A Family Tree with a Difference
A Different Perspective on the phrase -- "Creating a Family Tree"
A self-seeded ash tree has grown up at the head of this burial enclosure.
The expanding bowl of the tree has broken through and swallowed up the iron railings
The table stone has been pushed off the supporting pedestals and through the railings at the foot of the enclosure.
It is difficult to judge how old this tree might be.  My first visit to Kirkmabreck was in the early 1980s.  At that time this ash tree had already broken through the railings.   This amount of growth has probably taken more than fifty years.  It demonstrates to me how Nature, given time and left to herself, can easily thwart the works of man.
