Affidavit to be Made by the Widow, No. 3056. It states: County of Fulton, In person came before me, the undersigned Ordinary in and for the County of Fulton, Mrs. Sarah Ann Duncan, who being sworn according to law, says under oath that she is the widow of William Riley Duncan, who was a soldier in the service of the Confederate States, and served as a member of Company "B", of the 18th Regiment of Georgia Volunteers; that he enlisted in said service on or about the first day of February 1862, and was in the Northern VA Army up to May 1864. That while in the Army, he was on the ___ day of May 1864 killed in the battle of Spottsylvania Court House, VA.
Deponent further swears that she was the wife of said deceased soldier during his term of service in the Army, and that she has never married since his death; that she became his wife on the 23rd day of November 1848, and that she has resided in Georgia continuously since the ___ day of ___ 1830; that Georgia is her home, and was such on the 23rd day of December, 1890, and since said date she has not lived in any other State or locality. Deponent, as the widow of said deceased soldier husband, applies for the pension provided by Act of the General Assembly of Georgia, approved December 23d, 1890, for the pension year ending February 15th, 1892, and herewith tenders the proof of her right to receive the allowance granted by said Act. Sworn to and subscribed before me, this, the 28th day of May 1891. W. L. Calhoun? Ordinary. Sarah Ann Duncan, her mark, Atlanta, Georgia.
Affidavit #1512 stated she was being allowed the pension for the year ending Feb. 15, 1893.
Affidavit # 541 stated she was being allowed the pension for the year ending Feb. 15, 1895.
Warrant # 2109 for a pension was issued for the year ending 1898.
The Warrant # 2655 stated some additional information. This particular one stated: ... That she has resided in said State continuously ever since Birth 1830. This warrant was for the year ending Feb. 15, 1899 and was sworn and signed before the ordinary on February 19, 1900.
(Bobbi Keenan comments: There were no further copies of records, did she die in the year 1900? I was not able to find William Riley Duncan's military service record. I also think it is possible that Sarah Ann was mistaken about the unit, etc. I have not been able to find a Co. B 18th Regiment in GA.)

John W. Duncan of City of Atlanta, Fulton Co. GA, 14 June 1865, ... I was conscripted and had no choice ... in charge of banking, received the public deposits in the City of Atlanta. (Roll 18, Georgia, Di-Gra names, FHL film 1,578,756)

Pension Index Card File, alphabetical; of the Veterans Administrative Contact and Administration Services, Admin. Operations Services, 1861-1934; Duff to A-J Duncan (negative FHL film 540,888, some cards very faint); Joseph Duncan to Dunn (positive FHL film 540,889, some cards very dark)
Cataloged under Civil War, 1861-1865, pensions, indexes; does not say if Confederate or Federal, but probably Federal. Negative film, some cards much too faint or dark to read, some cards blurred or faded, particularly the service unit and the dates of application. Most of the very faint or dark cards were in a slightly different format, with space for years enlisted and discharged which were sometimes filled in. Many of these were for service in later years, although one or two were for service ca 1866.
Name of soldier, alias, name of dependent widow or minor, service (military unit or units), date of filing, class (invalid or widow or minor or other), Application #, Certificate #, state from which filed (sometimes blank), attorney (sometimes blank, MAD: did not usually copy), remarks. Sometimes the "Invalid" or "Widow" class had an "s" added to it before the application #; occasionally the area for the service information included a circled "S". The minor's name was frequently that of the guardian rather than the minor.
The military unit was frequently the Company Letter, the Regiment Number, sometimes US Vet Vol Inf. (US Veteran Volunteer Infantry), L.A. (Light Artillery), H.A. (Heavy Artillery), US C Inf (US Colored? Infantry), Cav. (Cavalry), Mil. Guards, V.R.C. (?Volunteer Reserve Corps?), etc. Sometimes there were several service units given.
Cards appear to be arranged by the last name, first name, middle initial if any, and state (including "US") of service.
Duncan, Seth, widow Duncan, Mary A., minor Duncan, David F., Gdn.; C 15 KY Inf.; 1866 Feb. 3, Widow Appl. #120581, Cert. #81078; 1871 Jan. 21, Minor Appl. #193333, Cert. #158367. (MAD: 1860 Larue Co. KY; mustered in at Louisville, Jefferson Co. KY; d. 13 Aug. 1864 Atlanta, Fulton Co. GA)
