ANTHONY DUNKIN, S-1808, Invalid, TN (FHL film 970,867; from National Archives)
      Greene Co. TN, 25 Oct. 1832, Affidavit of Anthony Dunkin, aged 88, Entered Militia service; was citizen of Augusta Co. VA, volunteered under Capt. Cunningham and served 12 months at Ford Dinwiddie; does not recollect the year or month in which he entered service; discharge is lost; he again was drafted and served 3 months under Capt. Trigg, Col. Preston, marched from Montgomery Co. VA to NC and fought at Guilford Courthouse and Whitesils? Hill at Shallow Ford of Yadkin, he knew Majors Cloyd and Sawyers; he was born in Lancaster Co. PA 1743 or 4 but has no record of age; moved to Augusta Co. VA, then to Montgomery Co. VA, then after Rev. to Washington Co. TN, then to Greene Co. TN where he has lived for past 30 years. Testimony by Edwin Grubs and Azariah Doty.

BENJAMIN DUNCAN, Widow Mary, Rev. Pension Application W-7052 (FHL film 970,863)
      Born ca 1755 VA, died Jan. 1803 Anderson Co. TN. He was a pvt in Co. commanded by Capt. Cowan in NC Militia for 6 mo's. Married Dec. 1776 in Wilkes Co. NC to Mary Davis, sister of Thomas Davis, age ca 82 on 12 June 1841 of Anderson Co. TN, who testified in Benjamin's behalf. Mary Davis, born 1756 (85 yrs of age on 12 June 1841 in Anderson Co. TN. She died after June 1842. Pension certificate issued to Widow, 18 June 1842, Robertsville, Anderson Co. TN. After Benj. Duncan was discharged Nov. 1781, the couple continued to reside in Wilkes Co. NC. Date not given when both removed to Anderson Co. TN. Mary said they had 12 children "the oldest will be 65 yrs of age next January", statement made 13 Sept. 1841 - children not named. Witness Elizabeth Brown, age 66 on 12 April 1842, who knew Benjamin and Mary in Wilkes Co. NC in 1778.

DANIEL DUNIKIN, Rev. Pension Application S-38675 (18819) (FHL film 970,867)
      Applied 6 Sept. 1819, age 67, in Greene Co. TN; enlisted Jan. or Feb. 1776 in Amherst Co. VA under Capt. Cabell/Cahill, Col. Buckner, for 2 years; transferred under Col. M?. Donohoe of Augusta Co., Capt./Col. Joseph Crocket; transferred Col. Russel ..., Col. Ball, Capt. Wm. White; age 68 on 23 Oct. 1820, has wife living and has had 17 children, 8 now living with him and principally small.

ELIJAH DUNCAN, Rev. Pension Application S-3309 (FHL film 970,863)
      Born April 1757 in Fairfax Co. VA; died 14 Dec. 1840 Smith Co. TN. Lived in Caswell Co. NC in 1777. He was a pvt in the Continental Army commanded by Capt. Wilson of 10th Regt., under Co. Lytle, NC. Enlisted in Caswell Co. NC for 3 yrs served 18 mo's himself and the balance of time served by a substitute. Heirs, living in 1840: no widow, Elijah Duncan, Jane Kimbil, Nancy Ban, Catherine Oweing, Abby Davis, Richard Duncan. John Davis of Virginia had the family Bible giving age of Elijah Duncan. Elijah "lived in Caswell Co. NC when he enlisted in 1777, lived in Rutherford Co. NC for some time, thence to Smith Co. TN for about 26 yrs" statement 15 Oct. 1833. Witnesses Jacob Fite, Augustine Robinson, Rev. John J. Bennett, Thomas Terry. Jonathan Fuson adm. of estate.

John Duncan 17 July 1788 in Craigs Fort, Blount Co. near Maryville; John d. 29 April 1836; Family Record: John Duncan and Margaret Alexander m. 17 July 1788; Jennet b. 23 Feb. 1790, Mary b. 22 Nov. 1792, James b. 5 July 1795, Margaret b. 27 May 1798, Andrew b. 28 Oct. 1800, Joseph b. 17 May 1803, John b. 26 Oct. 1805, Robert b. 24 May 1808, Rankin b. 28 Nov. 1810. Statement by Margaret Wear, age 81, 6 Feb. 1844 of Blount Co. TN, present at wedding; statement by James Wear, age 71, 6 Feb. 1844, of Blount Co.       Born June 10, 1755, Pittsylvania Co. VA; d. May 3, 1844, Jackson Co. AL. Applied 1834 in Jackson Co. AL; enlisted early 1776 in Camden [Co.], SC, under Gen. Lincoln, Col. Thompson, Maj. Perdue, Capt. Hopkins, served 18 months; volunteered again under Gen. Morgan, Col. Shelby, Capt. Small in VA and served 6 months; entered again under Col. Preston and Capt. Chadwell for 3 months; entered again under Pickens, Col. Anderson, Capt. Key; age in father's family bible burned with house shortly after war before he married; lived in Camden Dist. SC about 10 years after end of war; moved to Hawkins Co. TN; then to Greene (now Adair) Co. KY; then to Jackson Co. AL. Married 1780-81 Ann, who d. Nov. 23, 1846. Witnesses Rev. Steven Donathan and Jesse McElyea of Jackson Co. AL. Listed in 1841 census of pensioners age 83, Jackson Co. AL residing with Robert Duncan. Affidavit of Peter Duncan and David Chadwell 20 Feb. 1835 in Jackson Co. AL re service. Deposition of brother Peter Duncan of Marshall Co. AL on 8 April 1843, age ca 77; home in Hawkins Co. TN burned 47-48 years before; Peter age 10-11 when John entered service, age ca 13 when discharged. Deposition of Greenbury Middleton 27/29 March 1843, age ca 1868, of Jackson Co. AL; knew John Duncan ca 40 years ago in Adair Co. KY. Deposition by Absalom Coffee on 28 March 1843, age ca 55, knew John more than 20 years, later 30 years; mentions John and aged wife. Witnesses Daniel M. Martin and Philip Henry Armbruster. Deposition by John Duncan on 30 Sept. 1843, age ca 88.
      Children: David, Robert, Peter. There were other children but all died before their parents. Aug. 17, 1854, Absolum Coffee testified his wife Jane was a granddau. of John Duncan. William Duncan of Jackson Co. AL filed power of attorney 9 June 1854. Deposition by Absalom Coffee, adm. of estate, that when Ann d. 23 Nov. 1846 she left survivors David, Robert and Peter her only legal heirs; since her death David and Robert are both dead.
      Statement by SC on 25 July 1857 of copy from Indent and account No. 84, Book R: payment 9 May 1785 to John Dunkin Senr. for 526 days duty in 1781-82; note by John Duncan 14 Sept. 1784 of Broad River asking for indent, wit.       Applied 14 Sept. 1832, age almost 81, in Washington Co. TN; volunteered summer 1774 in Wythe Co. VA under Capt. Joseph Crocket, Col. Andrew Lewis, Lt. Col. Charles Lewis, for 5 months; enlisted summer 1775 from Wythe Co. VA under Capt. Crocket, Col. Woodford, transferred to Col. James Morgan for 2 years; witnesses William P. Chester and Leroy Taylor of Washington Co. to reputation.

ROBERT DUNCAN, Revolutionary War Pension Application S-21167; S-29612 (FHL film 970,864; and from Lenox Baker 12/1980)
      Age 73 on 13 Oct. 1834; lived Randolph Co. NC, when entered the service; drafted 3 mos about 2 mos before battle of Guilford in 1782(?); guarded corn in Randolph Co. After discharge, enlisted 2 mos to count as 3 mos. Then moved into Washington Co. TN, on Wattauga River. In the Fall, draft of men against the Cherokee Indians. This was in the Fall of 1780(?). "He entered the service this time as a substitute for his cousin Charles Duncan who had been drafted for three months." Served not less than two months. Depositions of Elias Allread, Sr. of Hall Co. GA on 11 June 1834; and John Duncan of Hall Co. GA on 14 July 1834. Robert born Randolph Co. NC on 14 June 1762; record of age in family bible. Lived SC since 2 years after end of Revolution where he now lives; known to Earle Hunt and Jno. Young Esq. who live in the neighborhood and can testify as to his character for veracity and their belief in his service as a soldier of the revolution. Depositions by William King clergyman and Jno. Young of Greenville SC. Paid to 4 ---- 1842.

      Applied 19 Sept. 1832 in Monroe Co. TN, age 68 lacking 1-2 months, where he had lived a little over a year. Born 1765 Pittsylvania Co. VA; volunteered 1781 age 17, under Capt. Wm. Dix for 3 months; witness Rev. John Selvidge of Roane Co. TN; and Charles Price, age 60, of Monroe Co. TN who knew Thomas in Caswell Co. NC and knew Wm. Dix. After war, at age 21 to Caswell Co. NC, 1803 (30 years bef. 3 June 1833) to Anderson Co. TN, then about 22 years ago to Roane Co. TN, then to Monroe Co. TN ca 1832.
      Declaration of Rhoda Duncan on 5 May 1849, age 78, in Monroe Co. TN; m. 23 July 1786 to Thomas Duncan in Pittsylvania Co. VA; statement by Beryman Duncan 5 May 1849 in Monroe Co. TN; Thomas d. 28 Dec. 1845 in Monroe Co.; declaration of Rhoda 8 March 1850, m. by Rev. Roberts, record of birth of first and only child Berriman Duncan, b. 24 Oct. 1787, made by her father George Whitten in a hymn book, Berriman's wife's age below it (illeg.); statement by Rhoda 24 Aug. 1850; Rhoda d. 31 March 1852.
