Jardine stones -- 1

In Memory of Thomas JARDINE in Millhouse who died 19 May 1797 aged 63. Also Agnes Rogerson his spouse who died 3rd June 1806 aged 53 years. And William Jardine their son who died Octr 3rd 1808 aged 32. And Thomas and Mary Jardine their grandchildren who died in infancy. Also Augness Graham spouse to John Jardine in Muirhouse, who died 4th December, 1826 aged 72 years. Also John Jardine, who died at Greenhill, 19th September, 1851 aged 90 years.

Inscribed on the Reverse:
Christina Jardine, who died at Greenburn, 12th February, 1842 aged 17 years. Also Christina Jardine, who died at Greenburn 2nd March, 1847 aged 2 years. Also Robert Jardine, who died at Brown Rigs, 1st March, 1861 aged 71 years. Margaret Richardson, wife of John Jardine, who died at Parkfoot, Lochmaben, 7th February 1878 aged 84 years. Agnes daughter of the above John Jardine, who died at Whitefield Farm, Cumberland 14th December, 1912 aged 91 years.

The carved image on this side is rather worn, it shows a female figure. Below are two mortality symbols, crossed bones and a death head.

Here lies Andrew Jardine in Peelhouses who departed this life the 21 day of Sept, 1771, aged 83 years. Also Jean Atchison his spouse who died January 24th, 1736 aged 36 years.

In Memory of William Jardine, late tenant in Upper Cleugh, died 20th September, 1837 aged 63 years. Also Elizabeth Dinwoodie, his wife, died there 21st March, 1858 aged 80 years. Also William, their son, died at Kinnelbridge, 6th April, 1874, aged 54 years. Also John, their son, died at Gawsworth, Cheshire, 7th July, 1875 aged 53 years.

In Memory of Margaret Lockerbie, spouse to William Jardine in Milnbank, died 16th January, 1818 aged 27 years. Also the said William Jardine, late tenant of Milnbank, died 14th April 1852 aged 86 years. James Jardine, son of the above who died at Corsua 15th January, 1877 aged 61 years. Also Jane Johnstone wife of James Jardine who died at Corsua 8th September, 1881 aged 68 years. Also William son of the above James Jardine late farmer in Millbank who died 24 November, 1901 aged 61 years. Also Christina Buchanan MacNaught, wife of the above William Jardine, who died at Glasgow, 22nd October, 1922, aged 78 years.

William Jardine, surgeon, H.E.I.C.S. died at Socotra 16th July, 1835 aged 24 years. Francis Jardine, died at Chipknowe, 29th April, 1839 aged 34 years. David Jardine of Balgray died in London 5th June, 1853 aged 34 years. Robert Jardine of Balgray died at Balgray, 15th February, 1873 aged 51 years.

Also the above John Jardine who died at Townfoot, Lockerbie, 27^th April, 1882 aged 68 years. Also Robert, his son, who died at Barrow-in-Furness, 28^th June 1894 aged 26 years. Also Mary Barbara Hill wife of the above John Jardine, who died at New Abbey 2^nd June, 1899 aged 66 years. Also Elizabeth Affleck Jardine, died at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow, 6^th March, 1907 aged 30 years. Also Helen Ann, daughter of the above John Jardine, born 4^th February, 1875 died 16^th March 1947.
