John Duncan, 1836-1837, immigrated to TX between 3/1/1836 and 10/1/1837, had 2nd class grant for land in Navarro Co. TX (listed on pg.1138, "Abstract of Titled and Patented Lands Compiled From the Records of the General Land Office of the State of Texas" published in Austin in 1860, and indexed by Paul Campbell; published in Vol.3#2 "Texas Heritage Quarterly," from Lucille Mehrkam 2/1984 and CA State Library, Sutro Branch, book F385 T48)
James N. Duncan, 1837-1840, had 3rd class land grant in Navarro Co., immigrated to TX between 10/1/1837 and 1/1/1840; also listed as 3rd class land grant in Ellis Co. (pg.1139, and 476, "Abstract of Titled and Patented Lands Compiled From the Records of the General Land Office of the State of Texas" published in Austin in 1860, and indexed by Paul Campbell; published in Vol.3#2 "Texas Heritage Quarterly," from Lucille Mehrkam 2/1984 and CA State Library, Sutro Branch, book F385 T48). Of James N. Duncan's 640 acre 3rd class certificate, 500 acres was patented in Ellis Co. TX by Wm. Hamilton on 21 Sept. 1854, and 140 acres in Navarro Co. on 18 July 1854 by L.D. Charles Duncan, 8 April 1839, received bounty warrant #9035 for 1280 acres for service from 12 Sept. 1836 to 12 Sept. 1837; 640 acres in Navarro Co. were patented to him 21 Oct. 1848 and 640 acres in McLennan Co. were patented to him on 25 Nov. 1847. ("Bounty and Donation Land Grants of Texas 1835-1888" by Thomas Lloyd Miller, 1967, for service between 1835 and 1846, from records of the TX General Land Office; from Lucille Mehrkam 1984). Charles Duncan's bounty warrant in Navarro Co. Pg.110 contains a sketch of Eldridge W. Caldwell, Navarro Co. TX; b. Washington Co. AR in 1851. His sister, Indiana, also came to TX; she is wife of B.K. Duncan of Corsicana.
Pg.293 contains a sketch of C.H. Hart, Dresden [Navarro Co.], TX; b. in SC in 1840; in Civil War; to TX 1869; m. (1) Emma Stokes, had one child, Irene. Emma died 1875; he m. (2) Mrs. Antoinette Turner, widow of James Turner, daughter of James Duncan. James Duncan was born in NC, to GA when young and died there, married in GA, was prominent man, was J.P.; in merchandising in early life, later engaged in farming.
