Duncan is indebted to the Union Bank of TN by notes dated 22 July 1840 and due 12 months for $10,336.16, and also notes 22 July 1840 for $458.40 payable to Whaley & Duncan and by them, T.S. Alderson & James R?. Thomas? endorsed, and one 22 July 1840 for $211.40 ... (& many more, not copied here), to secure payment, deed to Kinsman Devine & William Wharton, parcels of land, one in town of Columbia, TN, Lots No.75 and 76 ..., being the house & lot heretofore occupied by said Lemuel H. Duncan, one other piece adj. south margin of town of Columbia ... containing 3 acres, also one other parcel (and many more parcels, not copied), warrant title, nevertheless in trust to secure payment ...
