This maybe of some interest to the researchers of Rutledge in MD that moved on to OH and then disappear.

Recently I posted info concerning a Mable Rutledge and her marriage in 1901 to Henry S. Day in Washington Co., Idaho.   When searching the census in Washington Co ID, I came across a Samuel M. Rutledge.   Thinking Mable might be part of his family and not of my Rutledge group,  I set out to eliminate that possibility.
In 1900, Washington Co., ID census,  Samuel M Rutledge is listed as the stepson of Harry/Henry (spelling/handwriting glitch) Featherston(e).  Samuel is 34 single and born in OH.  Also listed is Frank L. 24  NV., a son of Harry/Henry Featherston(e).   More checking resulted in:
1880 Mineral Springs, White Pine Co NV census
Featherstone, Henry/harry 38 Eng
  Hester  43 OH OH OH
Frank L 3  NV Eng OH
  Lillian  2 NV Eng OH
Rutledge, Samuel 14 OH MD OH
Rutledge, Lizzie   11 OH MD OH
1870 census index only produced one Samuel age 4
TurtleCreek, Warren Co OH
Samuel 4, OH; Eliza (Lizzie?) 2 OH and Harriet (Hester??) 32 OH.....  Harriet is working in one household as a servant and the 2 children are living in separate households but all 3 are residing in households next to each other... no clue as to the name of the missing father Rutledge (that is not unusual!!!)  that was born in MD.    This maybe a completely different group than the Rutledge that appear with Featherston(e) in 1880 in NV but there are similiarities.(sic)
I followed Samuel M Rutledge through the census from 1900, 1910, 1920 in Washington Co ID then to Malheur Co OR in 1930.  There appears in the Oregon death index a Samuel Rutledge that died  19 Dec 1934 in Portand OR.    In Cambridge-Salubria, Washington Co., ID cemetery are listings for Harry Featherston, Hester Featherstone b 25 Feb 1837; d 3 June 1911 and Samuel Rutledge b 1866 Dec 19; d 1934 all in the same cemetery plot.
Samuel M Rutledge never seems to have been married.  On all of the census he is listed as single. As for Lizzie (Elizabeth?)  Rutledge - that is for someone else to find!

No sign of a Mable in anything I found concerning this Rutledge family  & that leads me to believe she is not part of Samuel's family group.    More extensive research (death certificate) could give a name to Samuel's father and confirm Hester/Harriett as his mother - that is if an informed person gave the information for the death certificate!

Don, I also have a relative by the name of Ted Rutledge Theodore?) married to
an Esther ?Rutledge, and had a son Ronnie. they lived in Tama, Tama county
Iowa. I think they were still alive in 1970.  They lived a few houses from my
family but I didnt know they were related then.  Still dont know how they
were related, but I was told that Ronnie was a cousin to me. probably a
second cousin.  also, a Carrie Rutledge married a Fred Buckley, and lived in
Tama Iowa in the same time frame.  I think Carrie was a 2nd cousin to my
mother and was should have been born in the early 1900's.  Cheryl

I RECENTLY RECIEVED THIS INFO ON MY RUTLEDGE FAMILY FROM A SECOND COUSIN IN
RIALTO CALIFORNIA. THOUGHT MAYBE SOMEONE ELSE COULD ALSO USE IT.     THIS IS
THE JOHN W. RUTLEDGE LINE(1839) FATHER OF NANCY JANE RUTLEDGE

James Elmer Smith born 8-11-1880.........Died....4-9-70

Mother: Nancy Jane (Rutledge) Smith.
Father: Abner Smith.

Four brothers: John, Bert, Ray and Frank.
Two sisters: Abby Mae and Elizabeth.

Frank died as a young man, around 18-19 of Diabetes.
Elizabeth died giving birth to her fifth child. She was married to Jurd Peak.
Lizzie and Hazel were two of their children.

Nancy Jane (Rutledge) Smith is suppose to be buried in Marshalltown, Iowa
beside a country church.

My grandpa James Elmer Smith was married first to Eva Peek on January 6,
1904. She died of TB at the age of thirty. She is buried at Otterman
Cemetery, West of Molton, Iowa.
They had one daughter, Ada born 11-28-1904 and was ten years of age when her
mother Eva died.

Ray Smith was suppose to be a twin, but his twin died at birth.

Abner Smith died when the kids were young, leaving Nancy Jane, the mother to
raise them.

She has Uncle John's daughter: Louis Jordan living at 110 W
1st Street, Tama, Iowa. 52339-2602

She has Uncle Burt's Daughter, Lura Grossnickle living at
4280 N.E. 26th Street, Des Moines, Iowa.

515.752.4135. and Abner at 515.484.4235

My grandpa Smith married Nellie Lorraine Harl on July 14, 1920. The minister
that married them was Dick Givens in Molton. She was born in Memphis, MO. She
was born January 18, 1902. Her mothers name was Rosetta May Garmon and she
married James Isaac Harl, a farmer. They called him "Cap."

Elmer and Nellie Smith had four daughters, Beulah, Bernice, Beatrice (my
mother), Beverly, and a son James Elmer Smith Jr. who was like another dad to
me. All are living except Beulah and James (Smitty). Beulah was married to
Clifford Young.  he worked for a envelope company in Des Moines and was
killed on the job. They had three children, Jim and Joe and  a daughter Judy.
Beulah died of cancer.

Smitty (James E. Smith Jr.) his wife Alvina (Domingue) Smith and another
couple were killed in a freak storm that hit Lake Livingston, Texas in 1986,
the year after my dad died. I went back for the funeral and not long
afterwards had a heart attack at the ripe old age of 39. I blame it on my
work and the loss of my dad and uncle Smitty so close together caused it.

THE ONLY CORRECTIONS I SEE IS LOUIS JORDAN IS ACTUALLY LOIS (MY AUNT)
JAMES ELMER IS THE SAME PERSON AS "ELMER" IN RECORDS
I AM QUITE SURE THAT NANCY JANE RUTLEDGE WAS BURIED IN SHAUL CEMETARY,
OTTUMWA, WAPELLO CTY, IOWA.
MOLTON IS ACTUALLY SPELLED MOULTON (IOWA)
ALSO, THE 1920 IOWA CENSUS SHOWS NANCY JANE RUTLEDGE LIVING WITH HER SON,
JOHN WILLIAM SMITH AND HER DAUGHTER ABBY.  NANCYS AGE IS 62 AND WIDOWED.
ABBYS AGE IS 21 AND SINGLE. THIS WAS IN TAMA COUNTY.   CHERYL
