      1-18/19: Chandler, Richard. 1833, Apr. 25. I, Richard Chandler of Blount Co. TN, feeble of body; to my wife Catherine Chandler my plantation where I now live during her life and at her death to return to the heirs hereafter specified, but if she should change her way of living by marying in that case it is to be taken to the heirs; I further wish my wife to have four of my negroes, that is Lue, Jule, Suser & Nethen for life and as much of my personal property as to render her a comfortable living; to my son Robert P. Chandler, David Chandler, John Chandler and Richard Chandler after the death of my wife, two negro boys Lue and Nethan to be equally divided between them; to my four daughters Margret Wear, Elisabeth Duncan, Polly Duncan, and Darky George, four negro girls Eve, Sinthy, Mary and Ida to be equally divided; to my two sons David Chandler and Richard Chandler my plantation where I now live to be equally divided between them, they to take care of their mother and provide for her; to my son John Chandler the sum equal to one half the plantation; to my three daughters Catharine Chandler, Sellina Jean Chandler, and Martha Anne Chandler my negro girl Eliza, and after the death of my wife, the two negro girls left to my wife, July and Sue. There is a sorrel mare and colt called my son David's, and she with colt, I wish him to have them but not as any divide with other property, but if he continues to keep, I wish his colts to go into the general stock. My exec. to sell property and pay off my debts and balance to apply to use of my family. My execs. if my negro man Lue left to my wife Catherine should prove troublesome, to sell him.       1-32: I, Joseph Duncan of Blount Co., of sound and perfect mind and memory, do make and publish this as my last will and testament in manner and form following. First I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Lydia Duncan the plantation on which I now reside and my black boy Bue during his life and [after] her death it is my will that he should be free provided he continues to be a good and obedient servant to her during her said time. It is also my will that my wife Lydia have all my stock of horses, cattle, sheep and hoggs, farming utensils, household and kitchen furniture together with the residue of my personal estate during her lifetime and at her decease it is my will that my executors hereinafter named shall expose to public sale the land aforesaid together with all such property? of every kind as may be on hand and divide the same equally between Sally Campbell, Elisabeth Scrugs, Robert Duncan, Barckley M. Duncan, Ann M. Lane and Polly Hughes. To Marvel Duncan I have given what I deem equal to the above when he first married in a tanyard and lott?.       1-32/33: 4 Oct. 1831, James Duncan Sen. of Blount Co. TN, feeble of body but of sound and disposing mind and memory and being aware of the uncertainty of life and the certainty of death, do hereby make my last will and testament, ... First, ... bequeath my soul to him who gave it and my body to the earth to be decently interred. Second, my worldly estate both real and personal I will and bequeath in the following manner, to wit, to my beloved wife Mary Duncan the use of the farm on which I now reside and also the use of so much of two entries of land as belongs to me in Blount Co. TN made by myself in conjunction with Eli Ritchie. I also will to her during her natural lifetime should she do not marry again, the use of ?? the undivided property for the support of herself and children, and in the event of her marrying again I will her a portion of the personal property equal in value to the dowry of any of my children hereinafter to be specified. I further will and bequest that my executor hereinafter to be named endeavor to pay my just debts by the products? of the farm. I will to my son Andrew Duncan the ?? of my personal property which I have already given him. I further will to each of my children following, to wit, William M. Duncan, James J? (S?) Duncan, James R. Duncan, Elizabeth N. Duncan, Samuel Duncan, Martha Ann Duncan, John Duncan and George W. Duncan, a horse, saddle and bridle, one bed and one cow, to be raised out of the products of the farm and I will to each as soon as practicable after his or her marrige or as soon as practicable after he or she may become of age, provided nevertheless that at the option of my wife Mary Duncan and for the support of herself and the remaining children there be always retained on the farm four horse beasts, three cows, twenty hogs and fifteen sheep, and I further will that after the death of my wife Mary Duncan, my real estate to be equally divided among my afore?? sons and three daughters or their heirs. But if the youngest child shall not be of age at my wife's death, then he or she shall be entitled to the interest or product of equal share annually to be appointed?? to his or her support and education by the executors hereinafter appointed. I further will that if at the death of my wife, there be not personal property enough to give all the children the aforesaid dowry, it or an equivalent in value to be estimated by the executors shall be made over?? to him or her out of the real estate or its products besides all equal division of the real estate with the others who may have received their dowry. I further will that if my wife Mary Duncan wishes to remove with her family to a place where she may think she will obtain better opportunities of a religious education for her children, the executors hereinafter appointed may sell all the land and purchase land in the place she chooses to the amount for which my real estate here may have sold. I further will that whatever personal property remains after furnishing the aforesaid dowry of each of the aforenamed children shall be at the absolute disposal of my wife Mary Duncan, provided she do not marry again.       1-38: 27 Dec. 1832, John Duncan, of advanced age and week and feeble body; beloved wife Margret during her life my dwelling house, furniture, negro girls Silence and Ann, ...; my daughter Jane a negro girl Rebecca, ...; son James who has been heretofore provided for the sum of $5; son Andrew a horse, saddle, 100 acres of land to be taken off the tract whereon I now live along the branch on the south crest of said tract; son Joseph horse,... 100 acres lying along the line of my tract next to Maryville...; son John ... 100 acres adjoining the tract above bequeathed to my son Andrew; son Robert have education to be paid for equally by my son Andrew Joseph and John, and horse, ...; son Rankin horse, ... and remaining part of my tract of land after deducting the 300 acres bequeathed to my sons Andrew Joseph and John including all the cleared land; son Rankin to live with his mother and control all in his power for her support; Jane to live with her mother and Rankin as long as she may remain single and Rankin to support her; at death of my wife Rankin to have mansion house; son in law William Alexander $1 (already given him due portion of my estate) and same to my son in law Samuel Rankin.       D-600: 14 Sept. 1857, will of George Duncan; to my daughter Elizabeth Hart and her heirs an equal portion of my estate with the heirs herein after named; to the heirs of my son Jeremiah Duncan, each of them have an equal share of the money coming from my estate to the said Jeremiah Duncan, deceased, with the exception of the two youngest children who is not to account for any interest on notes I hold on the said Jeremiah, deceased; to the heirs of James Duncan, deceased, an equal share of my estate coming to James Duncan, deceased; mention my son George, deceased, whom I have given a plantation previous to this time and consider it more than an equal share with the balance of my heirs; to my daughter Mary Spencer an equal share or portion of my estate; to my son Benjamin Duncan an equal share or portion of my estate with the ballance of my heirs; any note or notes I may hold on said heirs shall be counted against them the same as money and that intrust shall be counted anuly on said notes from the time they fall due, I mean that intrust shall be counted so as to compound annully. Appoint son Benjamin Duncan and son in law William A. Spencer executors. Witness F.B. Carter, Wm. Neill, John A. Strage. Probated first Monday of August, 1862.

      D-748: May 1864. Will of Alexander R. Duncan; Blount Co. TN, 11 Feb. 1864; to wife Fidelia Duncan use of dwelling house for life excepting one room for use of my brother Andrew Duncan so long as he may wish it; to her the house and kitchen furniture under her own control; she have a support for life from the farms, which I hereinafter will to my two sons John P. and Calvin A. Duncan; to her $100 to be used as she may choose; and to her my two negro girls Rebekah and Nancy for her control and disposal. To my older son John P. Duncan that portion of my farm on the Northeast side of Miller's Cove Road, beg. at west corner of Andrew Duncan's meadow, along the road to Dr. Samuel Pride's line; to my son John P. Duncan the 100 acres I purchased of my brother John A. Duncan which joins the farms of Andrew Duncan, William Leffentel?, Mrs. Martha Goddard & Mrs. Saffle. To my younger son Calvin A. Duncan my farm I now live on except what has been above willed to his brother John P. Duncan; to him all the buildings on the farm at the death of his mother except one room for the use of his sister Margaret Elizabeth Jane so long as she remains single and wishes it. The farming implements and livestock be equally divided between my two sons John P. and Calvin A. Duncan except what my wife or executors may deem unnecessary which may be sold and the proceeds divided between my two sons above named. To my daughter Margaret Elizabeth Jane Duncan and her heirs, $1000 loaned out at lawful interest till she becomes of age, and that neither the principal nor interest be used until she comes of age and then only the interest accruing after she becomes of age. If my cash notes are generally collected, the additional sum of $500 to my daughter above; the interest on this can be used if necessary for her benefit during her minority. If she remains unmarried, she to have a room in my dwelling house so long as she may wish, and that she be maintained and provided for by her brothers. The remainder equally divided between my two sons John P. and Calvin A. Duncan. That my three children above named have a good English education, that they be taught to read, write and cipher well, and if they wish to extend their education, it be done if possible; the means of education be derived from the farms I have bequeathed to my two sons. My brother Andrew Duncan live with my family so long as he may choose, and I enjoin upon my wife and sons to look after his wants and make him comfortable so long as he lives or may choose to abide with them. /s/ Alexander R.
