Pension Index Card File, alphabetical; of the Veterans Administrative Contact and Administration Services, Admin. Operations Services, 1861-1934; Duff to A-J Duncan (negative FHL film 540,888, some cards very faint); Joseph Duncan to Dunn (positive FHL film 540,889, some cards very dark)
      Cataloged under Civil War, 1861-1865, pensions, indexes; does not say if Confederate or Federal, but probably Federal. Negative film, some cards much too faint or dark to read, some cards blurred or faded, particularly the service unit and the dates of application. Most of the very faint or dark cards were in a slightly different format, with space for years enlisted and discharged which were sometimes filled in. Many of these were for service in later years, although one or two were for service ca 1866.
      Name of soldier, alias, name of dependent widow or minor, service (military unit or units), date of filing, class (invalid or widow or minor or other), Application #, Certificate #, state from which filed (sometimes blank), attorney (sometimes blank, MAD: did not usually copy), remarks. Sometimes the "Invalid" or "Widow" class had an "s" added to it before the application #; occasionally the area for the service information included a circled "S". The minor's name was frequently that of the guardian rather than the minor.
      The military unit was frequently the Company Letter, the Regiment Number, sometimes US Vet Vol Inf. (US Veteran Volunteer Infantry), L.A. (Light Artillery), H.A. (Heavy Artillery), US C Inf (US Colored? Infantry), Cav. (Cavalry), Mil. Guards, V.R.C. (?Volunteer Reserve Corps?), etc. Sometimes there were several service units given.
      Cards appear to be arranged by the last name, first name, middle initial if any, and state (including "US") of service.

      "KY DAR Records" by KY DAR (FHL film 869,303 item 1), Pg.186-7: "Lincoln Co. KY Pioneer Families" by Harry W. Mills; appeared in a column of "The Interior Journal". Duncan Family. HENRY DUNCAN, born in Virginia 1777, died 1852, came to Kentucky at the age of 17, with his widowed mother, it is said and lived in several Kentucky counties, finally removing to Cooper Co. MO, in 1836. He married in Lincoln Co. KY, Polly Combs, daughter of William (marriage bond dated April 5, 1805). Children: Matilda married Coleman Covington; Eliza, married Moses Proctor; Margaret, married Wallace Stone; James, married Anne Proctor; Miranda, married James Barnett; Jeptha; Charles; Jackson; George Washington, married ---- White. According to a descendant of Henry Duncan, he was a son of John and Sinea (Browning) Duncan; Henry Duncan in the American Revolution with the Virginia Troops.
      DAR Appliction of Mrs. Nancy Wilson in 1972, for lineage from Charles Duncan born Culpeper Co. VA 8 Oct. 1742, father of Henry Duncan. Her authorities include the obituary of Walter Wm. Duncan pub. in Bloomfield, Mo. "Vindicator" April 13, 1917; Family Bible; "Hist. of Cooper Co., Mo."; 1850 Census; Cooper Co., Mo. Atlas pub. 1897; Book "The Duncan's of Bourbon Co., Ky" by Julia Spencer Ardery - Pub. 1943 by W.S.Walsh Ptg. Co., Lexington, Ky. Came to Missouri in 1840/1. Gen. 4 & Gen. 5: Book "W'm. Duncan the Elder" by Nancy R. Roy Pub. 1959, Henry Pg.189 and Charles Pg.160; Hiram pg.201. Gives list of Charles' children and said he died intestate. Inventory of his estate returned and recorded into Culpepper Co. court 10/19/1798. (One reference gives date of his death 1789; Patriot's Index says 1802) Family Bible Records were copied in 1903. Tombstone copied for dates for Sarah Kavanaugh Duncan. A notation was found that a W.A. Miller states positively that she was a daughter of Philemon Kavanaugh; though the Browning family claimed her, they had no proof.
