Know all by these presents that I Flower Swift of the State and County above named in consideration of the natural love and affection which I have and bear to my wife Sally Swift and for and toward the better support and maintenance of her after my decease and for divers good causes ... have given ... unto the said Sally Swift ... the tract of land on which I now live on Tugalo River in the State and County aforesaid, containing 130 acres, also a negro man named Joseph a negro woman named Milly with her future increase 1/2 however all my household furniture ... and every article of my stock ... together with all and every bond, note and account due to me ... and to hold the said tract of land, negroes household furniture stock ... unto the said Sally Swift her executors ... provided allways and these presents are upon this special trust and confidence and upon this express condition that the said Sally Swift ... shall and do permit and suffer me the said Flower Swift to use keep and enjoy ... the said tract of land, goods, ... during my natural life without paying or yielding anything for the same ... and from and after my decease she the said Sally Swift ... may lawfully have hold and enjoy the same ... and convert the same to her ... own property as she ... shall think fit, and whereas I the said Flower Swift have given unto my children namely William John and Tyre Swift and Vera Layrand (sic) Patty Duncan and Peter (sic) Barton to each a due portion of my estate and property heretofore, I now give and grant to each of my named children One dollar to be paid to each of them by my said wife Sally Swift at my decease.       Pg.255: 18 Oct. 1886, will of John Duncan; infirm in body; (1) to my wife Mary Duncan, one tract of land in Franklin Co. on Nails Creek, 220 acres adj. Kesler's bridge road, during her life in lieu of dower, then sold and equally divided between my children and decendants of children, according to the laws of descent and inheritance. I also give to my wife $150, one cow & calf, and one bedstead and beds and bedding. (2) My executors to collect all debts except three notes hereinafter mentioned which are to be considered as so much cash and disposed of as hereinafter provided; they to sell all my personal property except that devised to my wife; they to divide my land into lots according to their best discretion and sell the same to the highest bidder. (3) The residue after debts and expenses divided into six equal parts; one of the parts shall include two of the three notes before mentioned with interest, to wit, one note for $100 due one day after date at 10% interest, dated August 11, 1878, the other note for $98.18 due one day after date with interest at 10% dated August 11, 1878, both signed by N.J. Lempton? (Langston?), of this sixth part of my estate the sum of $300 be paid my grandson Eppy M. White, $300 to my granddau. Ella White, $300 to my grandson William Hampton? (Langston? etc.; same name as notes); to my granddau. Nancy Langston?, all being the children of my daughter Mary Ann Langston? by her present and former husband; remainder of that 1/6 part to be paid to my said daughter Mary Ann, wife of N.J. Langston?. (4) Another 1/6 to a trustee for benefit my daughter Salena Ayers, wife of Samuel B/D? Ayers, the interest to be paid her at the end of each year, and at her death to be divided between her three children James, John and William Ayers, appoint my son Jeptha H?. Duncan trustee. (5) Another 1/6, including the third note mentioned above, for $1549.60 due one day after date, interest from Nov. 1876 at 8%, dated Oct. 31, 1881, signed by my son J.H. Duncan, with interest on same, be turned over to my said son J.H. Duncan, and the remainder of the sixth part, if there be a remainder, be paid him in money; if the sixth part should be less than the note, the note should be considered one sixth share and turned over to him as such. (6) Another 1/6 to my daughter Letty? (Sally?) Ariail, wife of James L. Ariail. (7) Another 1/6 to my son William T. Duncan. (8) Another 1/6 be equally divided share and share alike between Dora Ariail and Ira Ariael children of my daughter Elizabeth Ariael wife of Daniel Arial. (9) Appoint two sons Jeptha H. Duncan and William T. Duncan executors. Wit. David M. McConnell, Asa W. McConnell, John T. Osborn. Prob. 5 Jan. 1891.
            Codicil, 19 Oct. 1886, of John Duncan of Franklin Co. GA to my will dated Oct. 18, 1886: that all money loaned to any of my daughters or their husbands for which I hold their notes be deducted from their distributive share, with 8% interest. And the above shall apply to each of my sons Jeptha H. and William T. Duncan the same as it does to my daughters. But does not apply to the notes already mentioned in my will against N.J. Langston in the 3rd item and J.H. Duncan in the 5th item. If any of my children mentioned in my will should die before I do and leave children, that they receive share and share alike the part due their deceased parent under my will. Ella White mentioned in the 3rd item of my will should have been Mrs. Ella Meyrs and Dana Ariael should have been mentioned as Mrs. Dana Coffee. Appoint my two sons Jeptha H. Duncan and William T. Duncan executors. Wit. E.H. Osborn, W.V. Galloway, John T. Osborn. Rec. 6 Jan. 1891.

      MAD: from "SC Baptists" by Leah Townsend, pg.231-236, The beginnings of the churches in the Oconee Co. section of what was formerly Pendleton District were in the main closely connected with Shoal Creek Church, a congregation of Franklin Co. GA not far across the Tugaloo from Chauga. The 1st entry in the earliest extant Shoal Creek Church book is dated January, 1796, ... The center of the congregation had so shifted in the meantime as to necessitate the removal of the constitution and church book to South Carolina and the adoption of the name Chauga Church in January, 1811. Chauga is located about halfway between Westminster and Chauga Creek. Footnote: Following is list of members of Shoal Creek (Chauga) Church, 1796-1804, spelled as in the church book: ... Ledey Dunken.
