KELLY FAMILY LIBRARY

This is a replica of page one of the famous O'Kelly family book. Chief William Boy O'Kelly suggested in 1351 AD that the memories of the "filadh" be recorded for posterity.

The book was written by scribes who worked for Muircheartaigh O'Ceallaigh, Bishop of Clonfert, later Bishop of Tuam. The book dubbed a "bolg an tsolathair". The book was lavishly recorded in two columns the genealogy and history of the O'Kelly family.

In 1757 the book was stolen from the O'Kelly family. It next surfaced in 1814 in possession of William Betham. He subsequently sold it to the Duke of Buckingham. In 1883 the book was given to The Royal Irish Academy located in Dublin, Ireland.

In 1941 the book was microfilmed for a facsimile edition. In 1985 it was restored with original style materials. It was then weighted and housed in a habitat constructed of oak and glass. The book remains on display today in Dublin, Ireland.
