BB-31: Bond of Daniel Field and Joseph Roberts, execs. of Benjamin Roberts, for £10,000 VA money, to Benja. Field, 5 April 1786; that Benj. Field was employed by the executors to locate 16,250 acres of land for the above estate, which was located and surveyed in Jefferson Co. on the waters of Green River. The bond is such that if Daniel Field and Joseph Roberts, execs. of the estate, will convey to Benjamin Field one half of the land equal in quality. Wit. John Field, Aquilla Field. Recorded 2 April 1800. I hereby assign to (blank) my right as a legatee to Benja. Roberts decd. in and to the land, 17,042-1/2 acres on Green River patented in the name of the said Roberts, 7 March 1800, /s/ John Field, Wit. John Cl?, George Ashby. The assignment from Reuben Field to Benjamin Field was produced and by oath of Stephen Cleaver and George Ashley was ordered recorded. VA, being a part of the estate of John Roberts Senior (looks like Junior) decd. which I by decent have become entitled to a part of said tract of land, and empower my agent to sell and adjust my right, title or claim to the land in any way that he thinks proper ... 15 June 1807. This Indenture made the Twenty Tenth(?) day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and five between James Adams and Margaret his wife of the County of Ohio and State of Kentucky of the one part and Charles Duncan of the County and State aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said James Adams and Margaret his Wife for and in Consideration of the sum of Ninety dollars to them in hand paid the Receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge hath granted bargained sold aliened and confirmed and by these presents do grant bargain sell alien and Confirm to the said Charles Duncan his heirs and assigns a certain tract or Parcel of Land containing 90 acres lying and being in the County of Ohio on the waters of beaver creek and bounded as follows to wit, Beginning at a large white oak and Small Sugar tree the Beginning corner of Benjamin Duncan's Survey thence running South 70 degrees East 200 poles to a dogwood and hickory thence South 20 degrees West 155 poles to a red oak & White oak on the bank of the creek, thence with the creek to the beginning to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land with all and Singular its appurtenances to the said Charles Duncan his heirs and assigns forever to his and their only proper use and behoof and the said James Adams and Margaret his wife for themselves and their heirs the said tract of Land with its appurtenances to the said Charles Duncan his heirs and assigns against the Claim of every person whatsoever claiming by from or under him are all othere person or persons whatsoever do and well warrant and forever defend. Pg.135-6 (pg.947), Ohio Co. DAVID DUNCAN, born March 6, 1842, Ayrshire, Scotland, immigrated at age 11 with his parents to Schuylkill Co. PA, until 1858, then to Muhlenburgh Co. KY, engaging in mining. In 1861 enlisted as a private in Co. A, 17th KY Infantry, served 3 years 4 months, wounded 3 times, promoted to Captain. His father David Duncan, native of Scotland, was a soldier in the 3rd PA Cavalry in the late war, and died about 1868. His father was also named David. Subject's mother, Jane (Malise) Duncan, was born in Glasgow, Scotland, about 1805, and is now living. Her marriage with subject's father was blessed by birth of Andrew, Robert M. (a soldier in an IL regiment), David (subject), Daniel M. (soldier in the 4th NY Heavy Artillery) and Jane (married to James Kelley, who served in a PA Regiment). In 1865 subject married Mary, dau. of John and Jane (Miller) McDugal, of Muhlenburgh Co., and to them have been born David J., Jane, Daniel M., William G., Annie, Neil, Robert and Andrew. Mr. Duncan is a member and superintendent of the coal mining company at Echols, Ohio Co. KY ... Presbyterian, Republican, member A.F. & A.M.
Pg.136 (Pg.948), Ohio Co. WILLIAM G. DUNCAN, superintendent of McHenry Mines, postmaster and express agent, Ohio Co., is the son of Andrew Duncan, a native of Glasgow, Scotland, who came to America in 1855 and first settled in Pottsville, [Schuylkill Co.] PA. He remained there a short time, then to Airdrie, Muhlenburgh Co. KY; then to Butler Co., Aberdeen. Twelve years ago he came to McHenry ... and was superintendent until his death, May 25, 1877. His widow is still living at McHenry. They had 8 children, of whom William G. Duncan is the eldest, and was born in Hollytown, Scotland, Sept. 4, 1851; Mary, wife of Oliver C. Roll; Jennie, wife of W.D. Hamilton; D.S. Duncan, druggist at McHenry Mines; Andrew J., late superintendent of Echols Mine, killed at age of 21, Oct. 23, 1882; Jennette, Ella and Maggie. Mr. Duncan was married May 10, 1878, to Mary H., youngest dau. of William Hamilton, also of Glasgow, Scotland. Mrs. Duncan was born in Airdrie, KY, Oct. 12, 1860. They have two children: Katie Belle, born May 13, 1879, and Andrew Wallace, born July 27, 1880. ...

MAXEY, born March 7, 1848, died Nov. 6, 1884, aged 36 years 7 months 29 days; died of liver disease; he joined the Logan Presbytery of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, at Cavena, Hart Co. KY, Oct. 1869. He went to Cumberland University in Feb. 1870. He was licensed to preach at Rockfield, Warren Co. KY, on 12 Aug. 1871, in his 24th year, and was ordained in 1872. He preached in Arkansas Co. AR during summer of 1872. ... He graduated in theology in Cumberland University in June, 1875, and began his active labors as a pastor in Christian Co. KY, ... until he left there, nearly three years ago, and removed to Columbia [Maury Co.], TN, where he labored until his death. He conversed freely before his death about his future prospects. On Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 4, the substance of the following conversation took place. I said to him: "Brother Maxey, I did not get to go to our last meeting of Presbytery. ..." ... Rev. T.J. Duncan (Methodist) said: "Brother Maxey, if you have anything to say to your wife, children, father, sister, or friends, you might say it now." ... "His wife said, "If it should come to the worst, where do you want to be laid to rest!" He replied, "On that grand old hillside where I used to play in childhood, if it suits you all." Brother Duncan said, "But Brother Maxey, would you not like it better, if it suited all around, to be buried here in the midst of your flock, where they could watch over your grave and do you honor?" ... The burial services were conducted by the Rev. J.S. Grider of Bowling Green, KY, ... assisted by the Rev. T.J. Duncan, former pastor here of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and co-laborer here with Brother Maxey ...
