso; two sons, Timothy Ray Anderson of Alvord and Terry Ray Anderson of Fort Worth; a daughter, Mitzee Carol Porter of Mulege, Mexico; a sister, Shirley Buie of Alvord; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Anderson, Patsy Faye

Graveside service for Patsy Faye Anderson, 54, of Sunset was to be Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the Cumby Cemetery in Wise County.
Anderson died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in Decatur.
She was born Oct. 8, 1945, in Maypearl.
Survivors include her husband, Bill of Sunset; a son, Duke Pritchard, of Fort Worth; a daughter, Kristi Peat, of Nashville. Tenn.; a brother, Bob Smith, of Arlington; and six grandchildren.

Anderson, Robert William Irvin

Born Sept. 10, 1979, in Carlsbad, N.M., Anderson was a member of the Rhome First Baptist Church and was in the U.S. Army.

Graveside service for Clayton Michael Armstrong II was to be Saturday July 8, at 10 a.m. at West Bridgeport Cemetery with Michael Greenwood officiating.
Armstrong was born and died July 6, 2000.
The newborn is survived by his parents Clayton and Brandi Armstrong, a sister Brittany Armstrong, grandparents Lee and Glenda Armstrong, Sherri Strickland, Billy Cansler, great-grandparents Imogene Roe and Henry Roe and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Armstrong, Mary Nell Stanley

Funeral was Tuesday in the Cottondale Baptist Church for Mary Nell Stanley Armstrong, 69, of Bridgeport. Burial was in the Cottondale Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Pugh officiated.
Armstrong died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, in Decatur.
Born April 20, 1931, in Wink, she was a 1949 graduate of Wink High School and was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Boyd. She married Wade Armstrong March 3, 1951, in Lovington, New Mexico.
Survivors include her husband, Wade E. Armstrong; a son, Billy Neil Armstrong and his wife Janet; a daughter, Marsha Lee Carpenter and her husband Deaun; three grandchildren, Scott Eric and Brent Allen Carpenter and Allysa Diane Armstrong; two sisters, Mattie Evelyn Reeves and Jewel Holmes and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Scott Carpenter, Mike Smith, Brent Carpenter, Blake Hensley, David Camp and Carlton Mann.

Artmier, Mildred Louise

Service for Mildred Louise Artmier, 69, of Boyd was Monday, April 3, at the Christian-Hawkins Funeral Chapel in Boyd. The Rev. Jimmy Withers officiated and burial followed at Hogg Branch Cemetery in Wise County.
Artmier died March 30, 2000, in Decatur.
Born Oct. 13, 1930, in Paris, Artmier was a retired waitress and had worked in food service. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother.
Survivors include her mother, Katherine Prunty; five sons and four daughters-in-law, Frank and Tammy Traylor, Tommy and Martha Traylor, Gary and Sonya Traylor, Sammy Traylor and Ronnie and Mary Linville; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Julia and Coy Belt; Judy and Larry McGahey, Rita Smith and Diane and Frank Bradbury; five brothers; three sisters; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Ashworth, Loval Evalena

Service for Loval Evalena Ashworth, 92, of Alvord was Monday, April 10, at the Coker Funeral Home Chapel in Decatur. Burial followed at the Alvord Cemetery in Alvord.
Ashworth died on April 8, 2000, in Decatur. She was born on Aug. 29, 1907, in Sunset.
Ashworth was retired. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was married to the late Cloyd Leander Ashworth in Alvord in 1926.
She is survived by two sons, Earl Ashworth of Porter and Leon Ashworth of Snyder; four daughters, Lavonia Sorrell of Alvord, Lavorn Cunningham of Mineral Wells, Louise Ford of Graham and Sue Barton of Minden, La.; three sisters, Nevela Echols of Garland, Ozema Beaver and Jewell Dinnard of Waurika, Okla.; 20 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Charles Ford, Bill Sorrell, Charles Barton, Stacy Bassinger, Larry Bradshaw, Ray Williams, Tony Kelly and Ray Cunningham.

Athey, Cecil Clyde

Funeral service for Cecil Clyde Athey, 75, of Boyd was July 25 at Turrentine Jackson-Morrow Chapel in McKinney. Burial followed at Ridgeview Memorial Park.
Athey died July 23, 2000, in Decatur.
Born Jan. 27, 1925, in McKinney, he married Gracie Louise Kindle on Aug. 7, 1943, in McKinney. He was employed by Bell Helicopter as a shear operator. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Wise County Antique Auto Club and Walnut Creek Baptist Church in Reno. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and four brothers.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Athey of Boyd; a son, Don Athey and wife Kitsy of Boyd; and a grandson, Daniel Athey of Boyd.

Autry, Cristi Sharon
1967-2000
Service for Cristi Sharon Autry, 32, of Corinth, was to be Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, (get time) at the First Baptist Church of Corinth. Burial was to follow at the Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton.
Autry died Jan. 5, 2000, at a Dallas hospital.
Born July 31, 1967, in Bryan to Gaylon and Frieda Michael, she graduated from Madisonville High School and attended Sam Houston State University where she was a membr of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She married Lance Scott Autry on June 3, 1989, in Midway. She was a homemaker and a member of the Elwood Baptist Church in Midway.
She is survived by her husband, Lance of Corinth and formerly of Decatur; a daughter, Madison Emil Autry of Corinth; a son, Payten Bryce Autry of Corinth; her parents, Gaylon and Frieda Michael of Madisonville and a sister, Penni Amber Michael of Houston.

Bailey, Ray V.

Service for Ray V. Bailey, 80, of Decatur, was to be Sunday, May 14, at 2 p.m. at Coker Funeral Home Chapel. Bill Marion Bailey was to officiate. Burial was to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Visitation was to be Saturday, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Bailey died Thursday, May 11, 2000, at his home.
Born Sept. 22, 1919, in Matador, he was retired from General Motors and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He married Oma Louise Mowell on Oct. 31, 1942, in Terrell.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Bailey; a son, Bill Bailey of Rhome; two daughters, Raynell Meyers of Southlake and Linda Ozburn of Decatur and six grandchildren.

Baker, Dorothy “Dot”

Service for Dorothy “Dot” Baker, 78, of Irving was Sunday, Feb. 20, at Donnelly’s Colonial Funeral Home Chapel in Irving. Skip Carrison officiated. Burial followed at Colfax Cemetery in Colfax.
Baker died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in Irving.
Born Dec. 4, 1921, in Grand Saline to Carey C. and Amelia Loper Bailey, she was employed as a secretary for Chance Vought in Grand Prairie and then as a secretary for Witte Medical Clinic in Irving for eight years, after which she retired. She was a member of the Irving Bible Church and Cedar Creek Bible Church.
She is survived by her daughters, Caren Baker of Irving and Donna Williams and husband Thomas of Boyd; grandchildren Terri Baker and husband John, Brad Williams and wife Pam, Katrina Owens, Paige Surratt, Kathryn Kirby and husband Cray, Kevin Surratt and wife Alicia, Eric Williams, Nathan Williams and 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service for Al Balch, 89, of Bridgeport was Tuesday, July 25 at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery in Fort Worth. Robert Bankes officiated.
Balch died July 23, 2000, in Bridgeport.
Born April 3, 1911, in Wheatland, he was a retired master craftsman and carpenter. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America #429. He was a member of the Cates St. Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Juanita.
Survivors include a son, Marvin R. Balch and wife Janey; daughters, Jeane Slocomb and husband Vernon, Beth Tanner and husband Chuck and Sharon Rich and husband Jim; a brother, Jay Balch; sisters, Nell Wilkie and Anne Milam; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Balkey, Rosemary
1922-2000
Service for Rosemary Balkey, 78, of Dallas was Thursday at St. Monica Catholic Church with burial in Calvary Hills Cemetery. She was the mother of Dot Shannon of Decatur.
She died December 24 in a Dallas hospital.
Other survivors include daughters Mary Beth Bossart, Kath Loinette, Rosemarie DeZelle and Donna Pavel; sons John, Bob, Jim and Bill Balkey; a brother, Dick Sheehan and 19 grandchildren.

Ball, Thomas Eugene
1904-2000
Graveside service for Thomas Eugene Ball, 95, of Dallas was to be Saturday, July 22 at 11 a.m. at Oaklawn Cemetery in Decatur.
Ball died July 18 in Dallas.
Born Aug. 27, 1904 in Decatur, he was a lawyer and also served as county judge of Johnson County for several terms before retiring in 1975. He attended Decatur Baptist College and graduated from Southern Methodist University School of Law. He was active in the Republican party. During WWII he was a Lt. Colonel and judge advocate in the European Theater.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Crownover.
Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-laws, Thomas Eugene Ball Jr. and wife Bobbie of Edmond, Okla. and George Standley Ball and wife Elfriede of Dallas; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Barrett, Cecil Weldon

Service for Cecil Weldon Barrett, 72, of Chico, was to be Wednesday, Nov. 22, at the First Baptist Church of Chico. Burial was to follow at the Chico Cemetery. Billy Joe Womack and Mark Ball were to officiate.
Barrett died Monday, Nov. 20, 2000.
Born Oct. 16, 1928, in Chico, he was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of the First Baptist Church of Chico and the Chico Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Fletta Barrett; a son, Brent Barrett and wife Lisa; a daughter, Debbie Kimbro; a brother, Harold Barrett and wife Norma; a sister, Ermal Moody and husband Emmett and four grandchildren, Jeramy, Lindsey, Will and Aubrey.
Pallbearers were Gary Moody, Ronny Cope, Brandon Barrett, Jim Duvall, Lonnie Barrett, Kinney Moody and Jeff Mack.

Barrons, Morris R., Rev.

Funeral for The Rev. Morris R. Barrons, 79, of Rhome, was Friday, Nov. 10, at the Rhome Assembly of God Church. Burial was in the Aurora Cemetery. Michael Stephenson officiated, assisted by J.C. Hibbard.
Rev. Barrons died Friday, Nov. 3, 2000, in Sacramento, Calif.
He was the former pastor of the Rhome Assembly of God Church, retiring in 1988. He had also pastored several churches in Virginia, Oklahoma, Missouri, California and in Fort Worth. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Barrons; one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Rebecca Barrons of Rhome, a stepson, Fred McCabe and wife Gail of California; four daughters and sons-in-law, Lydia West of Aledo, Martha and Larry Langford of Tennessee, Hope and Dan Wright of Fort Worth and Faith Taylor of Florida; three sisters, Barbara Hammar and Elaine Sterns of Michigan, and Joann Bradford of California; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Clyde Idell, Windell Splawn, Randy Perkins, Ray Lewis, Richard Young, Harold Norris and Lawrence Taylor.

Barton, Mary Maude

Service for Mary Maude Barton, 95, of Duncanville was to be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, at the David Clayton & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Duncanville. Burial was to follow at the Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville. The Rev. Billy Lane was to officiate.
Barton died Feb. 3, 2000.
Born Jan. 22, 1905, in Paradise, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Barton and her son, Carlos “Chuck” Mooney.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Mooney; two grandsons and a granddaughter-in-law, Jimmy Mooney and Robert and Cynthia Mooney; two great-granddaughters, Andrea and Stephanie Mooney; and many other relatives.

Bass, Gene

Graveside service for Gene Bass, 81, of Austin, was Friday, Sept. 29, at the Chico Cemetery in Chico. The Rev. Gerald Cox officiated.
Bass died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2000.
Born March 5, 1919, in Marshall to James Edward and Janie Everitt McClendon, she graduated from Marshall High School where she was the salutatorian of her class. She married Bill Bass Sr. on Dec. 27, 1941. She was a member of the Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Bass Sr., in 1990.
She is survived by a son, Dr. Bill Bass Jr. of Belton.

Baugh, Ernest D.

Graveside service for Ernest D. Baugh, 88, of Runaway Bay, was Tuesday, Aug. 15, at the East Bridgeport Cemetery. Rev. Joe Motsenbocker officiated.
Baugh died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000 in Bridgeport.
Born Oct. 2, 1911 in Bridgeport, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bridgeport. He married Ruby Pearl Holt on Oct. 6, 1934 in Bridgeport. They were married 65 years.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Mable Mooney.

She is survived by her husband, Fred Baxter; a son, Gerald Gaidar; three daughters, Malinda Lackey, Sandra Baer and Ruth Rice; a brother, Curtis Page; two sisters, Frances Page and Hazel McLean; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Beard died on Feb. 6, 2000, in Chico. He was born on April 15, 1914, in Coleman.
Beard had lived in the Chico community since 1954. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served in World War II. He worked for Lone Star Industries in Chico for 21 years and retired in 1976. He was a member of the Carpenter Street Church of Christ in Bridgeport. He married Rosielee Cullins Beard on July 19, 1932, in Coleman.  He was preceded in death by his son, George Beard, a grandchild, Asa D. Grisham and a great-grandchild, Shannon Hofackett.
Beard is survived by his wife, Rosielee of Chico; three sons, Jerry L. He is survived by his wife Ima Belknap of Decatur; son, Henry Belknap of Alvord; and two daughters, Ruth Ann Hardee of Alvord and Mary Loo Duke of Ringgold. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Born Aug. 23, 1916, in Newcastle, he moved to Bridgeport at a young age. He was the son of Walter M. and Lydia Thomas Bingham. He was a veteran of World War II and a navigator on a B-26 bomber with the 386th Bomb Group, participating in 70 missions over Europe. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, Purple Heart and Air Medal. He was married to Margaret Lee Bogy for 54 years. He was a civil engineer and a retired construction administrative engineer for the Texas Highway Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, a sister and a granddaughter.

He served on the Bridgeport Volunteer Fire Department for 25 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Bridgeport Country Club Men’s Golf Association and belonged to the Masonic Lodge, Shriner’s and Scottish Rite organizations. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bridgeport.
He married Cleo A. Poore Boulware on Aug. 18, 1946, in Bridgeport. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Clyde, Herbert and O.L. Boulware and a sister, Mary Bowden.

Boyd was born April 26, 1951, in Bridgeport. He was a longtime resident of Bridgeport before moving to Bowie six years ago. He was maintenance foreman at Pioneer Rock Crusher and a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Boyd of Bowie; a daughter, Rhonda Bigley of Cleburne; two step-daughters, Stacy Smith of Archer City and Rhonda Heddins of Bowie; a step-son, Darryl Fowler of Nocona; his mother, Izella Boyd of Bowie; a sister, Jo Morton of Bowie and one niece.

Born March 12, 1915, in Aurora, he was a lifetime resident of Newark, former mayor of Newark and a city councilman. He was a former fire chief of the Newark Volunteer Fire Dept. He was a former board member of the Newark ISD. He was retired from General Dynamics after 37 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mableane Taylor Brown.
Survivors include a son, Richard Brown and wife Sandy of Boyd; a daughter, Debbie Evrard and husband David of Newark; a brother, Robert Brown of Newark; five grandchildren, Donny and Barry Brown, Justin McConnell and Shawn and Tori Evrard; and a great- granddaughter, Ashley Nicole McConnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Earl and Minnie Helen Brown of Bridgeport, and by two brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by three brothers and five sisters.

Graveside service for Durwood “Woody” Bruton, 60, of Dallas, was Thursday, Sept. 28, in Decatur at Oaklawn Cemetery.
Bruton died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in Dallas.
Born Aug. 27, 1940, in Haskell, to Ben and Margaret Bruton, he grew up in Weinert. He was a graduate of North Texas State University and taught school in the Dallas area. He was an active member of the White Rock Rotary Club and worked extensively with the Decatur Rotary Club. He was responsible for the organization and funding of the Bachman Recreational Center’s annual chili cookoff that benefits the handicapped and mentally retarded. He was a musician. He was a co-owner of Medical Electronics in Dallas.
He is survived by his twin brother, Elwood “Drue” Bruton; his nephews, Brandon and Blake Bruton; and one cousin Nancy Jane Deaton Mares.

Bullard died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in Bowie.
Born Oct. 20, 1907 in Bellevue, she married J.B. Bullard Jr. on Feb. 13, 1954, in Sweetwater. He preceded her in death in 1994.
She was a retired school teacher and a longtime resident of Newport before she moved to Bowie 16 years ago. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bowie. She was also a member of the Bowie Memorial Hospital Auxillary and a member of The Order of Eastern Star, Decatur Chapter 543, for which she served as organist. She was also a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association.
She attended Texas Tech University and Texas Woman’s College and earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She taught in public schools in Clay, Montague and Wise counties until her retirement in 1968.
She is survived by a brother-in-law, Hobart Bullard of Bowie; two nieces, Helen Bullard of Bellevue and Carole Greer of Mesquite; three nephews, Bill Cooper of Del Rio, David Jones of Arcadia and John E. Bullard of Bowie; one great niece, Sharon Webb of Bellevue and several other nieces and nephews.

He was born on June 27, 1915, in Monticello.
Bunnell was retired. He was married to the late Daphne Bunnell for 63 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Paradise and was an avid orchid horticulturalist.

Born Sept. 9, 1912, in Greenwood, to Robert E. and Lorenza Dow Vandiver Florida, Sr., she had lived her entire life in Greenwood and only recently moved to Gainesville. She was an artist, like her father, and devoted to reading the Bible.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Dee Burks, in 1965 and by ten brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn Louise and Lindsey Grigsby of Mesquite; daughter, Gloreeta Burks of Tyler; sons, Dale Burks of Greenwood, Oscar and wife Barbara Burks of Valley View, Dr. Lawrence Dee and wife Judy Burks of Gainesville; a brother, John Florida of Greenwood; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She married Haskell Lee Byers in Wise County in 1936. She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, A.Z. and Clifton Kennedy; and a sister, Lometa Earp.

Survivors include four sisters, Velma White and Lorene Cross, both of Decatur, Sally Leonard of Quanah and Cordia Holland of Gonzalas, Calif.; one grandson, Skip Mann of Forestburg; and two great-grandchildren.

Caraway, Kate Edna

Service for Kate Edna Caraway, 91, of Bridgeport, was Thursday, Dec. 21, in Hawkins Funeral Home Chapel. Joe Richardson and Tex Monk officiated. Burial was in West Bridgeport Cemetery.
She died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, in a Decatur nursing home.
Born Dec. 25, 1908, in Marble Falls, Caraway was a homemaker and a member of Carpenter Street Church of Christ in Bridgeport. She and Pete Caraway married Sept. 17, 1926 in the Wise County courthouse and they lived in Bridgeport during their 63-year marriage. He preceded her in death on Aug. 24, 1989.
Among the many memories of her family are her quilts, her chocolate fried pies, cooking on a wood stove in the middle of her kitchen, teaching her grandchildren to scale fish with a spoon, her caramel pies, her tomcat and Sunday dinners.
Survivors include a son, John Caraway of Bridgeport; three daughters, Jean O’Dell of Bridgeport, Helen Russell of Grapevine and Wanda Snow of Grapevine; one sister, Billie Arrington of Fort Worth; daughter-in-law, Sue Caraway of Bridgeport; 17 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and 38 great-great-grandchildren.

Carter died on Feb. 7, 2000, in Decatur. She was born on March 16, 1917, in Texas. She moved to Bridgeport from Oklahoma in 1985. She was a homemaker and a Methodist. Carter loved to make dolls, doll clothing and her daughterÕs clothes, sewing everything by hand. Carter enjoyed giving her handmade items to others.
Carter is survived by four sons, Larry Bunch of Caneyville, Ky., Gary Bunch of Portage, Mich., James Overbay of Dallas and Ronnie Robinson of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one daughter, Linda Galloway of Dallas; one sister, Dortha Peek of Chico; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Born Oct. 18, 1915, to Hollie and Mary Crownover, she was the last surviving of nine children. She resided in Fort Worth until 1997 when she moved to Eastland.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert F. Cartwright; a daughter, Myrna Lois and a son, Herbert F. Cartwright, Jr.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Funderburgh of Eastland; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Born June 15, 1914, in Paris, Casey was one of seven children of Peter Elitt Shoemate and Bessie Madding Shoemate. She married William Matthew Casey on June 4, 1938, in Paris. He preceded her in death in 1997. She taught English at Decatur High School for many years before retiring in 1972.
Survivors include her sister, Bonnie Shoemate of Paris; a brother, Jim Shoemate of Paris; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Larry Nye of Babylon, N.Y. and Mary Sue and John DeFore of Midland; a son and daughter-in-law, William Michael and Christina Casey of Decatur; and seven grandchildren, John Mark DeFore of Austin, David and Casey DeFore of Midland, Gregory and Casey Nye of Babylon and Meagan and Matthew Casey of Decatur.

Born Aug. 29, 1908, in Decatur, he was the owner of Cates Title Company, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur and a World War II veteran. He was a member of the Lost Battalion, the recipient of three Purple Hearts and a graduate of Texas A & M University.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Dill Cates and a son, Charles Cates, Jr.
Surviving is one son, Cody Cates of Decatur, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Born Aug. 30, 1909, in Forestburg, Chambers was a retired teacher. She was a member of the Sunset United Methodist Church in Sunset and she grew up in Forestburg. She graduated from the University of North Texas with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education. She taught school at Stoneburg, Sunset, Park Springs and Chico during her 36-year teaching career. She married Darrell Ray Chambers Sr. on Dec. 24, 1934, in Stoneburg. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Ettie Smith; and two half-brothers, Hoke and Everett Medley.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Lou Anna Chambers of Dallas; two grandchildren, Scott and his wife Helen of Mansfield and Jennifer Chambers of Duncanville; two great-grandchildren, Britani and Mickey Chambers, both of Mansfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Born March 9, 1904, in Alvord, she owned and operated A&J Cleaners in Decatur for many years in Decatur. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, a Past Matron of Decatur Chapter 543, a member of Greenwood Chapter 1060 Order of Eastern Star, treasurer of Decatur Rebekah Lodge 183 and secretary of Ball Knob Cemetery since 1961.
She married Edward Blythe Sept. 15, 1930. He preceded her in death in 1934. She married Albert Lee Chesney March 26, 1945. He preceded her in death in 1988.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty Jean Colgrove of Decatur; two grandchildren, Dale Colgrove of Decatur and Ricky Colgrove of North Richland Hills and six great-grandchildren.

Clay died Aug. 30, 2000, in Houston.
He was born Nov. 11, 1913, in Fort Worth. He was a 20-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, reaching the rank of Master Sgt.
He was a member of the Wise County Historical Society, the Decatur Garden Club, Cowtown Clowns, Wise County Clowns, Clowns of America and Texas Clown Association. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church.
Clay received a lifetime membership as a gift from the Kunitachi Lodge #4 in Japan, where he served as worshipful master.
He is survived by his wife, Clara; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Margaret and Michael Horan; two brothers, Bill J. Clay and Robert L. Clay; two sisters, Mary Hooe and Bernie Burress; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, Henry Laurence “Larry” Clay.

Clowdus died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas.
Born Aug. 20, 1917, in Wilson, Okla., he married Doris Lanelle Hagerty on Dec. 30, 1939, in Oklahoma City. They were married 60 years. A retired general manager of the LubriKup Company in Fort Worth, he lived in Runaway Bay 20 years.
He was a former member of the Runaway Bay city council and the Runaway Bay planning and zoning commission. He was an active member of the Runaway Bay Community Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was a charter member of The Club at Runaway Bay.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Clowdus, of Runaway Bay; a son, Mike and wife Pat Clowdus of Denver, Colo.; a daughter, Pat and husband Don Brownlee of Hallsville; two grandchildren, Jeff Brownlee and wife Karyn and Jenny Beaty and husband Kevin; five great grandchildren, Beau, Blake, Bradley, Blaire and Aimee; a sister, Viola Brittain of Ardmore, Okla. and numerous nieces and nephews.

She married Walter Cobb on Dec. 23, 1940, in Bridgeport. He preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Rondah Kay Cobb and her brother, Marion Easley.
She is survived by her son, Neil and wife Wanda Cobb of Houston; her daughters, June Hill of Paradise and Jan Angelley and husband Bill of Lubbock; her sisters, Novella Denton of Bridgeport and Lucille Weatherly of Chico; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Born Aug. 18, 1915, in Bridgeport, to Allie Hudson and John Atkinson, she married Stanley J. Cook in 1933. She and her husband moved to Stephenville in 1945 from Oak Ridge, Tenn. where Mr. Cook was employed as a defense worker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, in 1995; a son, Paul Cook in 1999, and three siblings, Wilford Atkinson, Warren Atkinson and Pansy Lee Lumsden Buzzo.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce E. Cook of Stephenville; a sister, Estelle Peninger of Georgetown; three grandchildren, Cynthia Parham of Stephenville, Carla Jo Cook and J. Paul Cook, both of Decatur; four great grandchildren, Matthew Parham, Webb Kittinger, Chloe Kittinger and Katie Parham; a niece, Debra Lynn Stasey of Stephenville and several nephews.

She was an active member of the Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, National Retired Teachers Association and a member of the First Baptist Church of Saginaw. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.H. and Joann Flowers, four brothers, six sisters and her husband, Sidney R. Cook.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Ray Cook Sr.; two sons and daughters-in law, Ray Jr. and Judy Cook and Larry and Debbie Cook; a daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Scott Cheves; honorary mother, Lucille Schunter and her husband, Bill; and six grandchildren, Kristin, Kameron, Monica, Trevor, Lauren and Kelsey.
