There were four counties in SC in Colonial times: Berkeley, Colleton, Craven and Granville. These "old" counties were discontinued in 1785. In 1769, there were seven judicial districts formed, and in 1795 two more. In 1798, the nine districts were divided into twenty-four, and several more were formed later. In 1868 many of the "Districts" were changed to counties. I have used the term "county" in place of "district".
