      E-279: 6 Jan. 1779, Mary Patterson of Conanagh Twp., Cumberland Co. PA, gentlewoman, to William Duncan of same, yeoman; warrant to James Patterson decd who was husband of afsd Mary Patterson, on 4 June 1762, and by said James Patterson surveyed Aug. 14, 1762, sold to John Wilkins of Donegal Twp, Lancaster Co. PA, for £50, and the said James Patterson decd. in his will appointed afsd Mary Patterson sole exec. and empowered her to make deeds, now in consideration of the £50 paid by John Wilkins and release of said John Wilkins and William Duncan, now Mary Patterson deeds to William Duncan the afsd tract of land on North side "Juniatta" River in Cumberland Co. PA upon D.O. Run adj. survey made to Catharine Wilkins wife of John Wilkins, and lands of Thomas Evans and James Armstrong, containing 93 acres, subject to the remainder of the purchase money, interest, (etc.).       E-281: 6 Jan. 1779, William Duncan of Fermanagh Twp., Cumberland Co. PA, farmer, to John Taylor of Tyrone Twp., Cumberland Co. PA, farmer; warrant to James Patterson decd. for land on North side Juniatta River on D.O. Run adj. lands of Thomas Evans & others, said Jas. Patterson did on 14 Aug. 1762 sell his right to John Wilkins then of Donnegal Twp., Lancaster Co. PA; by warrant dated 4 June 1762 surveyed 19 April 1767, containing 93 acres, which tract was made over to William Duncan the assignee of John Wilkins by Mary Patterson, widow and relict of James Patterson by deed of this date; and that there was a tract surveyed 17 Nov. 1767 for Catharine Wilkins wife of John Wilkins now of Carlisle, merchant, per order of survey 4362 dated at Philad. 7 Sept. 1767 which tract joins the first mentioned tract, containing 118 acres; and the afsd John Wilkins and wife Catharine granted the whole two tracts to William Duncan by deed 4 Aug. 1772; now William Duncan for £1,025 pounds paid by John Taylor, sell to said John Taylor the two tracts on D.O.       E-482: (blank day) August 1779, Daniel Duncan of Shippenburgh, Cumberland Co. PA, and wife "Deniah" to Simon Ross of same, in New Town Township, for £2,000 and diverse other good causes and considerations, now in his actual possession by virtue of bargain and sale, land in Newtown Twp. surveyed by order granted to said Daniel Duncan in partnership with Samuel Perry and conveyed by said Samuel Perry to said Daniel Duncan on 20 June 1777, surveyed 16 May 1767, dated Aug. 4, 1766 and laid out ... adj. land of William Plumsteed's heirs, containing 259 acres 18 perches. /s/ Daniel Duncan, Dinah Duncan.       G-283: 24 Aug. 1784, Samuel Postlethwait Esq. High Sheriff; that Lawrence Stambaugh assignee of Benjamin Coney assignee of Rudey Frey in Cumberland Co. Court of Common Pleas held at Carlisle July term 1783, recovered against William Campbell £500 and 72 shillings 10 pence damages; that on 26 July 1783 a Writ of Firie Facias was issued to John Beggs Esq., previous sheriff, to sell property, (MAD: property exposed to sale several times but no buyer); the property was sold on 24 July last past to William Duncan of Hopewell Twp., farmer, for £100.       G-324: 2 Sept. 1784, Samuel Davis of Millford Twp., Cumberland Co. PA, yeoman, and wife Mary to Robert Duncan of Town of Hanover, Heidelberg Twp., York Co. PA, merchant; there was surveyed to Joseph Scott late of Cumberland Co., improvement and tract of land called Posey Hill on Tuscarora Creek in Cumberland Co.       H-279: Indenture Tripartite. 22 June 1786, William West of Baltimore, MD, merchant, of first part; Benjamin Fuller and John West, both of Philadelphia, PA, merchants, of second part; and Thomas Duncan of Carlisle, PA, Esq., of third part; that by indenture 23 June 1784 from John Donaldson of Philadelphia, merchant, to said Benjamin Fuller and John West, lot on south side Main Street in Town of Carlisle, bounded on West by lot of John Smith and East by lot of Robert Miller, being the same lot where Francis West late of Cumberland Co. died seized and which he the said Francis West by a second codicil to his will dated 12 July 1783 devised inter alia to the said John Donaldson in trust for the sole use and benefit of his son the said William West; to said Benjamin Fuller and John West and the survivor of them to hold in trust nevertheless for the sole use of William West and heirs, and by said indenture recorded in Northumberland Co.       H-341: 21 Sept. 1786, William Alexander of Cumberland Co. PA, yeoman, did on 14 Jan. last past by deed conveyed to Daniel Duncan of Town of Shippensburg, merchant, land in Hopewell Twp. bounded by lands of Robert Donovan, Edward and Joseph Shippen, Alexander Peebles and others, containing 259 acres; now in order to secure title I have on 1 May last obtained from Robert Killough of State of SC (MAD: York Co. per previous deed), yeoman, and his wife Margaret, an instrument in writing bearing same date that they released to me their right to the plantation and tract of land. (MAD: does not really look like "farmer") for £665, plantation partly in West Pennsborough Twp. and partly in Newton Twp., both Cumberland Co. PA, adj. line of John Brown, Alexander Scroggs, John Carson, William Brown; 213 acres, being part of a grant 18 Jan. 1775 in patent book AA#15 pg.346, granted to said James Irvin and his rights with wife Isabell, reserving the waters of the big spring at or near his present mill seat on the same spring or other water works even though the dam will raise the height of the water. /s/ James Irvin, Isabella Irvin.       I-466: 2 May 1791, Hugh Patton of Borough of Carlisle, Cumberland Co. PA, and wife Mary to John Duncan of same, merchant; that John Holmes Esq. high sheriff of Cumberland Co. on 3 April 1767 granted to Francis West a house and lot in Borough of Carlisle, lot 45, on 4th Street, adj. West by lot of Revd. Doctor Davidson late of John Montgomery, on North by 20 foot alley, on East by lot of Willm. Miller decd, which was taken by said John Holmes and sold to said Francis as the property of Thomas Christy; the said Francis West and wife Dorothy deeded on 23 July 1767 to Stephen Foulks; Stephen Foulks and wife Catharine deeded 14 May 1776 to John Forbes, recorded Book G#1 pg.122. John Forbes and wife Jean by indenture 8 May 1789 to Hugh Patton, recorded Book I, pg.114?.       I-517: 5 March 1791, Elijah Rippey of Shippensburgh, Cumberland Co. PA, and wife Elizabeth to Matthew Duncan of Abbotstown, for £80, lot in town of Shippensburgh, 64 feet by 257 feet, #109, adj. South by Kings Street, East by lot 108 first granted James Piper, and North and West by lands formerly Edward Shippen, part of a larger tract granted Edward Shippen who on 28 Feb. 1773 conveyed to Samuel Rippey who deeded to Elijah Rippey. /s/ Elijah Rippey, Elizabeth Rippey.       K-70: 7 Jan. 1792, Thomas Buchanan, Esq., high sheriff of Cumberland Co. PA; that Isaac Milnor (lately) in the Common Pleas Court at January term 1790 recovered against James Williamsson a debt of £137 13 shillings 8 pence and 75 shillings 10 pence damages; that by order 22 Jan. 1791 the sheriff was to sell his goods, a house and lot in Borough of Carlisle was sold to Thomas Duncan Esq. for £45, the highest bidder.       K-256: 21 Sept. 1792, Jacob Keysor (indexed Keiser) of Town of Shippensburgh, Cumberland Co. PA, yeoman, and wife Catherine to Thomas Duncan of Borough of Carlisle, said county, Esq., for £60, house and lot in King Street in Town of Shippensburgh adj. lot of Joseph Parks and Michael M.O.? known as lot 157. /s/ Jacob Keiser, wissasinivi?       K-297: 14 Sept. 1792, Thomas Buchanan Esq., high sheriff of Cumberland Co. PA; that Robert Miller (lately) in the Court of Common Pleas at the January term 1783 recovered against John Pollock £200 debt and 166 shillings 6 pence damages; on 30 Jan. 1786 court ordered property seized and sold; the sheriff seized and sold house and lot in Carlisle on N. side Louther Street adj. the Stone Bridge and Letart Spring to John Duncan, merchant of Borough of Carlisle for £201, the highest and best bid.       K-570: 19 April 1793, John Hoover of Southampton Twp., Cumberland Co. PA, and wife Anna to Joseph Duncan of Town of Shippensburg, county afsd, merchant, for £1400, grist and merchant mill, plantation and land partly in Southampton Twp. in Franklin Co., adj. land of Thomas Cummins, land of Christian Hoover, land of Christian Gish, land of George Umstadt?; containing 62 acres 40 perches; including certain parts of two original tracts, viz, 34 acres and 91 perches part of a grant by warrant dated 15 Feb. 1737 (?) and 27 acres 119 perches being part of a survey to Robert Chambers per order of survey #714 dated 2 Aug. 1766, both which Robert Chambers and wife Mary on 29 April 1777 conveyed to Christian Gish who on 7 Feb. 1792 conveyed to said John Hoover; and also the privilege to Joseph Duncan of raising the water in the mioll dam provided it does not overflow or damage the spring adjacent to the dwelling house of said Christian Gish's land. /s/ John Hoover, Anna (X) Hoover.       L-432: 20 Feb. 1795, James Vaux and wife Susanna to John Wilkes Kittera and Benjamin Duncan; that Samuel Neave on 14 May 1765 conveyed to Jeremiah Warder late of City of Philadelphia, merchant, a tract in Fermanagh Twp. in Cumberland Co. PA adjoining Francis Ellin's claim, the Susquehanna River, Marcus Huling's claim, and vacant land, containing 527 acres, the same tract patented 8 May 1765; that Jeremiah Warder by will 8 Sept. 1780 devised to the above-named Susannah Vaux; that James Vaux and Susannah Vaux on 25 March 1789 conveyed to Richard Vaux in trust for Susanna; now James Vaux and wife Susanna for £1,500 paid by John Wilkes Kittera and Benjamin Duncan, convey to them the tract of 527 acres. /s/ James Vaux, Susanna Vaux. PA, and wife Margaret to Joseph Duncan of same, merchant soninlaw of the said Captain Rippey; that Edward Shippen late of Borough of Lancaster, Esq., decd, granted to James McCall lots in Town of Shippensburg, lots #117 and 118, being reckoned a lot and a half, on South side of King Street and West side of the Branch, adj. lot 116; that James McCall by will 30 Jan. 1783 devised to his son Ezra McCall who deeded on 17 July 1790 to William Rippey; that Edward Shippen and Joseph Shippen Esq. the sons and devisees of afsd Edward Shippen of Lancaster Co.       L-581: 9 March 1787, Thomas Duncan of Borough of Carlisle, Esq., and wife Martha, to John Duncan of same, merchant; that William West, Benjamin Fuller and John West by deed tripartite 22 June 1786 sold to Thomas Duncan above, a lot on South side Main Street in Borough of Carlisle adjoined on West by lot of John Smith and East by lot of Robert Miller (which Francis West died seized), deed to John Duncan one equal moiety and half part to be divided and struck off to said John Duncan on the East part adj.       L-640: This third day of third month called March in 1796, Nicholas Waln of City of Philadelphia, now beyond sea, by his attorney John Elliott Cresson of same, conveyancer, to Thomas Duncan of Town of Carlisle, Cumberland Co. PA; whereas patent 21 March 1754 recorded Patent Book A Vol.19 page 14 &c, to Samuel Neave, land in Hopewell Twp. containing 322 acres, who by will 17 May 1765 authorized the sale by his executors Luke Morris, Reese Meredith, Hugh Roberts and Jacob Herman; that Reese Meredith, Hugh Roberts and Jacob Herman died before Neave; Luke Morris deeded to Nicholas Waln; Nicholas Waln was going beyond the sea and made power of attorney to wife Sarah Waln and son William Waln and said John Elliott Cresson; now for £402 10 shillings deed to Thomas Duncan the above land. /s/ Nicholas Waln by his attorney Jno.       L-693: 30 June 1794, Release of Dower. Mary Duncan, widow and relict of William Duncan late of Cumberland Co. PA, decd, for 5 shillings, to David Duncan of Southampton Twp., son of the said William Duncan decd, quit claim my dower rights to land whereon said David Duncan now lives, in Southampton Twp., adjoining lands now or late of Stephen Duncan's heirs, John Byers, and John Duncan, containing above 200 acres, being the same tract which said William Duncan willed to his son David Duncan. /s/ Mary (O her mark) Duncan.       M-406: 1 April 1797, James Duncan and wife Agness of Southampton Twp., Cumberland Co. PA, to Michal Foglesonger of same; that a certain William Duncan, now deceased late of same, father to the said James Duncan, was in his lifetime seized of a certain quantity of land, part now situated in Southampton Twp., patented 10 Sept. 1789, [said William Duncan] made a will on 16 Oct. 1793, which gave to his son the above mentioned James Duncan 200 acres, which was to be taken out of the above patent which contains 229 acres and 87 perches, named Duncanshire formerly in Hopewell Twp.; now the afsd James Duncan and wife Agness for £1,800, deed to Michal Fogelsonger the lands in Southampton Twp. willed by William Duncan to his son James Duncan containing precisely 200 acres, surveyed at request of James Duncan 11 Feb. 1797, adj. Rippey the younger by bond for payment of £2,391 to repay a debt of £1,195 and 10 sh.; Samuel A.       N-124: 25 Jan. 1772, Ephrain Blaine Esq. high sheriff of Cumberland Co. PA; that George Beeber, lately, in Court of Common Pleas, at April term 1770 recovered against John Kline and George Kline of Cumberland Co. PA, debt of £40 and 54 shillings 6 pence costs, by Writ of Fierie Facias on 21 April issued to the sheriff to seize estate and land of said John Kline and George Kline and sell it, seized unimproved tract on Four Mile Run and about six miles from Ligenior's(?) adj. land of Richard Coffman, containing 300 acres; sold on 27 Sept. last past to Stephen Duncan of town of Carlisle, shopkeeper, for £30 and 5 sh., highest bidder; deed to Stephen Duncan for above land.       N-407: 20 Nov. 1799, John Burkholder of Southampton Twp., Cumberland Co. PA, yeoman, and wife Eve to John Duncan of Hopewell Twp., Cumberland Co. PA; whereas by warrant for survey to Robert Chambers dated 15 Feb. 1737, a survey was made of 249 acres 117 perches, and by another warrant of survey dated 2 Aug. 1766 #714, 71 acres was surveyed contiguous to the first; Robert Chambers and wife Mary on 29 April 1777 sold the two tracts to Christian Hish who on 19 April 1794 conveyed to John Burkholder, party hereto, a part of each tract, to wit, 108 achres and 62 perches, and of the second tract 45 acres and 103 perches, subject to a dam of water for use of a mill; John Burkholder has sold a part of the land lying on West part or Northwest to Michael Longenuker (Longemeker?) now owned by William Vance; NOW John Burkholder and wife Eve for $4,800 deed to John Duncan the plantation situate partly in Southampton Twp. Franklin Co. and partly in Southampton Twp. Cumberland Co., adj.
