      Pg.272-281?: Vol.II, from the sessions of the Ohio and Tennessee Conferences of 1812 to their sessions of 1813. Among the local preachers of Kentucky, ... George Strother. He was born in Culpepper county, Va., February 14, 1776. He was the second son of John and Jane Strother. In his eighteenth year, he was a volunteer to fight 'the Whisky Boys' of Pennsylvania. In his twentieth year, he married Miss Mary Duncan, daughter of James and Seeny Duncan, in his native county. In May, 1796, he and his father, with their families, started for Kentucky, then in its original and romantic wildness. They voyaged on a flat-boat from Red Stone Old Fort, on the Youghiogheny River, and landed at Limestone, (Maysville,) Ky., after a tedius and perilous journey. Their first home was near Paris, Bourbon county, Ky., where they remained for six months. George thence removed to what is now Trimble county, and settled near Corn Creek, where he resided until his decease, on the 29th of July, 1864. ... (much more extolling his virtues).       Pg.206. SETH W. LOGAN, born in Henry Co. Oct. 25, 1832, to Joseph A. and Charlotte (Duncan) Logan, the second of nine children, educated in Trimble Co., farmer. Married Dec. 23, 1858, Charlotte T. Ford, dau. of Schuyler and Sarah (Burton) Ford, she born in Madison Co. KY in 1839, one child: Jerry Duncan [Logan] born Feb. 11, 1863, died April 18, 1865. Methodist Episcopal Church South, Democrat.
      Pg.211. STEPHEN D. McINTIRE, born in Clark Co. KY, Sept. 8, 1824, to Hugh and Sarah (Gardner) McIntire; his father b. in VA, to KY at early date and settled in Clark Co. but in 1832 moved to Trimble Co. located near where subject now resides, farmed, died in 1875, and his widow in 1876. Our subject is fourth of 18 children; married on Nov. 7, 1844, to Miss Elizabeth R. Buchanan, dau. of William and Catherine (Trout) Buchanan; five children: Sarah C., William H., Daniel H., Mariam, and Martha M. Mrs. McIntire died in 1875, and Dec. 21, 1884, our subject married Mrs. Julia F. Morland, widow of Frank Morland and dau. of George and Sena (Duncan) Ray. Christian Church, I.O.O.F., Mason, Democrat.
      Pg.249-50. RICHARD H. STROTHER, life insurance agent at Milton, Trimble Co. KY, native of Carrollton, KY, born July 10, 1841, a son of Jeremiah and Sallie (Peniston) Strother, natives of Bourbon and Gallatin Cos. His grandfather, George Strother, was born in Culpeper Co. VA in 1776, came to KY, first located in Bourbon Co., but about 1803 moved to Gallatin Co. and settled near Milton, now in Trimble Co.; justice of peace, Methodist preacher. Jeremiah Strother was also a preacher and farmer, and a general surveyor, having surveyed all the lands in Gallatin and Trimble Cos; in State Legislature about 1827; died in 1878. Richard H. Strother reared on home farm near Milton; Sept. 1862 volunteered in Col. Giltner's 4th KY Cavalry, captured at Rheatown TN in Oct. 1863, prisoner at Camp Chase for two years. Returned to old homestead, and in 1880 was elected magistrate of the Milton Dist., served 6 years. Aug. 12, 1875, he married Miss Lucy, dau. of late William R. Duncan of Trimble Co. Three children: Kate, Sallie and Jennie. ...

      Pg.159. CHARLES STROTHER, lawyer, born Aug. 10, 1852, a son of French and Lucinda (Maddox) Strother, she a dau. of Michael Maddox of Shelby Co. KY who was born in Trimble Co. KY 1811 and married Celia Owsley and had nine children (not copied here) and died in 1870. George Strother, paternal grandfather of our subject, native of VA, farmer, Methodist minister, settled in Bourbon Co. KY in 1800, married Mary Duncan, also of VA, and had seven children; she died in 1865. Charles Strother was reared on a farm and educated in Trimble Co. KY; in 1872 read law with John Strother in Owenton, admitted to the bar in 1876; in 1878 elected police judge of Owen Co. ...

      Pg.321: John Gardner, b. 21 June 1805, in that part of Gallatin that is now Trimble Co. KY. He married 13 June 1830 to Mary C. Duncan, who was b. 27 March 1810 in the same county. They had one child in KY and moved to Sangamon Co. IL, arriving 17 April 1833. They had 9 children: Hiram E. (born KY), Sarah A., Nannie C., John P., Cranmer, James, Mary E., Lucy M., and William P. (MAD: Mary Curd Duncan, dau. of James Duncan & Lucy Pryor)

      Pg.304-5, Gentry Co., Athens Twp: JAMES W. and JOHN H. DUNCAN are of Scottish descent, their ancestors three generations back having emigrated from Scotland and located in Virginia, where William Duncan was born. Francis Duncan, the son of William, and the father of James W. and John H. Duncan, was born in Kentucky, and was married in Trumbull (sic) County, of that state, to Miss Patience Coleman, a native of Virginia, also of Scotch ancestry. The family of Francis Duncan consisted of three children, James W. and John H. being the only ones now living. They were born in Trumbull County, Kentucky, the former April 21, 1837, and John on October 28, 1840. They moved to Missouri with their parents in the year 1842, locating in Clay County.       JOHN H. DUNCAN. This well known business man of Coeur d'Alene [Kootenai Co.], where he operates a dray and express line, doing a good business, is one of the substantial residents of the city and is a man of the real bone and sinew of the community, never accepting public preferment, although frequently offered, but always striving for real advancement and upbuilding.
      John H. was born in Trimble County, Kentucky, on October 28, 1840, being the son of Francis and Patience (Coleman) Duncan, natives of Kentucky, who came to Missouri and settled in Gentry county where the father died in 1872 and the mother in 1878, both being buried there. Our subject came with them to Missouri and there received a good common school education and also attended Albany college for one year. He farmed and raised stock until 1863, then taught school for one year then continued farming until 1888, at which time he came to Whitman county. One year was spent there when he removed thence to Coeur d'Alene, where he has resided since that time. He soon opened a dray and express business, which he has prosecuted with vigor since. He has good stock and equipage and also a comfortable residence and two lots.
      In 1869, Mr. Duncan married Miss Cordelia, daughter of Isaac Wood, natives of Missouri, where the parents remained until their death. The father conducted a farm and was circuit judge from 1860, until his demise. To Mr. & Mrs. Duncan there have been born five (MAD: sic) children named as follows, Katie, wife of Ora Koontz in Bossburg, Washington; Frank C, who volunteered in Company B, First Idaho Infantry, which went to the Philippine war, where he did commendable service. Mary V., Ernest, fourteen in August, 1902, who has already earned two diplomas for literary work. Politically, Mr. Duncan is allied with the Democrats and is active in working in this realm. He is a member of the I. O. O. F., Coeur d'Alene Lodge No. 34, also of the K. of P., and of the Western Federation of Labor. Mrs. Duncan is a member of the Rebekahs, Naomi Lodge, and was a delegate to the grand lodge in Wardner. She is a member of the Presbyterian church.
