Missouri
Good Afternoon,
Several years ago I had contacted the list but at that time
I did not match with any of the existing Rutledge lines. So
I am hoping that in the past few years maybe someone has
joined that matches my line.
My Rutledge's start in Missouri, Greene County, Springfield
area. David Rutledge born 1831 location unknown. The
Greene County Missouri probate court minutes ( Feb. 1843)
show that David Rutledge and his brother Jamison (sons of
Jane) were bound over to John McElhannon until the age of
21. I have been unable to find out more about David's
mother or father. I have checked early Missouri marriage
books in hopes of finding a male Rutledge who married a Jane
in the late 1820's or early 1830's but so far no luck. I
have also been unable to find anything on a Jamison
Rutledge. I was hoping that maybe someone has a missing
male in their family that married a Jane and could be
David's father.
David Rutledge married Nancy Ingram Sept 18, 1853 in Greene
County, MO. Nancy was born May 4, 1835 in Tennessee. David
died Sept 16, 1911 in Springfield. Nancy died June 23, 1917
also Springfield. They had 7 children. Here's what I have
so far:
1. Thomas Rutledge, born about 1853. I can't find any
information about Thomas.
2. Malinda Jane Rutledge, born May 17, 1856 in MO. She
married Grover Fowler sometime between 1880 and 1900. She
died Oct. 31, 1914.
3. Hiram Columbus Rutledge born March 1860 in MO. He
married Margaret Andrews before 1880. They had the
following children: Peter Nov. 1876, Thomas Lincoln Jan. 22,
1881, Albert L. Oct. 1882, Annie E. Aug. 1884, James C. July
3, 1886, Pansy May Feb. 1, 1888 and Allie P. Jan. 1895.
Hiram and family lived in Mt. Vernon, Lawrence County for a
number of years. In 1918 Hiram is living in Miami, Oklahoma
according to Thomas's draft card registration.
4. Amelia Ann Rutledge (my great grandmother) born May 5,
1866. She married James Edgar Lee May 10, 1885 in
Springfield MO. They had the following children: Lincoln
June 6, 1882, Mary Ann Oct. 8, 1886, Ella Clare Jan. 23,
1892, Asa Clarence June 23, 1895, Archie Roy Apr. 22, 1897,
Jessie Marion Aug. 13, 1898, Samantha Harriet Oct. 23, 1902
and Frances May Nov. 26, 1905. All of these children except
Frances were born in MO. Frances was born in CA. The
family moved from MO to CA between 1902 and 1905. They then
moved to Salem, Oregon.
5. Charles Rutledge born about 1868. I haven't found much
on Charles either.
6. Sarah C. Rutledge born about 1870. According to her
mothers obit. her married name is Cutberth.
7. James H Rutledge born Oct. 23, 1878. He married Frona A.
? about 1899. They had the following children: William
about 1897, Gertrude about 1899, Nora B about 1901, Floyd
about 1907 and Mable J. about 1912. James lived in
Springfield and in Logan, Wayne County.
So far I haven't been able to trace down the male lines to
find someone who might be able to participate in the DNA
tests, but I will keep working on it.

Thank you Betty.
I also copied the death certificate of Stephen W. Rutledge dated 1910.
It verified some things we of the direct line suspected, that his W. as a middle initial was in fact Wilson., that his mother was a Wilson, but also a puzzle because it says his father's name was Wilson Rutledge. Wilson doesn't seem to be the name we have always assumed it to be, as one of four brothers and one sister.
Can anyone shed some light on why the enumerator gave his father's name as Wilson Rutledge?
Thanks.
Don Kelly Owen Rutledge.
They are dated 1910 - 1956. I put in Rutledge and found over
300 and also put in Stephen Rutledge of Texas Co. and was able
to print his off.
Hope this helps someone.

Hi Betty and good morning all. Descended from
Stephen and Mary makes us
cousins to your husband.
I and my sisters Marie, Montez and Olene descend from Stephen's
daughter
Chelnessee who was a baby when Stephen marched off to the Civil
War.
I am told she held me on her lap when I was a baby. She died
1937 and I was
too young to remember her. Her husband Henry Owen died about
1924, ten years
before I was born. My dad Oscar and his younger brother Eugene
dearly loved
their grandfather Henry.

No, I don't believe so. My husband's ggrandparents were
Stephen and
Mary Massey Rutledge from MO. I haven't researched any farther than this
because there are so many Rutledges. I do print off what is mentioned
about Stephen and Mary Rutledge. I think all of this history is really
interesting but my husband's family (siblings and their children) are not
interested in it. My husband appreciates it too. Before I started in
this geneology research we didn't know who his great grandparents were on
either side of his parents and his aunt helped us out alot. She passed
away about 3 years ago now at age 98. We now know that Teresa Mae
Rutledge married Robert M. Kiger (Jack's grandparents) in Texas Co. Mo.
and moved to Indiana and from there moved to Danville, (vermilion co.) IL.
I know the names now of Robert. Kigers parents. So I have Jack's family
tree. I believe this information to be correct. I don't spend much time
on it . I go in spurts especially when I
had run into a brick wall. On his Pollitt side I did go back a ways and
even emailed a cousin who lives in Englind Pollitts are from. It would be
interesting to meet cousins on the Stephen side because sometimes you can
see family resemblance. I've often wondered if there were reunions.

We live in Indiana, Crawfordsville to be exact. There are some
Rutledges here and I have been going to find out if they are related.
Anyway, I sure miss snow. We haven't had any this year but I don't know
which is worse to be snowed in for days or be like spring year round. Best
wishes to everyone in the snow and hope you get dug out soon.

Fountain Rutledge I just saw a copy of
Fountain's marriage contract to
Judy. The paperwork I have says Fuquay, but I see Finney by some
people.
Is there a chance she was a Fuquay? The reason I'm asking is that my
grandpa Rutledge's maternal lines come down from the Fuquay/Fuqua
line
in VA. Any knowledge of this out there? Was also
wondering.. Are
any of our cuz'ns suffering from the blizzard situation in the plains?
I can remember one stor!
m when I was little that had drifts so high we had to wait for our
neighbors to come and dig it away so we could get out our doors. The
snow had swirled around thru the night and we couldn't get out
either
door. My kids say well, mom, why didn't you just raise the windows
and
go out that way. They didn't understand that back then, you put on
storm
windows, and they were put on from the outside & had a turn screw and
there was no way of opening them from the inside. They found it amazing
that we were "prisoners" of our own home. When we were finally set
free,
my 4 siblings and I found that we could climb the drifts with our sled
and
slide right off the roof unto the drifts! I've never seen anything like
that one, nor do I ever want to again! Jan. 3rd
1979 was another
horrible storm for us here in IL. I was in labor, lived 6 blocks
from
the hospital, and they wanted to come and get me on a snowmobile to
get
me to the hospital! It was 30 below and the snow was so deep that my
husb! and was being paid to shovel the snow off of roofs because
they were
collapsing all around us! He wasn't even at the hospital for the
birth
of his youngest daughter! That was the coldest and snowiest winter
that
I ever remember! I feel very confident that 2007 will be
the year

Raised in Texas County near Tyrone, but married north in another County, then off to Texas State I hear.
Thanks John, What I found was Jackson Rutledge in his
father Wm. house and
then in his own with a 15 yr. old in the 1850 Buckanan Co Rush Twp. MO
census.
I haven't seen the long hand version. Have to go to Denver for that and at
the moment that isn't a possible. My other thought was ask about his
children
Wm. reported them all he had no wife at that point and was himself 55 years
old. Now a young man but not so young then. So I really appreciate your
reply. Thanks, Ginny
At that time there were two Wm. Rutledges in MO. Wm. of
Newton Co per the
posted will and William of Buchanan Co Rush Twp. on the 1850 census with
children. The second is my line but it took time to seperate the two.

The IN Rutledge family is very interesting. My William b
1795 (1850 census
and prior census agree) I understood in TN. However I find him in Jennings
Co.
IN in 1820 and then in 1830 in Harrison Co. IN. He is in Buchanan Co. MO
Rush Twp. for the 1850 census having with him children born in IN and MO. I
believe he married Diantha Trindell in Jennings Co she was a widow maiden
name I
believe was Eastman. I later find no wife with Wm in MO though he had a son
in
1846-7 there so I assume she died before the census of 1850. The two
youngest sons are found with E. D. and Buerll Eastman in TX in 1860. I have
done
this off the top of my head but if there is a chance there is a connection I
will
be happy to check dates etc. and post more completely. Ginny in Wyoming
I went to my 70th annual Lutrell reunion on Sunday, and
my cousin and I

anyone here is connected to this Charles Edward Rutledge below?
It's been a quiet list lately. I haven't been on much at all, as I was
flat in bed for 3 weeks due to a bulged disk in my lower back that
affected my sciatic nerve. Had to spend 3 days in the hospital after
they gave me a pain shot and I had an allergic reaction and collapsed on
the floor at the dr.'s office. I got a complimentary ambulance ride to
the hospital & gave my family quite a scare as my blood pressure
rocketed, and they thought I was going to have a stroke. I am back to
work part time anyway, but still suffering pain that is pretty intense
at times. They said they wouldn't consider surgery for 3-6 months.
Anyone had this problem before? Would like to know what they did for
you, as I'm at my witt's end!!!!

Jan,
I have been on this list for years and exchanged info with Carol Brunner and
her husband Donavan Rutledge and Beth Hulsher (cousins) with the hope that
we would connect to someone else on this list! What a surprise!!
Elsiedean "Pearl" Rutledge is my great aunt - she is one of the older
sisters of my grandmother, Virgie Dolores Rutledge! Their father, my great
grandfather, Charles Edward Rutledge is the son of John Rutledge b 25 June
1826 Scott Co KY and Elizabeth Gilbert. John Rutledge is the son of Fountain
Rutledge b 1796 KY and Judy Finney.
I do not have very much info about Elsiedean "Pearl" and her husband
Frederick Howe. There seems to have been a falling out between the sisters
(Maude, Pearl and Virgie)(sister Nina and brother Charles were already
deceased) in 1941 after the death of their mother and I believe my
grandmother only saw her sister again at the funeral of Charles Edward
Rutledge in 1943.
I have not heard of a Freeland Rutledge in our family but am very curious to
know about his ancestors.
Sorry to hear of your medical problems but the news about "Aunt Pearl" made
my day!!!

I have been a long time and lately a silent (almost)
member of this list.
My elusive ancestor Fountain Rutledge (b 1796 KY) is still a big brick wall.
The connection of the Rutledge and Gamble family to Ann Mayes Rutledge
caught my eye(as it may have years and years ago and I did not have the
sense or maturity to follow the lead!) As long as my Rutledge grandmother
was living she claimed we were related (cousins) to Ann Rutledge... and if
you had ever met my grandmother, you would have known better than to
question anything she said!! I have no idea how far back the story about
being "cousins" began, or how many "removed" figure into the equation.
In reviewing all of my records concerning Fountain Rutledge, I now find the
same Gamble families living near him in KY, IN and then in MO. Fountain
lived in Scott Co., and Jessamine Co KY before moving to Hendricks Co IN in
1837. There are Gambles in neighboring Bourbon and Harrison Co KY and this
family are then enumerated next to Fountain Rutledge in 1850 and also in
1840 Hendricks Co IN (that census is alphabetical so neighbors are not
obvious.) Josiah Gamble (b 1777 VA) purchased land in Hendricks Co IN and
moved his family there ca 1830 from Bourbon Co., KY... Fountain purchased
land in Hendricks Co IN 1837... coincidence or family following
family....cousins???
We know that sons of George and Nellie (Gamble) Rutledge came to America -
now it stands to reason that brothers of Nellie Gamble also immigrated and
may have also intermarried with the Rutledge before leaving Ireland. All I
have to do now is prove it!!
Any info anyone might have on Nellie Gamble would be welcome and
appreciated...

I have been casually researching Edward Crockett Rutledge, born in Virginia (Blacksburg area) ca 1817, eventually settled in Montgomery County Indiana (Shannondale) between 1840 and 1850, had a son William, born in Missouri. I have been unable to link ECR to his parents in Blacksburg nor have I been able to determine exactly when he left Virginia, how he managed to be in Missouri, and when he arrived in Indiana. Family records show a William as father but no documentation.Do you have any information on this particular Rutledge?By the way, there appears to be an Edward P. Rutledge, also from Virginia who settled just down the road in Indiana (Boone County) about the same time. EPR is burried across the county line in Shannondale, Montgomery County, IN.
I found Jackson in the 1855 Kansas Territorial Census, listed in
the
13th district. I found nothing for the other 3 children. I checked the
MO. marriages, and there is nothing for any of them. I couldn't find
Jackson in the 1860 nor the 1870 census either. Jan

I assume these are the same two records you have found that appear to be the
same person counted twice.. but.. there are a few differences that seem to be a
problem.. first, the Jackson Rutledge in the household of William was born in
Iowa. The other Jackson Rutledge was born in KY. Second, there is a one year
difference in age, 25 for one vs 26 for the other. Also, they were enumerated
on the same day by the same enumerator. Since they lived so close, it would
seem likely the enumerator would recognize he was counting the same person
twice...
I can't add an attachment to the R-List, but if you would like I can send copies
of the record to your e-address if that would help... John in
Oregon
Hi Ginny..
I looked in Ancestry for the census records you mentioned... If I understand
this correctly, the info below would cause me to believe the two Jackson
Rutledges are different people.

My Rutledges came from Virginia, may have spent some time in
Tennessee, were
in Missouri long enough to have son William T. b. 1845, and moved on to
Montgomery County, Indiana by the 1850 US Census.
How many of the Blacksburg, VA, Rutledges may have made the journey and over
what time period is unclear. There appear to be a number of Virginians,
among them Rutledges, who settled in Boone and Montgomery Counties, IN,
sometime
+/- 5 to 10 years of 1850.
I've been trying to find a reliable link to this family. In the 1850 census
E. C. shows his mother as having been born in TN and his father in VA but I
have no names that seem reliable links.
Edward Crockett Rutledge, b. 1818 VA, d. 1885 IN and his wife, perhaps a
cousin, Martha (Marthy) Ann, b. 1824 VA, d. 1898 IN. They got married on
09/28/1844, I know not where. Most of this information comes from an old
family
Bible which is rich in names and dates but poor in locations.
I seem to have many clues but few conclusions. Any help out there?

I received these notes from Liz Yost off list. I suggested to her
that she join the mail list and ask about this line. She indicated
that she would.
Does anyone know about this line?

Can you please tell me about the Edward Rutledge referenced in your
message regarding "Rutledge Surname DNA"? I have a friend descended
from Thomas Rutledge of VA (died 1793). Are you aware of any others
on the Rutledge list who share this heritage? Liz Yost

The Edward Rutledge in her line was born 1761 and died in 1836,
married Ann Gillespie. These Rutledge families centered around
Montgomery Co., VA, Augusta Co., VA and then to Washington Co, MO on
the way to California.

Hi all,
I am hoping to pick the brains of my cousins Don Kelly and Kathye Hyde but
all suggestions are welcome.
What do you do in the case of unmarked graves? I think I have found the
cemetary where my paternal grandmother is buried, Myrtle Thompson Rutledge,
CHarlie's wife. Apparently there are sketchy records and few to no
headstones. I know she was buried in Carter Co. MO because of her death
record. Dad remembered Midco, which I found is a community outside of
Fremont. A lady in the local historical society did some looking for me, God
bless her, but couldn't find their names. I was hoping to get close so I
could at least try to get a marker put up.
I'm thinking of going further by seeing if I can come up with a death record
of dad's sister Elzora. Myrtle is buried with her. Elxora died of Measles in
the 1920's. I know this from Dad and the fact Elzora appears in the 1920
census with Charlies family in Carter Co.
Also important. Dad stated yesterday that his Aunt Rosie and Aunt Rithie are
buried in the Myrtle Mo. cemetary along with his dad and Uncle Tom. Kathye do
you know anything about this. Rosie would be Rosie Rutledge Traw Johnson.
Ritha would be Oritha Rutledge James.
So anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
Thanks,
Julie

While I was in Ottumwa, Iowa, I picked up the photo that Stephen Rutledge
found in Tyrone. I don't know how the photo ended up in Tyrone,
Missouri because
the Wests have always lived in the Murray and Grand River, Iowa area. The

Dear List,
Just received this email from a
newly discovered Rutledge-Baugher
cousin
from Elizabeth Rutledge line. Elizabeth J. Rutledge was the
daugher of
Lorenzo Dow Rutledge b.1813 VA and Polly/Mary Molsby of TN.
She says that
part of the TN Rutledge line ended up in SE MO and then to
Blytheville, AR as
Baughers (pronounced Boyer in our line), as well as So. IL that I
knew of in
Hardin County, IL.
Has anyone found
any more info or proof on Jackson Middleton

Dear Barbara,
I found your query tonight
in browsing the web. I have not researched
the Rutledge line for several years, but I am also a descendent
of Lorenzo
Dow and Mary. I am a descendent of Elizabeth Rutledge and John
Jacob Baugher.
I do have some information gleamed from census and marriage
records and also
a copy of a bible record of Lorenzo and Mary that were in
my great uncle
(Eddie Baugher) possession. I am really interested in the
information that
Lorenzo was the son of Jackson Middleton Rutledge. Do you have
some type of
document or is this hear say information?
My grandfather, Thomas
Valentine Baugher and his family came to the
bootheel of Missouri and then on to Blytheville, Mississippi
County,
Arkansas. Elizabeth's
brother William Epsome Rutledge died 26 March 1942 in Pemiscot
County,
Missouri. William and wife Mary M. were found in the 1910
Pemiscot Co. Mo.
Census. William was 53-TN, Mary M. 50-IL. Census stated that Mary
had 10
children with 7 living. Only one daughter, Cend age 9-IL was
listed in the
household.
In 1920 Pemiscot Co. MO Little Prairie PCT was age 60-IL, widow
and had some
grandchildren listed in her household.
I will be happy to share
what little information I have with you.
Again I am
really interested in the parents of Lorenzo Dow. I did find the
marriage
date for Lorenzo and Mary. They were married 29 Jan 1835 Hawkins
County,
Tennessee. The records are located in the Early East Tennessee
Marriage
Records.
Looking forward to hearing
from you.

find one, where she was selling land she apparently inherited

Neither did I find
anything where any of her children inherited land from their

My thanks to each of you who responded to my message

It was speculated that the bondsmen, Sampson Looney and

Survey Twp 26N, Range 29W, Newton County meets with
Lawrence and
Barry Counties. Clockwise, section 26 is in Newton
County, section 25
is in Lawrence County, section 36 is in Barry County and
Section 35 is
in Newton County.
Stephen D Sutton bought 120 acres of government land in
section 25,
Lawrence County. Thomas C Rutledge bought 80 acres in
section 26, Newton County.
John Rutledge bought 120 acres in section 35, Newton
County. Luke Williams bought land in section 23, Newton County.
Sec 23 is north of section 26, on the Lawrence Co. line.
Other members of the families purchased land nearby.
Nancy and Lucy Williams bought 40 acres each in section 25,
Lawrence County but I suspect there is no relation as Nancy
Williams appears in the Greene Co. tax list of 1834, neither
Nancy or Lucy appear in the 1850 Lawrence county census.

Carol or Donavon,
In an e-mail to the list on sat, 28 Aug 1999, I found three names
among
the Finney information that caught my eye. I think they are
part of the
Rutledges in Adams Co. that I am trying to find their place in
the right
Rutledge family.
"Charles Edward Rutledge 1861-1943 & wife Eva"
Did he have a hotel in Quincy, Adams Co. IL in 1905?
How far back do you have on his line?
Do you have info. on his children to share?
"Nina G. Rutledge 1890-1905"
I have her buried in Woodland Cemetery, Quincy, Adams Co. IL
Did she have brothers & sisters?
Would enjoy seeing any information on this branch of Rutledges.
Thanks in advance.
Donna in cool, dry OR ( It is great)
This was on an old sheet of typing paper and the type was the kind used by those real old typewriters. I do not know how it came into my possession. I have nothing noted on it. I am leaving it punctuated as it was because there is a confusing statement and I don't know to which end of the sentence it belongs- aarrrrgggggghhhhh.

RUTLEDGE, May:
May Rutledge (T Mary Rutledge) b 13 Jul 1877 Tyrone, Texas, Mo,
youngest daughter of Stephen W. Rutledge, Robert Kiger. Searching
for May's children. No more data.
Thanks Marie! It's real interesting that they moved to OK... (Or
was I reading Don wrong on that?) I wonder if any more of our
Rutledge line did. I believe Roger's Great Grandmother, Mary
Elizabeth Rutledge (daughter of John B. Rutledge and Elizabeth
Roark), grew up in AR and met Obadiah Goodman there. Most of
their children b. AR, but then the last two b. Pittsburg Co., OK
(in the Southeastern corner). I haven't found any other
Rutledge's near the Goodman's, but I'd think that would be
possible. Kay
NOTE from Kathye 2/14/99
This entry from the Missouri page of Don's "Most
Wanted" is interesting and I have some further info on it
and on the Arkansas cemetery entry. Who is searching for May
Rutledge????
I have long had the information that May Rutledge Kiger died and
was buried in Indiana. I don't know where in Indiana, but that's
the family info that Grandpa Tom gave my mother.
Furthermore, I believe May's full name was Therresse May
Rutledge. The reason for that is this -- a Therresse M. Kiger
received land from Stephen Rutledge in Texas Co, MO. It was dated
6/21/1904 and recorded 12/31/1906, entry #10261 in the Deed Index
book at the Texas County courthouse.
If anyone can get up there to look, it would be worthwhile.
Stephen and Mary also gave/sold land to R.M. Kiger 1/29/1906,
which was recorded 12/31/1906, entry #9547 in the Deed Index
book.
On another note, in the Arkansas page, Carrol County cemetery
listings:
RUTLEDGE JEROME 1867 1940 MOUNT HEBRON
RUTLEDGE MENERVA 1846 1896 MOUNT HEBRON
RUTLEDGE MYRTLE 1876 1943 MOUNT HEBRON
RUTLEDGE VERNA 1898 1918 MOUNT HEBRON
The birthdate and death date of Jerome Rutledge match those of
Jerome Pickard Rutledge, son of Stephen and Mary Rutledge. He
married Myrtle Urback, and the dates of this Myrtle Rutledge are
consistent with those you would expect for Jerome's wife. This is
all the info I have on that line: Descendants of Jerome Pickard
Rutledge
1 Jerome Pickard RUTLEDGE b: June 3, 1867 d: October 28, 1940 .
+Myrtle Augusta URBACK .. 2 Blanche Ethel RUTLEDGE b: August 24,
1901 d: 1973 ...... +William Everett GEISLER b: 1895 m: February
17, 1923 d: 1972
I believe this came from Pam's cousin, William Geisler. I don't
have his email address, however. Pam, does Bill have email yet? I
would love his input.
I wonder if the Verna Rutledge buried in Mount Hebron cemetery is
a daughter of Jerome and Myrtle? Any guesses on who the Menerva
Rutledge was?

Hi Ron
It would be easer to list the names of the grave yards and the

Wm. D.,
When you finish getting all those cemeteries canvassed, you could
post the cemeteries and the Rutledge listings that you have found
in them to the Rutledge List. This would very likely be a large
help to others who are searching for Lost Rutledge's in MO. It
sounds like it would be a large list so you would probably post
it in only a few cemeteries at a time until you got t hem all
posted rather than trying to send them all at one time. I for one
would certainly like to see that list.
Ron, in the woods
Thanks everyone! My Rutledge's were in Greene County
MO in the 1830's -
1860's. Then came back again around 1900.
Here's what I have:
The earliest name I have is David born June 10,1837 in MO, died
Sept. 26,
1911. Married Nancy Ann Ingram Sept 18, 1853. Nancy
was born May 4, 1835 in
TN. According to the 1860 census, David and Nancy had the
following
children: Thomas age 7, Malinda age 5, Hiram C, age
4. My gr-gr
grandmother, Amelia Ann was born May 5, 1866. There may
have been other
children. I believe that David's mother was Jane, and that he had
a brother
Jamison.

Pam, I enjoyed reading your info on Ripley Co., MO - thank
you! Husband
Roger's Great Grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Rutledge, married
Obadiah
Goodman (about 1890, place unknown). Obadiah's father, McElyea
Goodman,
married his 3rd wife, Rebecca J. Dailey, on July 09, 1878 in
Ripley Co.,
MO. I wonder if there might have been Rutledge's right over one
of the
County lines... or the AR line. (?) Mary Elizabeth was
born/raised in
either Dent or Texas County, MO but apparenly her mother moved to
Reynolds Co after her Dad died on 4 Dec 1889. Reynolds is
separated from
Ripley Co by Carter Co... Might be lots of interesting things in
those
three counties! Thanks again!
Kay

Hey Carole: Ran across this while looking for some of Kay's
ancestors in Mo.
Anytime I see a Rutledge associated with the letter F. I think of
ya'll. The
time on this one is about right though.

Thanks Jack! It does beat all (old fashioned phrase
there) the way these folks just keep showing up in the same
places. Washington County is southwest of St. Louis while
Lewis County where Fountain lived is at the top of the
state in the north east. YET, the names Cowen, Gamble, Palmer,
are all associated with places we have found Fountain.
Another bit to ponder. Thank you so much and how goes your
brickwall??? CBR
