KY; land I bought of John Overstreet be sold and that money pay my debts; all to my wife Martha during her lifetime or widowhood for the purpose of raising and schooling our children, if she marry she shall have 1/3 of all my estate, the remaining other 2/3 equally divided among my children; my wife Martha and Alexander Duncan executors.       3-53: 28 July 1845, will of Moses Duncan of Oldham Co. KY; wife Cyntha Duncan 1/3 of all my land during her natural lifetime including the house on which I live, also negros, etc.; remaining portion to my children and grandchildren, to be divided between them each family of grandchildren to take as much as their father or mother would take if alive, the 1/3 portion of land heretofore to my wife during her lifetime to my children and grandchildren after the death of my wife in the same manner that I have bequeathed the remainder; have heretofore given to all my children one negro with the exception of my son Ludwell Duncan dec'd and my daughter Elizah (Elijah?) Burris decd, I now give and bequeath to the children of said Eliza (negro) and to the children of Ludwill Duncan decd $15 each as an equivalent thereto; remainder of estate sold and proceeds equally divided among my children; executor retain the negro and land and money bequeathed to the children of my daughter Eliza decd. until they come at the age of 21 years; that if the said children of Eliza Burris decd should both die without children that the property bequeathed to them shall revert to the remainder of my children and grandchildren upon their death; my executor retain the money devised to each child of Ludwill Duncan decd and land until they shall be 21 years of age; after the death of my wife the negros, stock etc. equally divided between my children and grandchildren in the same manner; appoint Bernard Duncan executor.       2-22: Will of Ludwell Duncan, 29 Aug. 1836?, of Oldham Co. KY; land bought from John Overstreet sold and money used to pay debts; if not enough money, then negro woman Caty be sold instead of the land, and the balance of debts paid from personal estate; remainder of estate after paying debts to go to wife Martha for life or widowhood for purpose of raising and schooling our children. If she marry, then she to have 1/3 estate, the remaining 2/3 divided among my children. Exec. wife Martha and Alexander Duncan. If Martha wastes estate from bad management or makes away with it from the benefit of the children, then exec. Alexander Duncan take over the estate for the benefit of the children as well as her.       Pg.176 (pg.785). JOHN T. DUNCAN., son of William W. and Amanda (Harrington) Duncan, born in Shelby Co. KY on April 3, 1851, but removed to Oldham Co. in his infancy. On Sept. 18, 1873, he married Miss Ida Smith, of Jefferson Co., had four children: Rosa, Willie, Alexander and Gail. Has farm of 280 acres in Floydsburg Precinct, Oldham Co., and a member of the Baptist Church at Pewee Valley. William Duncan, the father of John T., was born near Danville, Boyle Co. KY, Jan. 15, 1823, a son of John and Frances (Yager) Duncan. He settled in Oldham Co. about 30 years ago, where he owns 300 acres, and 150 acres in Shelby Co. where he had previously resided. In 1845 he married Miss Julia Cardwell of Jefferson Co., where he also resided for a time. Mrs. Julia Duncan died before the year expired, and Mr. Duncan in 1848 married Miss Amanda Harrington of Shelby Co; eight children: John, Silas, Henry, Alexander, Mary, Robert, James and Alice. Mr. Duncan is president of Floydsburg & Aikin Turnpike Co., a Democrat, and with his family is a Baptist.
      Pg.176 (pg.785). THOMAS DUNCAN, born March 6, 1851, eldest living child of Alexander and Melissa (Jones) Duncan, natives respectively of VA and Oldham Co. KY. Alexander Duncan was born in 1807, was a carpenter and afterward a farmer, died in Dec. 1882. Thomas Duncan educated partly in Oldham, his native county, and partly at Transylvania University; now owns and resides upon 450 acres in Oldham Co. In Jan. 1874 he was married (MAD: wife not given) and had four children: Bernice, Addie Camilla, Thomas N. and Susie. Member of the K. of H., stockholder in the Bank of Oldham.
      Pg.193. W.O. HEAD, born in Oldham Co. KY, Aug. 30, 1847; his father, James Head, also a native of Oldham Co., merchant and farmer and for many years a justice of the peace. Zoch Head, grandfather of W.O. Head, a Virginian, to Oldham Co. when quite young. Mrs. James Head's maiden name was Margaret McMakin, born in Nelson Co., her mother Kittie Owsley, came from VA. James Head's mother was Rachel Oglesby. W.O. Head educated at La Grange College, a farmer, Ballardsville Dist. In 1871, he married Miss Susan, dau. of Sandy and Mildred (Jones) Duncan, natives of Boyle and Oldham Co. respectively. The children born to this marriage are four: Alexander, Maggie, Minnie and Babe. Baptist Church, Democrat.
      Pg.212-3. WILLIAM A. McMAKIN, native of Nelson Co., born Oct. 8, 1816, son of Charles McMakin, native of VA who came to KY in early day with his parents and settled in Nelson Co., subsequently moved to Shelby and Oldham Cos. He died at Lexington [Scott Co.], IN. He married Elizabeth Duncan, a native of SC and dau. of William Duncan, a native of the same State. Four sons and three daus. were born to their union, and of this family, our subject is the eldest. His grandfather, William McMakin, native of VA, came to KY in 1802 and settled in Nelson Co., where he lived greater part of his life and died in Louisville in 1849. Our subject farmed, now in La Grange Precinct; he married in 1843 Enreth E. Ellis, native of Shelby Co. and dau. of Stephen Ellis; one son and one dau., Henry and Julia (the latter deceased). Mrs. McMakin died about 1847, member of Baptist Church. Mr. McMakin then married in 1852 to Sarah M. Oglesby, native of Oldham Co. and dau. of Ellis and Jane (Yager) Oglesby, children: Florence, Richard and Monchie (last two deceased). Democrat, he in Baptist Church, she in Methodist Episcopal Church.

Morrison, who was born in Danville, Ky., in 1802, and died in Carrollton, Ky., in 1872, while visiting his son, Dr. Goodlow Morrison, was ... His mother, Mildred (Duncan) Morrison, was born in Oldham Co. KY, in 1806, and married at the age of twenty-three years. She has had six children, three now living -- Dr. A.M., of Goshen, Ky., born in 1838; James A., born in 1841, and Lucy E., born in 1844, now the wife of Charles Harrison, a druggist of Davenport, Iowa. ...

Burke's "American Families with British Ancestry" pg.2665, has the lineage of Alexander Edward Duncan of Baltimore, MD, apparently from the manuscript of Gustav Anjou which has some erroneous information.
