      A-177/179: Hereinbefore an Execution Special Fire Facias was issued from the Clerk's Office of the Circuit Court of Scott Co. in the sum?? funded in a judgment of said court in favor of Carrol V. Randal against John R. Duncan entered in said court on 27 March 1841 which reads, ... Scott Co. MO, to Sheriff of Scott Co., whereas Carrol V. Randal on 27 March 1841 before the Circuit Court for Scott Co. on a petition to foreclose a mortgage hath recovered against John R. Duncan $151 debt and $12.85 damage with interest at 10%, together with his costs about his suit ... and said Carrel V. Randal to secure the payment of said judgment obtained an order and decree of sale on following real estate, a tract or parcel of land bounded on east by Mississippi River, on south by Andrew Ramsey, on the north by a fractional of land bought by the said defendant at Sheriff's sale, sold as school lands, it being the lands bought by said John R. Duncan of one Wright Allen Ramsey and the land on which said defendant resided at the time of the execution of said mortgage containing between 35 and 40 acres, and that on cause to be levied the said debt, damages, interest and costs ... and if said mortgage be not sufficient to satisfy the same you are hereby commanded to make the ?? of the goods and chattles and real estate of said John R.       A-438/441: That A.C. Sheppard late of Scott Co. MO departed this life at his residence in Mathew Prairie in Scott Co., the owner of a considerable real and personal estate in said county consisting of lands, slaves, other personal estate effects chose in action manner?? &c, all of which after the payment of the debts of the estate and expenses of admin. has descended and will be distributed to those heirs of said deceased Isaac Sheppard amongst? in home is one daughter named Margaret married to and the wife of John R. Duncan and one other daughter named Menicy? married to and the wife of John C. Thomas, ... that the said John R. Duncan and Margaret his wife for $280 paid by John Sheppard, one other of said heirs, has sold and transferred to the John Sheppard all the interest of said John R. Duncan and Margaret his wife may have to the said lands and personal estate, which the said Isaac Sheppard had before the time of his death. Further that the said John C. Thomas and Meniey his wife for $300 paid by said John Sheppard have sold to said John Sheppard all their interest have or may have to said lands and personal estate of Isaac Sheppard before the time of his death, Whereupon for $580 received from said John Sheppard and John R.       B-81/83: 6 Oct. 1836, Samuel Duncan Senr. and Catharine Duncan his wife of Scott Co. MO to Leroy Reesee of Cape Girardeau and Richard C. Woolfork of Scott Co. MO, for $600 paid, sell tract or parcel of land in Scott Co. MO, being partly in and adj. the west side of Mathews Prairie, viz, all the land which is contained within the lines and boundaries of the SW 1/4 Sec.6 Twp.26N and in Range 16E, containing 171-26/100 acres as per plat of survey, we are possessed of foregoing and described tract or parcel of land by virtue of an entry made by Samuel Duncan Senr. of N 1/2 of afsd 1/4 sec. in the land office at Jackson, MO, on 30 May 1835, and by virtue of a deed from John Bird for himself and Thompson Bird and by Ingabo Bird and Elizabeth Bird dated 14 Sept. 1836 conveying the headrights of Charles Findley or Finley, Abraham Bird claimant under said Finley which said deed covers and conveys the other half of said 1/4 sec, and we have good right to sell the same, and warrant title. /s/ Samuel Duncan, Catharine (X) Duncan.       B-83/84: on 18 March 1834, Thompson Bird and John Bird, partners and part owners of a tract of land known by name of Charles Findley's head right and Abraham Birds claimant under said Findley or Finley, containing 270-80/100 acres adj. the west side of a prairie now called Mathews Prairie in Scott Co. MO, whereon Saml. Duncan Sen. then lived, and the same whereon R.C. Woolfork now lives, did sell the same to Saml. Duncan Sr. afsd and take his promissory note for $379.50, the consideration money for the same, and said Thompson and John did on the day afsd execute a bond to said Samuel binding themselves & heirs to make the said Samuel a deed for the afsd tract of land when said Samuel should pay the said consideration money which said Samuel has this 14 Sept. 1836 done with interest thereon to the said John Bird. Now, we John Bird and Ingabo Bird his wife and Elizabeth Bird widow of said Thompson of Scott Co. MO hereby confirm the afsd contract and ack. the receipt of said sum of $379.50 to us paid to our satisfaction by said Samuel Duncan and, I, John Bird, acting herein for myself and likewise for said Thompson Bird decd as executor and also as surviving partner and we Elizabeth Bird the widow of sd. MO property in Twp.26, Range 18E Sec.16, being the fractional SE 1/4 of NW 1/4 of said section, containing 32 acres 24/100 of an acre more or less, also a part or parcel of lot of ground commencind at the lower line of said described land in the river and running thence by the division fence between said Wright A. Ramsey and Andrew Ramsey Junior until it strikes the legal survey line, then in a straight line to the back line of said portion that part is cut off by said line, commencing at said tract lying at the back and corver? part of the fractional part belonging to Andrew Ramsey Junior and that part included by said line at the above described trees belonging to John R.       B-459: That heretofore on 4 March 1842 two executions were issued from office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Scott Co. MO in favor of Henry G. Cummins and against Samuel Duncan commanding the sheriff of the real estate of said Samuel Duncan said executions, one in substance, Scott Co. MO, 10th Judicial Circuit, to the sheriff of Scott Co., that Henry G. Cummins before Abraham Hunter a J.P. for Richland Twp. in said county on 20 Nov. 1841 hath recovered against Samuel Duncan the sum of $46.20 and $1.38 damages for the detention of said debt with costs of suit, and an execution has been issued on said Judgment on 10 Jan. 1842 and delivered to the constable of said Twp. who returned the same, no property found, therefore returned, 3 March 1842, William Virgin Const. And whereas a transcript of said judgment was filed in the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court for county afsd on 4 March 1842, therefore you are commanded to cause to be levied the debt, damages & cost afsd on the goods and chattles and real estate of said Samuel Duncan and have the same before our Circuit Court at Benton in Scott Co. on 2nd Monday of July next to render to said Henry G.       Pg.969: Robert W. Duncan, a prosperous young citizen of Bertrand, Mississippi County, was born in Pike Co. MO, in 1856. He is a son of Robert W., Sr., and Elizabeth Duncan, natives of Tennessee and Kentucky, respectively. The former is the son of Thomas Duncan, a native of Scotland, who came to America when about eighteen years of age, and settled in Pennsylvania. He was married there to a German lady, and reared a family. Robert W., Sr., removed to Kentucky about 1846, where he resided until 1852, when he went with an oxteam to California. Remaining there about one year, he returned to Kentucky, and in 1854 or 1855 came to Missouri, and settled in Pike County, in which he now resides, aged seventy-five years. His wife died in 1870, having borne him eleven children: Mary Ann (deceased), Sarah (deceased), Margaret (deceased), Thomas (deceased), Susan, Lizzie B., Robert W., Emeline, John W., Benjamin and William (deceased). The subject of this sketch came to Southeast Missouri in 1884, and located in Bertrand. He is now engaged in blacksmithing, milling and farming. In 1878 he was united in marriage with Lovinia Tabor, who was born in St. Francois County, Mo., in 1856. She is the daughter of John and Sarah Tabor, natives of Tennessee and Kentucky respectively. They are both dead, and were the parents of ten children: John (who died in infancy), Margaret (deceased), Lizzie, Lovinia, Angeline, Ella, Fannie, John, William H., and Emma (deceased). Mr. and Mrs. Duncan are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church South. They have three children: Maude, John W. and Elsie. Mr. Duncan is a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 114, and the A.O.U.W.
