      A-63: The will of William Addington was written 1 July 1839, witness attestations taken 11 Sep 1845, and recorded 16 Oct 1845. In the name of God amen. I William Addington of the County of Union and State of Georgia being afflicted of body and of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God - calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all mem once to die do make and ordain this my last will and testament. That is to say principally and first of all I give and recommend my soul unto the hand of Almity God that give it. And my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors. And as touching such worldly estate where with it has pleased god to bless me in this life. I give and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First I give and bequeath to Delila my dearly beloved wife one hundred dollars of lawful money to be raised out my estate together with all my house hold goods and movable effects and one cow and calf.
      Also I give to my well beloved daughter Jane Shetteworth(?) one dollar to be raised out of my estate.
      Also I give to my well beloved son John one dollar to be raised out of my estate.
      Also I give to my well beloved son William one dollar to be raised out of my estate.
      Also I give to my well beloved daughter Sarah Harrison one dollar to be raised out of my estate.
      Also I give to my well beloved daughter Marthy Hix one dollar to be raised out of my estate.

      MAD: The Pension records themselves are alphabetic within the county. The index is small 3x5 cards preprinted with "Name:" and "Service:" and "Res.:" and "Remarks"; also looked at any Dunan and Dunk.. names listed; cards include witnesses for other confederate soldiers.
      Information in FHL Catalog: Confederate soldiers received pensions for military service beginning in 1879; law changed 1891 to include widows; cards in this record for the witnesses of these soldiers & widows attesting to service of each soldier; alphabetical by name of pensioner, included on card are notations concerning county of residence, unit designation, and husband's name in the case of widow cards.

GA, Sept. 29, 1842, and resided there until he reached his majority, attending schools of the county and the academy in Clay Co. NC, where he was pursuing his studies when the war began. In 1865, having finished his accedemic course, came to Forsyth Co. GA, studied medicine with Dr. E.M. Bacon. ... Graduated from Atlanta Medical college after two years, in 1868; practiced for a time in western NC, then to Philadelphia (in) east TN for 13 years; 1883 to Atlanta, GA. ... Member of Grace Methodist Episcopal Church in Atlanta. Dr. Duncan married first in western NC on Oct. 1, 1868, to Mary M., dau. of Watson Curtis, had six children; he married again, Sept. 16, 1885, to Minnie E., dau. of Dr. A. Ellis, Milton Co., GA, had six children, three boys & three girls. Dr. Duncan's father was David Newton Duncan, native of Burke Co. NC, born in 1806, came to GA 30 years later, locating in Union Co. where he farmed until death in 1879; married Nancy Gillespie and had 5 children, 4 grew up, three now survive, William Rufus of Union Co. GA; Dr. John Wesley; Dr. Moses C. of Madisonville, TN. Dr. Duncan's grandfather was Charles Duncan, b. VA, who migrated to NC in early manhood and there married; in later years to Union Co.
