A Note about Table
Stones |
Table stones are generally the oldest
memorials found in any graveyard. The photographs
shown here are typical of the local arrangements where these
stones have been moved from their original location and then
stacked one above the other. This seems to have been
done in the early 1900s by the Local Councils who took over
the maintenance of graveyards from the church authorities.
It is virtually impossible to access and transcribe
these memorial inscriptions without the use of heavy lifting equipment and
the experience to use it. |
